What I liked the most about Gemini is how easy an image can be generated for me to change my wallpaper for example. But it is true that it cannot replace GA as of today.
@@slickbill9488 you're right. As for my phone. It worked perfectly for the specifications I gave. But it happened the same to me in my desktop. It was blurry.
I don't even use the standard Assistant voice. I use Cyan, because that sounds like the voice of a Black woman. Meanwhile, no alternate voices with Gemini so far. So now I gotta hear some white guy. Lol. 🤦🏿♂️
This is one of the rare instances where having Bixby is useful. I can use Gemini for its AI features, while using Bixby for its more comprehensive device control.
As of today, saturday march 2nd, I installed google assistant on my S24 Ultra's side button, and after I did it, google automatically asked me to use google gemini instead of the google assistant. I do not have the app installed on my phone. Check and make sure if your problem has been addressed. I hope that helped.
The fact that Gemini isn't smart enough to start playing a song in TH-cam Music from vocal direction the way Assistant can is kind of laughable and a deal breaker. Gemini seems focused on pumping out an essay instead of just performing extremely simple tasks which Assistant is very good at. I cannot see how Gemini is a replacement for Assistant if it can't do the most basic tasks.
I haven't tried the new Gemini yet, but I used Bard, ran into the same problem it could not even place a simple phone call for me. Went back to Google Assistant.
Before Google released Gemini, they should've made sure it replaced GA in its entirety. I do like using Gemini though when trying to get as much information on something I'm looking into or finding something I want.
It's stupid that you can't use the app without setting it as your assistant. I would like to be able to keep my Google Assistant and use Gemini in the app just like GPT and Microsoft co-pilot on mobile. I shouldn't have to lose the main reason I bought a pixel just to use Gemini
I'll stay with GA as bad as it is ,until they drag me into Gemini. My family is comfortable with assistant in our home and pulling support for routines and music/podcast control would put a big hole in the current use case
Yeah, I made some Google Home routines of broadcast shortcuts for things I have GA say often, until Gemini integrates that kind of thing, I'm going to have to stick to GA
At the very least, they should give us an option to use the chatbot in the app without replacing the Google Assistant. it should be an option if someone wants to replace the Assistant with Gemini, but again, that should be optional.
Since using Gemini I can't see Answers because the prompt box takes up a lot of the screen,tried most things but the experience on my Chromebook is totally different to on my pixel 6p, love your videos by the way, 😊 Sunderland UK 🇬🇧
Note : any of the Google assistant tasks like making a call and sending a message etc only work when using voice and not if you type. If you type the same prompt it will say it's just a language model.

There are many improvements to be done but a useful one that I never heard anyone talking about would be background playing, if we're listening to an answer sound shouldn't stop when we leave Gemini it should continue playing in the background and a player should be displayed in the quick settings like it happens with streaming music apps cos it just makes sense and cos it can be a very useful tool with minimal changes for example when we're following a tutorial, wouldn't it be great to have it saying each step by request either with voice or a dedicated floating button (Hey google read me the tutorial you just gave me step by step....next....next)
Having Google Assistant on everywhere else and Gemini on the phone is great imo, most of the controls at home are in speakers and outdoors you can use Buds or Watch.
Was too excited to use the app but it still lacks some features: Can't interact with apps "Open §potify" Can't read aloud pages Doesn't support landscape UI Uses the full screen for answers which i don't like after being get used to assistant. Fails to recognise some products searched in screen. Sometimes voice recognition fails.. I've sent many feedback as i encounters but I don't think Google is ready to work on it
Had a problem with Gemini identifying a song in a restaurant, the old assistant used to display on my Pixel screen automatically. Sent a message to Google, but did not hear back.
Played around with Gemini, its half baked tbh. Its slow to respond than google assistant. It can't identify music & tell me the song name but Google Assistant can, using this feature a lot. So im sticking with Google Assistant for until Gemini gets sorted
This has been very helpful. I quickly switched to Gemini once prompted the chance to and didn't even realize that I cannot create tasks or reminders from there which is a big downer personally
I hate it. It does not function as an assistant replacement, can't even perform some basic, common assistant tasks. That would be fine, except every update (which come at least daily in this early launch time) it automatically switches assistant with Gemini.

All Gemini seems to have done is dramatically slow down voice search - by truncating the time Google search waits for you to speak your query - causing at least two further voice attempts prior to the search being productive. In most cases its now quicker to just type the search query! This also has a negative knock-on effect - using more traffic and processing cycles just so Google's knee-jerk panicked response to GPT can return a slow ludicrous ai summary of - in most cases - a basic request for factual information. Google's Gemini is clearly not very clever - it doesn't seem to be able to distinguish the difference between a simple factual information request and requests where more elaboration or action is required. It is the equivalent of having a PA who when asked for the address and phone number of a plumber in your area - suddenly feels it logical to mention that plumbers provide services such as fixing and installing water pipes and taps and other fittings! That's crazy. If I had a PA that responded like this I'd either fire them or send them for psychiatric evaluation.
Won't use Gemini on my phone until it can do everything the assistant can or they force me. Assistant is just far better at assisting me in day to day stuff

Just installed it, asked it to navigate to McDonald's and it said it couldn't do it, not sure what the point of this is if it doesn't handle basic task's...
What i don't understand is the "read out" command. I am using a Pixel 7 pro. The Google assistant can do this without any problems, but why can't Gemini do it? Will this feature come to the Pixel 7 pro? If not, I would be pretty sad because the read aloud-feature comes in quite handy for me.
Well, as a pixel 7 user, I don't plan on changing from assistant to Gemini anytime soon. Gemini does not seem to be anywhere close to what assistant is. So until I see that Gemini can do at least what assistant can do, I'll stick with assistant.

As far as I know, Google Pixels will be carrying this Gemini Nano. However, I believe that the Gemini Nano is also designed for phones with the Dimensity 9300 and 8300.
When is this meant to roll out worldwide on the Play Store? I can download the apk in the UK but then I'd miss out on crucial app updates through the Play Store which would improve how this works. No image generation function is also a sore spot.

Gemini told me it's does not really browse to the internet in the way we use the internet as in. It's connected to the internet and it uses the internet from training, but it doesn't really understand what it's seeing. just the relationship between words. statistics etc..
I would like them to add continued conversation to Gemini assistant like the Google assistant has and I wish we did have to add the webpage to Gemini assistant before it reads the page out loud it's too many steps the Google assistant would just read the page when asked
I just don't get it, I can download the app in the UK now but it's next to useless, can't turn on the torch - can't set an alarm - can't route a map via maps app - can't adjust anything that's associated with Google home - struggles to do basic searches on the net like find an interview. It can explain things I ask about but so can Google assistant it's utterly useless as of now on my pixel 8.
Tried it for 5 min. It sucked. It couldn't handle the simplest tasks. Maybe they can come back in 5 years when they've worked out all the MANY kinks. For now, it's garbage.

The best aspect of assistant is how fast it is. Until Gemini is remotely as fast, will be tough to replace assistant

I think both is great but u can't use gemini and GA at the same time. Maybe when it's updated, I'll use gemini only. Until then, I'll use both

the biggest issue for me is whenever you ask gemini anything it switches to the app, rather than giving you the answer in the pop up window.

Ive had horrible luck using Gemini as Google Assistant so i will be sticking to Google Assistant and using Copilot if i want to use an AI
Plus it's gimped if you live in certain countries. Copilot can generate images for me. Gemini can't.

When Gemini incorporates the core Assistant features and works offline, then ill make a full switch

Personally the delay is a killer. I asked it a math problem and it spun for 10 seconds.
