Hi. Thanks for the videos. Really like them. I like to plan my trips very carefully. I would like to have the Guide. I'm planning my trip for early January and I'm already late with the planning. Would love to have a comparison between Pacific and Caribean beaches. Thanks again.
That's wonderful! So smart of you to plan carefully. We hope to have the guide complete in January, so it likely won't be ready in time for your trip. So sorry. Hopefully though, this is helpful some helpful info-- here's the rough outline for details we put together for a video we want to do comparing Pacific and Caribbean beaches: PACIFIC BEACHES Key Features: Landscape: Dramatic cliffs, golden and dark sandy beaches, and rocky coastlines. Water Conditions: Waves are stronger, making it a haven for surfers. Some calmer spots for swimming, especially in protected bays. Weather: Dry season (December to April) is sunny and warm. Rainy season (May to November) can still have sunny mornings. Accessibility: Easier to reach from major airports like Liberia (LIR) or San José (SJO). Top Destinations: Tamarindo: Great for surfing, nightlife, and beginners. Playa Conchal: White-shell beach, ideal for snorkeling and luxury. Manuel Antonio: Beautiful national park with wildlife and family-friendly beaches. Santa Teresa: Boho vibe with excellent surfing. Atmosphere: Trendier with a mix of luxury resorts and laid-back surf towns. Popular among families, couples, and surfers. Pros: Variety of beaches for surfing, swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing. More developed tourism infrastructure (hotels, restaurants, and activities). Cons: Can get crowded in popular areas like Tamarindo or Manuel Antonio. Prices may be higher in more touristy spots. CARRIBEAN BEACHES Key Features: Landscape: Lush tropical forests, palm-fringed shores, and white or black sandy beaches. Water Conditions: Calmer waters, especially during September and October (Caribbean’s dry season), making it ideal for snorkeling and diving. Weather: Wetter on average, but September and October are drier. It rains intermittently throughout the year. Accessibility: Requires more travel time from San José (about 4-5 hours to Puerto Viejo). Top Destinations: Puerto Viejo: Vibrant Afro-Caribbean culture, nightlife, and diverse beaches. Cahuita: Black-sand beaches and coral reefs in Cahuita National Park. Punta Uva: Secluded, tranquil beach with calm waters. Tortuguero: Known for its wildlife and turtle nesting season. Atmosphere: More relaxed and bohemian, with a strong Afro-Caribbean influence in food, music, and culture. Less crowded and more authentic vibe. Pros: Fewer tourists, offering a quieter experience. Incredible biodiversity and unique wildlife experiences. Cons: Fewer high-end resorts and modern tourist amenities. Accessibility can be a challenge, requiring longer travel times. We hope you have a great trip! Come back and let us know how it was, what you learned, and anything you think other people might benefit from along the way.
