  • Tour another newly completed #laneway home here in #Toronto. This one constructed by 2x2 Construction who have been exceptionally accommodating in letting me film. Kyle Springer, from 2x2 Construction is a wealth of knowledge who knows this laneway home inside out. I was lucky enough to ask him about the cost of constructing something like this, and his detailed answer was a breath of fresh air. I featured his answer in the video for all those interested. Watch to the end and be sure to comment with any questions.

    Raymond thank you for sharing this video. It's mind blowing how Toronto laneway housing is so different compared to Vancouver in terms of size. Vancouver has too many policies and restrictions when it comes to building one, and the one that irks me the most is its maximum height can only be 1.5 stories, maximum size of 940sq depending on the size of the lot.

      I would love to see one in Vancouver in person to compare.

    If only the graffiti was removed before filming... but watching this makes me think that this unit could put some shrubs along the front walls under the window to prevent people getting close to the brick wall and "tagging" it.

    Graffiti already on such a new build. Can't imagine a few years later

    Hi Raymond, love your videos.
    Can we get a few more details?
    How wide was the plot?
    I'm guessing 300 per sq ft doesn't include the cost to procure the permit? How much does that add to it?
    Is a basement or partial possible with laneway house?
    I think the place is beautiful and would love to do something similar in the future.

      For the most accurate answer, I would suggest reaching out to 2x2 Construction. I don’t want to reply here with an answer that isn’t 100% correct.

    Can you explain how the purchase/rental of homes like this works? And what about the access to the garden?

    • @Raymond.W
      @Raymond.W  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These laneway homes are not severable from the main home, so you will need to purchase an existing home/lot with laneway access in the back to build one. Once you have built one, you can lease it out through all the common methods such as through a realtor on MLS.

    Yet another design that makes everything small. Note how the living room is not even mentioned, as it is basically a few square feet that serves as an entrance way/walk through to the kitchen. The first two bedrooms are so small as to be useless once you place a bed. Does nobody own a chest of drawers anymore? And, could "designers" please stop putting two compartment sinks in kitchens, they are useless. If those designers ever attempted to cook they might be aware.
