Hey Graham, we have been blessed with a very warm fall, we normally get a frost and first snow around the middle of Sept. This year almost the end of October....unheard of. But no worries, the door is down, and the heater is on. Still cranking out the projects and having a good ole time doing it.
Great work Dale. Thank you for the link to your at/ct seat re-cover video, it helped me out tremendously. I sure did not want to screw up a new $150 seat cover/foam. With your tips from the video it went smoothly and I am happy with the results. Thanks again.
Nice instruction video Dale and producing cables. Used to be a time when most bike shops offered the service. Good to know the procedure so you can do it yourself.
Thanks Craig, man when I was a kid working in the bike shop in the 70's it seems I was making cables every day. Your right, that was just part of the services we provided. There are a few out there that do it, but few and far between. I make a lot with the projects I do, only recently I found folks are interested in doing it too. My plan is to go through building birdcage tool and cover the pieces and parts sources for this stuff. Thanks for watching.
Late to the party, had to work. Great progress Dale. I'm looking forward to the exhaust build, just like the rest of the gang. It was warm and sunny here today but I doubt that winter is far away. Best wishes, Dean.
I tell you Dean, work always got in my way, now I probably spend more hours a day working but it's fun, of course that's because its motorcycles. It has really been nice here, this cold snap was way overdue.
Well hello neighbor, sounds like a great project, it always warms my heart to hear of father and son restorations. Good for you. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
@@montana2strokeracer Hello neighbor! Did you get any snow today? Started to here in Townsend and then petered out, and that’s fine with me. Any way hoping you have a merry Christmas!
Hey Kerry, we had a couple of flakes here this morning, nothing on the ground. We have been in the 50's and one day in the 60's this week. I have lived in Great Falls for over 30 years, never have I seen this kind of winter here. I will enjoy it till it changes, and I am sure it will. Merry Christmas
@@montana2strokeracer I know, it’s really crazy how nice the weather has been; when it’s like this though sometimes we can kiss spring and early summer good bye. I was in GF Tues and Wednesday, maybe one of these days I’ll swing by for a visit. Cheers!!
Thanks Mark, yes I am sure it will get beat up, but it will look good when its happing. What is not to like about the low pipes on the early works Suzuki's, CZ's, and Bultacos.
Thanks Don and thank you for the fabrication diagram. I know it won't be easy and most likely frustrating, but it might be fun and look pretty darn nice too. Hope you got your audio straightened out, that is frustrating for sure, it has happened to me many times. Now I double check everything before I start and keep the components updated with the newest changes.
I couldn't get a nice clean cut on the cable core like you do so I wrapped it with electrical tape and then made the cut with a Dremel tool and cutoff disk. Perfectly clean ends. The cables that I bought from Venhill USA had a one piece end for the lever; same as stock. Not the two pieces like you make. I wonder if, because there is less slack to allow the Venhill cable to pivot more, that was the reason mine frayed and eventually broke. Thanks for taking the time to show us your secrets.
Hi David, yes, I use to cut cable like that, wrapping with tape and cutting with a cutoff wheel. This cutter I have now is so easy and crisp clean cuts with half the effort. I thank the viewer that sent it to me every time I use it. For the Yamaha enduro cables I get here in the states they come with the two part end on the lever end. My terminal end kit also comes that way so that is what I use. Thanks for watching the channel
Thank you, Johnnie, I enjoy doing this. Don't want to hear about your weather, I look at it this way......the cold weather keeps the riffraff out of here, if they move here in the summer they leave in the winter after the first cold snap. Enjoying your Snapper series. Thanks buddy.
Dale: Fabulous, I've never tried to make up cables so was REALLY interested. Where did you purchase the cable and cable housing and where did the big box of cable end fittings come from. Did you make your own Birdcage block or did you purchase it. The only source for cable stuff I've found when looking is in Britain - by VenHill. Keep up the great work, I can only suspect the hours that go into these video's and thank you for sharing the know-how. Alex
Hi Alex, Motion Pro has all the cable components and cable and housing parts you need. I think you can order direct now, but in the past, you had to go thru a dealer, the dealer I use is Summit Racing Equipment. (I do get some of the smaller 1.25mm cable stuff from Azuza engineering out of California too, they are a go kart business.) This stuff is hard to find on the Motion Pro website, but it is there. I look the part numbers up there and then order from Summit since they offer free shipping on 99.00 and up. Yes, I made my own birdcage tool, very easy to do with a couple pieces of angle iron. I have had a lot of interest in the birdcage tool, so my plan is to show how to make one in an upcoming video, at which time I will also go over the sources for the cable, cable ends, solder pot, and solder. I have really been amazed at the folks that want to build their own cables. I make many every year here in my shop because you just can't get some and sometimes the ones you order don't fit. So, I have evolved a lot in cable making since I was a youngster working in a Suzuki Hodaka shop in southeast Kansas. Hey Alex thanks for hanging out with me in the shop.
Very observant Frank, yes, I keep and use one pretty often living on the river here, we get a lot of porcupines and badgers up by the house. The dogs usually tell me they are here, try to get to them before they get to the dogs. To have all those quills removed at the vet is pretty expensive.
Hi James, I get all my cable supplies from Motion Pro, a few smaller cable parts such as 1.25mm from Azuza enginnering. Motion Pro will have all the 2.5mm, 2mm, and 1.5mm cables and cable ends. I order through Summit Racing Equipment to get the free shipping, they are a Motion Pro dealer.
Some great tips Dale "Every day is a school day"
Thanks James, Merry Christmas.
I noticed the closed garage and wondered if the weather had changed. From 80 farenheit to snow! Thanks for another excellent video Dale.

Thanks Dale , I have to make some new cables for my 73 Yamaha TX 500 . I needed to watch this to get back up to speed .

Thanks Alan, I am looking forward to the pipe build too, it has been years since I did one, and then it was ugly.
Hi, there! Love the fabrication videos. Awesome!
Thanks buddy, that is probably my favorite part of the hobby.
beautiful, powdered sunshine!
Yes, it is, this weather is what keeps the riffraff out. They may come in the summer, but they leave after the first winter.
Dale, I’m in Montana also.
My son and I are restoring an 81 MX175.
Enjoying your videos immensely!
