Hey Guys , thanks for this. I have been repairing professionally for over 20 years and have never had a rod so stuck I couldn't get it out with penetrating oil and heat UNTIL this week. I've know about Alum but had no ideas on ratios or time frame so this video came at the perfect time!
Thanks for another super informative video. Question: can you re-use the alum solution? Will it keep? Can you put it in a jar or something until the next time you need it?
Yes! You can keep it in the container you used to boil it. As the water evaporates it will turn into a sludge and then dry, so you'll need to add water to re-use.
First you must determine which part of the rod is stuck, whether it be in the threads or in the key sections itself. We would start with penetrating oil for that, and use a mixture of oil and heat since it's difficult to un-solder than entire rib, especially based on the brand. If it is really stuck you will may be able to cut the rod off and use the Alum technique for the portion that is left in the key.
very informative video, thank you so much for all the videos you guys create.
Thanks David!

What a great coincidence!
Thanks for the class on Alum, I have a couple of antique flutes that have stuck steel rods in the posts, this would be the ticket!
Glad to hear it!

What is your technique for removing a RH stack rod with rail-mounted posts?

With patience, persistence and some luck!😂
