    I've heard a few complaints about the $10 billion cost of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). But that was over 10 years, which was $3 per American per year. I'd call that a bargain for what we hope to be revolutionary discoveries.

    • @mypud4068

    • @JPMadden
      @JPMadden 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mypud4068 I was curious how NASA's budget has changed over the years, so I googled it. I found a Wikipedia page titled "Budget of NASA." It has a chart with the totals adjusted to today's dollars. Aside from the '60s, it's surprisingly consistent.

    • @mypud4068
      @mypud4068 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @JPMadden
      @JPMadden 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mypud4068 I agree NASA should have a larger budget. That chart I mentioned shows that in the last 30 years, their budget has declined from 1% to 0.5% of the total federal budget, despite the dollar amount declining by only about 10%. This is a reflection of the huge increases in defense, health care, and interest on the national debt since 1990. Years ago, I read an article listing some surprising things that the federal government spends more on than NASA. The one I remember was air conditioning for our military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    The moon of Jupiter he mentioned, Io, is pronounced "Eye-O" not "Low".
    The cloud storm over Saturn's northern pole is a perfect hexagonal shape. It looks too perfect to be natural but, it is.
    Europa, one of Jupiter's moons, is believed to contain a water ocean under its frozen surface containing more than twice the water of Earth and could contain life.
    If you were to land on Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune, you wouldn't be able to "stand" on those planets because there is no solid surface. They're gas planets w a solid core deep at the center.
    Surrounding the Solar System is the Oort Cloud which also orbits the Sun, it will take Voyager 1 another 20,000 years to finally exit the Solar System.

    The size of our own galaxy is pretty much impossible for the human brain to process. Yes, it can be measured with numbers, but these numbers become almost meaningless. And then you realize..... oh there are countless galaxies. The interesting part is realizing that there is so much space that anything you can imagine, it probably exists. But then you go down the rabbit hole wondering what existed before time and matter and you start getting into the freaky/existential stuff.

    There are a lot of misleading things in the way Bright Side does their videos. In this video they failed to use scale images in some comparisons, provide enough background information, and even got placement wrong. The animated storm on Jupiter was one of them as it was not only much bigger than the Great Red Spot but you could actually see the Great Red Spot to the left of it. Another thing was that they said Neptune was hiding Planet Nine as if it was sitting right behind it. This is not what anyone believes. The Planet Nine theories are based on the odd orbits of several dwarf planets beyond Pluto as well as Neptune's and Pluto's seemingly perturbed orbits. Pluto's elliptical orbit actually comes within the orbit of Neptune at one point (closer to the sun than Neptune). Computer models made to attempt to explain these strange orbits hint at the possible existence of a large planet far out in the Kuiper Belt.

      @davidheiser2225 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And of course "Lapetus" and "Lo". Videos like this really do a disservice, making people think they know things that are actually way wrong.

But it is hard for reactors to always find them without people recommending them. Otherwise all they have to go on is a clickbait title like Brightside uses.

    Ok astronomy major here we go
    The other main problem with venus is you’ll be crushed and toasted instantly
    Titan a moon of Saturn has a heavy methane atmosphere, because it has the same pressure as earth you don’t need a spacesuit just a warm coat
    The planet nine theory hasn’t seen any new data that I am aware of, but then again if the sun were the size of a kickball, they’re looking for a pea 17 miles away, it’s difficult to say the least
    The moon of Jupiter they talk about is called io, not Lo, it’s color is often compared to a moldy pizza
    Olympus mons, the largest volcano on mars, is about twice the height of Everest. If it were on earth at the top you’d be close to becoming an astronaut. Vallus marinarus was likely formed far earlier in mars history when it had plate tectonics, that would be the site of two plates pulling away, combined with water erosion you get a giant canyon the length of the US

As for actually getting there it takes about the energy of a 28 megaton explosion perfectly controlled to get 1kg to near light speed and the same to slow it down and of course you need a ship were people can survive a minimum 5 years. Your talking about deathstar lazer levels of energy. Not to mention you can't see so you can't steer and even a small rock hitting you at that speed would carry nuclear bomb levels of energy.

      Not necessarily, it’s theoretically possible to bend the fabric of space so instead of traveling all that distance you could essentially fold space in half life a piece of paper and suddenly distance becomes a minor problem

      @@mypud4068 Theoretically possible being the key word. To actually make a stable worm hole requires two places with black hole levels of space time curvature (enter and exit points), exotic matter we have yet to find, string theory to be correct and a absolutely ridiculous amount of energy. Even if we some how fuigered that all out the nearest black hole to us is 5200 light years away and of course worm hole only work in one direction and there is no possible way of telling were the wormhole actually goes.

    I love your content, and I've been subscribed and watching for quite awhile now, but I'm curious why when the videos are presented in 1080p60 it still looks like 720p and not even 720p60. It's not my system. When other videos are presented this way I do see the clarity difference. But for some reason your videos don't portray it. I'm not a technical guy so I wonder what's happening here. Thanks, guys!

      It's possible that their recording at 720p and are simply editing and uploading at 1080p. This would cause such an issue because it's still just a 720p video if that is exactly what the camera originally recorded. Also, the frame rate has nothing to do with the sharpness of the image. That just determines how often the image refreshes. 60fps will have slightly less jitter with fast-moving motion. Since they're just sitting there, this isn't really a noticeable effect. Most movies for example are just shot at 24fps. Even animated TV shows.

      @@GalaxyFur Thank you for that. I kinda know what what you mean. But I've seen 4k stuff that looks amazing but when the 60fps comes into play it's like better than reality sometimes. Like I said, I have no clue how it works. I would imagine you'd need a very expensive camera and a computer with componants that could handle it. Also, their video of them in their "studio" seems low rez. So, yeah, recorded at 720p, but how do you upload at a higher quality without it remaining the same as was recorded? I'm confused!

    • @GalaxyFur
      @GalaxyFur 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is software out there that can use AI to bring up the video resolution. But it's far from perfect. It only takes an educated guess and tries to add in pixels by mimicking the actual real pixels that do exist. But it's a far cry from actual native resolution.
      Also what you are seeing is that not all 4K video cameras are treated the same. A cheap 4K camera will have a smaller image sensor and will not look as good as a high-end 4K camera that has a larger image sensor.
      A larger image sensor allows for more light and less image artifacting. Also a higher-end 4K camera will have better onboard image processing capabilities for better color accuracy and better lighting compared to a cheap camera.
      Both cameras will still produce a 4K image typically in the 3840 x 2160 (16:9) format. But a cheap camera will still produce softer lower quality imagery despite it still being a true 4K image if the internal processing isn't all that great on the camera.
      Also, you can export a 720p image to video editing software. And typically export it at 1080p if you want. Or even at 4K. But your video editing software will only up-res the image with the most basic of AI. So you will get a 1080p video. But it will appear no sharper than a 720p native video.

      No we don't in my opinion. A lot of stuff "we" "know" about space is just a best guess. Experts don't even know for sure that that portion of what they think they know is right. On earth better scientific approaches can be used giving us a better understanding of stuff and we know more.
      Additionally since we all live on earth there are billions of people who have an understanding of some aspects of it just as a consequence of everyday life. Add all that collective knowledge to knowledge acquired by those in various businesses, academia, and doing research for other reasons and I would be surprised if the relatively tiny amount of people gaining knowledge about space know more (with much greater constraints on how that knowledge is gained).
      Some aspects of earth I'm sure have collectively less known about them than some aspects of space, but I doubt more is known about space than the planet as a whole.

    This TH-cam channel has some interesting facts, but they also tend to make a LOT of errors and their visualizations can completely misinterpret the "facts". For example, it's Iapetus and Io, not Lapetus and Lo. And the Kuiper belt is not AROUND Neptune, it's BEYOND Neptune, but their visualization showed the former. These are just a few examples of errors in this video.
