I have been playing this tune for nigh on 50 years. It is still the simplest of his tunes, and the one I have the most difficulty playing. He remains, to me, the most gifted guitar player I have seen perform, and I saw them all beginning in the mid 60's..Joe Pass is right up there.

Just saw him tonight - he's still got it! Great entertainer and still has all those amazing guitar licks.

I've seen him twice. He's unbelievable, and I could just sit and listen to him tell stories. Great showman.

Sooo disappointed I never saw him live. Not only is this my favorite Kottke tune, It is hands down one of the prettiest melodies I've ever heard.

I've seen him twice. STILL amazing. And I could sit and listen to him just tell stories all night. His concerts have a very campfire-ish feel to them.

Always loved hearing Leo Kottke tell stories, nearly as much as his singing and playing, so I LOVE this clip!

I saw Leo play this piece at My Father's Place in Long Island in '71. His compositions and performances leave me with wonder and joy for the past 5 and a half decades. Bravo.

Saw him at MFP later. Maybe 1979-1981? Stayed for two sets. I believe MFP has reopened but they’ll never get the acts they got before.

First time I've heard Leo having trouble playing one of his own songs. Just shows you how seldom he played this. Which is a shame because everybody loves it.

I saw Leo last Sunday night at UCSD he was a very tired man, he didn't speak much his usual which was disconcerting because Leos anecdotes of life are as much a draw for me as his guitar skills. Loved seeing him but I left feeling a little sad. I've seen Leo four times since my first in 1970 Eugene Oregon and I've watched his style change and energy fade but he is still a special performer. Thanks once again Leo.

Yeah; it's coming for all of us if it isn't already there. The Fisherman happens to be the only Kottke piece I was ever able to master sufficient to actually play in front of others, a simple piece in C, standard tuning. My guess is, he's brought it back out because with the arthritis and all, he finds much of his old repertoire beyond his present abilities. Sad; I love the guy, and his music has given me so much pleasure over the years.

I saw him just a couple of months ago. His playing was in good shape, and so was his banter. He even beautifully recited and extended verse of poetry and then proceeded to wax poetic about how chickens are the bane of his existence.

Me too. This is the only LK song I can play in front of others with confidence. Learned to play it in 1978 when I was 15 and didn't master it until several years later. Love this song for many reasons. It is sad to see him attempt to play it now, though. Very different than the orig recorded version.

My old boyfriend in the 70s could play this. Leo and he were connected. Leo recorded a song of his that was supposedly about me. However it was called “Rebecca “ so you be the judge. He was a phenomenal musician. Richard Crandell. He got essential tremor. Had to give up guitar but he just switched to piano and the imbira. Died too soon. Should have married him

Every other version sounds too fast, hero, like you're trying to impress us. Thank you for finally slowing down so we can hear the music!
