In my opinion, the best sharpener out there, is the KUM automatic Long Point. The inexpensive plastic KUM Long point, which costs only 0.60 cents, is also a great sharpener, since it provides a similar point to the automatic long sharpener and also comes with 2 extra blades. That quality, plus the extra blades is just crazy!! DUX and M+R are great too, but I don't think they are as good as KUM is.
Yes, there seems to be a somewhat inverse relationship because many pencil sharpeners’ quality and price. The one exception for me lately is the metal Blackwing long point, but I understand it’s a luxury good
