Really enjoyed this spoiler free review. I was wondering if I should pick up the sequel because while I really enjoyed it, but I did find that lots of time was wasted on the romance. Like we get it, they’re in love-let’s move on to the plot. I did find her writing so beautiful, and you’re right that it’s very atmospheric. I loved the narrator
The lore was definitely my favorite aspect of this book. The characters introduced in the second book were really interesting to me, probably because of how they were tied in with the lore. I found the relationship dynamics in the first half of the book to be quite frustrating, but thought they improved by the end.
I picked up Daughter of Smoke and Bone (per your reccomendation) and will be working through that trilogy before tackling this duology. I'm on the fence, but hopeful 🤞 I just finished the Remnant Chronicles (also per your reccomendation) and Dance of Thieves. Loved the trilogy, and I am waiting in anticipation for Vow of Thieves! I curse myself for having not waited until closer to its release date to tackle my Mary E Pearson list 😂
Great review! I personally did not like Muse of Nightmares nearly as much as I expected to. I loved the themes and Nova’s storyline, but the pacing and balance of perspectives really bothered me. I thought the side characters were going to get more development, especially since they had chapters from their perspectives, but I didn’t see that happening much.
