We're on a journey to learn about life through The Twilight Zone. Consider joining us. But, even if you don't, thanks for taking some time to be with us. Do you believe there exists a pull toward self-destruction in modern society?

Yes, I couldn't put my finger on it, but that's precisely it. It's a great approach to a Twilight Zone discussion. One of my favorite classes ever was in High School. It was called Supernatural Literature, but the teacher loved Alfred Hitchcock, and we spent most of the semester studying his films and one or two of the books he based them on.

What a wonderful compliment. I sneak the Twilight Zone into my first-year college classes whenever I can. I can tell you, my students not only love the episode, but they love talking about it. So, Rod Serling is still working his magic. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

@@thekeyofimagination I would've loved a college course that snuck Twilight Zone episodes into the lessons. Now that I think of it, I wish my high school teacher had done the same with TZ. I'm sure she mentioned the show and Serling, but it wasn't as easy in the 90s to get TZ on cassette. Thankfully, we had our yearly marathons. 🤗

As an introvert, I need that time alone to think clearly, plan my day, and veg out. I also need to do something I enjoy while I have a little peace.
I can certainly relate to Bemis, but I also feel Henry was somewhat selfish. I realize his wife was wicked, but he didn’t show one ounce of concern for ANYONE who died or the horribly dangerous situation he was in. That’s how far removed he was from society with his head in the clouds. That was a great point about his glasses and the foreshadowing of getting them adjusted. You can also feel slight compassion for his wife; he probably neglects so many things in his marital relationship that it all falls on her, and she’s most likely neglected.
I admit to loving apocalyptic stories. One of my favorites is Day of the Triffids. I liked the book, and I liked the movie, as crazy as it was with walking alien plants. Lol.

I find it hard to be too critical of Henry Bemis, because the premise of this episode is that it is a dystopia. If society ever loses its way so much that I was ridiculed for reading, I wouldn't want anything to do with anyone either. And what happens? Society destroys itself, and he was serendipitously saved only because of his isolation.
