    Great video as always. I was looking at your channel and thought about a video on modifying a factory th400 valve body and a how it works video on the entire valve body, just an idea. Thanks again

    The problem is not all vehicles have the tunnel clearance to use that

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put these in my 72 Nova LS swap, installed the transmission with the shields stalled with only minor tunnel interference.
      I have used them on a 70 Chevelle also.

    I fear I'm going to have trouble fitting the shields in my 71 Corvette

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be surprised. CSR makes a carbon shield that is like a second skin over the case but are expensive.
      Finally a good SFI case solves everything.

    Hey Shawn, I bored a hole in my TCI th400 trans shield to access the case connector for the internal transbrake solenoid. I wish I had bent the connector over like you did. Probably voided my SFI cert, but not too worried about that. The tracks around here aren't really sticklers. More for my safety anyway.

    Shawn what size tap do you use to tap the bellhousing hole for the dipstick when you are putting it behind a ls engine.

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use either a 3/8-16 or M10-1.5. I prefer the metric so it matches the rest of the bellhousing bolts.
      The hole in the transmission taps nicely without drilling either way.

    • @MHolt3573
      @MHolt3573 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mountainsgarage do you have to helicoil it. I tried that with the one we are messing with and a 10x1.50 tap was to small but a 7/16x14 tap went right in it.

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MHolt3573 Yes a helicoil in either case.

    hey Shawn, what clutches do you us in a trans brake 400, do you sell them. i was going to use a trans shield in my car but i didn't think it would fit. a friend has a carbon fiber shield that is molded from a case in a 67 camaro and it was a fight to get it in his car. i ran a trans blanket and it was tight against the floor in some spots. but like everything else it burnt up in the fire, its a pile of burnt rubble stuck to my driveway.
    thank you for any information.

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using Borg Warner lately, Raybestos, Alto, I like them all. Properly assembled the experts say any clutch works fine.
      Thanks for watching.

    I wont use the shield il cut off my bell and install a ultra bell or just buy a Reid case

    • @mountainsgarage
      @mountainsgarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The aftermarket case covers both areas, as well as being stronger in general. The Ultra Bell takes care of the flexplate area but still need to cover the case. I used both of the shields in the video on my 72 Nova with an LS. Minor mods and I installed the transmission with the shields installed. It’s a relatively low buck deal, so for $200 I am covered.

    Here's your problem with your video's you make nice video's but not great video's why! Its this simple, you don't stay focus on what your explaining! You bounce all over and don't stay focus on detail! Here's an example! Lets say you doing a th400 and your working on a clutch hub and installing and putting in all new steels and clutches! You explain how its done, But you don't show in detail how to take it apart or put back together! You bounce from scene to scene! You seem like a man who knows it's history well! But lack the know how on how to present your video's to TH-cam! I hope this help!

    • @mountainsgarage

      Thanks for the input, I always try to learn from feedback.
      I don’t enjoy watching fumble videos where the camera is rolling endlessly, I have been experimenting with some live action but want to keep it brief. I hate time lapse videos combined with bad music, nothing to be learned there.
      So I have been working with short segments that should generally be related, similar to talking someone through the steps on the phone, which I do a lot.
      It’s hard to appeal to all skill levels, and I am only just over a year in.
      Appreciate you!
