  • Here is a tour around Adelaide and South Australia from 1986. This was from a VHS titled "The Video Postcard: Adelaide and South Australia". It states on the cover that it is an "Official Jubilee 150 Product".
    I had to censor a few minor parts of the video as it contained nudity.
    The quality is not as good as I would like i to be, but that's the best my capture device and computer can do at the moment. Seems like they don't like the outdoor/tour videos much.

    I've never been, but, boy, does this make me feel wonderfully nostalgic for my teen years. Wouldn't we appreciate everything more if we went back!

      I am a Tasmanian who moved to Adelaide in December 1985 to work for Commonwealth Education on North Terrace. I really liked the state and mixed with the rich and the not rich and I thought South Australians were the most friendly I have met in any Australian state. Compared to other states South Oz people were open, friendly, knowledgeable re current issues and great fun. Have been back to Adelaide many times since and always had fun. Last time was for Womad in 2010.

    I was there in March and ventured down Hindley St, nothing but massage parlours.. grimy and filthy street. It’s like the city just gave up on that street. Still years away from capturing its potential

    • @MysticOblong

      I live in Adelaide and had no idea there's nothing but massage parlours on Hindley St. So all the shops I walk past on that long street must be fronts for brothels!

    • @timmyhexham9603
      @timmyhexham9603 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MysticOblong yeah, pays to walk around in the city. I grew up in Adelaide and lived there until I was 33.. obviously not every shop is a massage parlour or even leads to a brothel. But if you walk down the street, you’ll see them. Actually, you can’t miss them, they yell out at you for a massage when you walk by.

      @@timmyhexham9603 OK, I'll go for a walk up and down Hindley St and check it out again. Much of the street has been gentrified and is aimed at students. It was actually worse back a few years back.

    I have lived in Adelaide all my life. It used to be beautiful, just like it is presented in this documentary. I’m afraid it has become a shit hole like no other now. Adelaide was alive in the 80s. Everyone was friendly and caring. Try striking up a conversation in Rundle Mall today and see what happens. I remember catching the bus to work in my teens. Everyone knew each other. On Friday night we would catch the train into the city. The city was pumping, full of energy. Maybe I’m just an old goat, but I do miss the old Adelaide. You can have this one, it’s over!
