They do not write music like this anymore. And rare is the contemporary performer with the vocal gifts and genius of Dionne. No oversinging, no trilling the notes to try and impress the listener. Perfect inflection, intonation, letting the song shine. What a writing-singing duo they were.
Nobody wrote like Burt, his sound was unique, unlike any other, that just defined a new dimension in music of the late 60’s and wrote many anthem songs for that decade. His orchestrations, use of horns, all say Burt, Burt, Burt…….
Absolutely, couldn’t agree more. Nothing drives me crazier than oversinging & trilling as you say. It’s like a lead guitarist that doesn’t know when to stop. Less is more!
Do you know the way to San Jose is so clean. Like an equation, chess move, triple play that you just see. Burt Bacharach was just that good. Dionne Warwick is perfect for his gifted songs.
I was 7 or 8 years old when I first heard Dionne and Burt and fell in love. No one will ever match this collaboration, her delivery, his melodies like none other, he has such a unique sound. Listening to them I feel like it’s a 60’s summer day and I’m laying in fresh cut grass with a transistor radio in my front pocket absorbing the sounds of the day, 5th Dimension, Supremes, later Karen Carpenter and I’m in heaven. Best years for music!
@@joantierney8532 I know, when I hear it, I’m transported to that special time of your childhood, a blank canvas, impressionable, soaking up sounds and visuals , when you first develop your music personality based on what was on the radio, that thing that you listened to constantly waiting to hear your favorite song again, no immediate gratification like today to click and stream, we really had to commit. I’ll never forget my mother raving about a group she saw on The Tonight Show the night before, way past my bedtime, The Fifth Dimension singing Up, Up, and Away. Needless to say we were playing that 45 by the end of the day…..over and over…..and still have that original record. They had their own unique, unheard before, fresh new sound, also incredible with Bacharach songs. Sergio Mendes and the Brazil 66 and Fool on the Hill, Herb Alpert singing This Guy’s in Love With You, and let’s not forget every Lennon-McCartney penned songs, plus the super sounds of the super Diana Ross and the Supremes, who popped up several times a year on Ed Sullivan, allowed to stay up and see them all glamorous with big hair. What an amazing time to begin a musical education.
@@gsolomonla Yes, it truly was!!! My Mom loved The Fifth Dimension and my Dad loved Herb Alpert and The T.B.! SO thankful that my parents turned me onto great music!!!
These two were masters of music., we will never hear beautiful music like this again still listening May, 2020. Wow, I just notice she keeps her timing on the mic.
I've had the great pleasure of seeing Burt and Dionne perform together live 4 times. Wow, what a duo! What great music! I saw Burt perform here in LA just last year (w/o Dionne). He's still got it, folks. A true genius! And Dionne...a true class act!
It was only in 1968 when I first heard of Dionne's beautiful voice and rare vocal style over an AM radio station in the Philippines. Little did I know that my favorite song Don't Make Me Over was already 6 years old then, having recorded in 1962. Now 42 years later I am still her fan and love listening to my collection of her 45 rpm singles mostly on Scepter label played on a vintage phonograph, which fortunately is still working. It feels very nostalgic. Thank you for sharing this video.
Bacharach and David's music, which I heard as a pre-teen, hugely influenced me becoming a musician, and as a drummer, it is/was the greatest lesson in subtlety and dynamics. And Dionne -- she has a voice that makes me cry. So poignant and strong at the same time. What a beautiful woman.
In the 60s when my aunt was finishing her doctoral course in entomology in syracuse university she saw this frail and skinny girl her hair long going down her sides. Then she started singing the song brought her goosepimples because how could a little girl could belt out such wonderful and marvelous voice. The skinny little girl was dionne. And they say the rest is history
really nice performance -- lots of subtleties here, I especially dig the way Dionne looks at Burt during Say a Little Prayer, plus the joy that Burt is exhibiting throughout while masterfully conducting, playing piano, enjoying the moment and, well, making MAGIC that speaks through and to our hearts!
Dionne is one of the greatest singers, but, when Burt told her that he composed most of his music for her, she got the glory. Burt is the best. What tribute!
That's why everyone loves Burt Bacharach. He really cares about the musicians he works with. In all his years of making music, he's never let his brilliance for composing music overwhelm his ego.
Simply beautiful, the music they did together, along with the late Hal David! (May he rest in perfect peace!) Timeless,Classic, Breathtaking,Writing, Composing,Vocal Magic!!Love you,Burt and Dionne, and May God Bless You Both!Thank you for sharing and blessing us,with Your Amazing......Talents!!!!!!!!
Man what a musician and vocalist is Dionne Warwick is some of these keys have her seemingly singing constantly upward toward the top of her range yet she effortlessly and flawlessly adapts melody lines to enable her to sing around slightly high notes Amazing
No one writes songs like this anymore, nor does anyone perform with this level of vocal genius and stage grace -- unlike nearly every female vocalist today, Dionne never over - sings. What an amazing duo.
MY ERA GROWING UP. THEN AS AN ADULT IN THE HOLLYWOOD MPI - INCLUDING THE MUSIC SIDE AS WELL - I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH BOTH "BURT" & "DIONE" TOGETHER & SEPARATELY! (RECORDS & MOVIE SCORING)THANK YOU LORD !
This was incredible story, knowing her in Syracuse, just the most lovely of girls, but she had extreme buck teeth & someone wondrous came to her rescue, goodness thank you, the girl just blossomed....dionne your perfection.......
Sometimes, certain musical artists get together and something wondrous happens that cannot be easily explained, something that borders on the magical, something that touches, affects and at times, defines the times, if not the world itself. Lennon & McCartney, Jagger & Richards, Rogers & Hart/Hammerstein come to mind as prime examples. And without a doubt, I feel that the Bacharach & Warwick collaboration falls in that same category. They were a gift to each other, bringing out the very best in each other, and bringing to us a treasured body of work that can only be described as a gift to us. Epochal yet timeless; brawny and muscular, yet sweet and tender and vulnerable; down to earth yet ethereal. It was a successful synthesis, an amalgamation, that pulled apart and pushed away its components while simultaneously drawing them into each other's inexorable orbit. In a word: Magic.
Bacharach-David, Lennon-McCartney, John-Taupin, Holland-Dozier-Holland, King-Goffin, to name a few, are/were the greatest songwriters/composers of all time. Name some more please. Thanks.
I think you hit them all, I love that you have Holland-Dozier-Holland on the list, they don’t get the tribute that they deserve, and just like Burt, they created such a unique sound that was completely their own and just as prolific, so much that Motown may have struggled to find the same success if there was no H-D-H. I might add Peter Allen who wrote a multitude of beautiful songs that still stand the test of time, the Gershwin brothers amazing body of work, Cole Porter, and this may sound corny to some Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II, whose massive body of work was the standard of excellence on Broadway spanning over 3 decades, again, with their own unique sound, captivating the world with songs that had substance, moved the story along, and addressed timeless issues, love lost, wife abusers, bullying, and racism , so serious yet people would leave their shows with a dozen beautiful songs to hum on the way home. Why Burt hasn’t been awarded the Kennedy Center Honor yet is beyond comprehension!
I consider this specific performance to be the best her voice ever sounded. Deep? Yes, but too deep? I think not! Easily, the richest and fullest tone she ever had. I think Dionne is a classic example of the artist whose "mature" voice actually improved, and ended up with more tone than their "young voice." Tony Bennett is definitely another such artist. I wasn't a huge fan of his when he was in his 20's and 30's; thought his voice a bit too thin and perhaps even shrill at that time, but now? Holy cow. "The way You Look Tonight "- recorded performance - just...wow. I have an mp3 of this exact Burt and Dionne medly and listening to it with earbuds or headset to really hear the entire range of tones, will give you chills.
You know, I'm sad that I'm the only Burt Bacharach fan that I know of. But I'll never regret knowing the people that are my friends and associates. I find that listening to music while I'm alone is extremely enjoyable. I can really concentrate on every nuance.
despite the transcription problems, this is exceptional, when it comes to the singing. Don't mistake me, the famous singers of the day are as good, very good.... But his doesn't get heard these days.. A greater change thxs to youtube
Burt Bacharach es esta increíble y sensual base rítmica, la textura de la orquesta, los detalles armónicos del piano, los acentos de los vientos, la voz adelante avanzando como si diera un paseo por tu mente.
She is simply class. No one can replace her for Bert's songs.

This woman has a very even soft sound to her - unlike today's singers that belt out every note they can in one word - she's a class act!
