@Christopher Jeffery I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I'd say you got lucky not having to clean the carb / jets. Fuel that old almost always leaves some green chunkies that plug up the ports. Ultrasonic cleaners are awesome for resolving this. Nice mower!
This was one of the most satisfying things I’ve watched in a long time. You got such a steal on the holy grail of reel mowers. Phenomenal job on the restoration and the whole production of this. It was truly a pleasure to watch.
Thanks for the tips on the motorcycle cleaner and vacuum pump, I have a lot of work to do on it and it’s nice to watch a good video that shows good tips and narrated well.
I've bought lots of used equiptment and I mostly agree w/ what you said. I had the exact same kawasaki engine and besides the air filter and fuel bowl needing replacement it started up instantly after someone had it sit for years. On my personal equipment that I have sit for a long time, some are project engines and sit for 2+ years I drain all the fuel, drop the sediment bowl(most people forget that one and drop the carb bowl. Let everything evaporate for several days and put it in storage 100% dry and these will start up several years later w/o issue. If it's something I use once a year I run either tru fuel or aspen in it and have never had an issues. The longest I had something sit w/ tru fuel was 3 years and it started right up. I don't really change spark plugs anymore, especially on used equipment since they tell a story. I recently bought a John Deere riding mower and the previous owner swore the head gasket was bad. The spark plug didn't snow signs of oil being burned and It burned out the valve cover gasket was the culprit. After I get the machine running I'll clean the spark plugs and reuse them. If it's a good NGK plug the electrode isn't going to get worn enough to really ever need replacing in a lawnmower engine. I've had equiptment w/ old old old Briggs w/ the original plugs and after cleaning they fired up just fine. The only spark plugs I'll change are Torch as I've had one or two of those that were bad. I may have had 1 bad NGK but it was after I cleaned it and I'm pretty sure I broke the ceramic while cleaning. I also like to do a thorough inspection of the belts as if they are cracked I'll get new ones. Last thing depending on where they were stored I like to take the top tin off to look for mice nests and if the aluminum fins are dirty clean them. I didn't do this until I almost caught a machine on fire. The thing was smoking everywhere and I was sure it was going to go up in flames...Luckily it didn't.
Lot of great tips on here. I’m going to try out the motorcycle cleaner for sure. Also like the oil pump and fitting for putting in the new oil. Thanks.
Wow guy- This is my 2nd video of yours. The first was a dethatcher video. You've got some good stuff. Informative and presented in an interesting way. Props.
If things have sat for a long time, it is better to clean out the float bowl by taking it off the carb. Usually the jets are OK but if you have an ultrasonic cleaner, you can clean the entire carb. First thing to do is to check for spark.
1) when draining/filling mower fluids it is better to put down a tarp. spilled fluids will kill grass and stain the driveway. 2) i would recommend putting in some seafoam or b12 chemtool to dissolve varnish build up. 3) i use a little anti seize on the spark plug
I bought a used mower with a Kawasaki motor and it had the same plastic bulb on the fuel switch . I unscrewed it and it was full of gunge. It’s definitely worth cleaning that I think it’s a water trap and should be cleaned
Ya know those wheels come off when you mow on the greens or tees the wheels are just for transport. If it is set for greens it will be set at about 7/16 of an inch or shorter, if it is set for tees it is set at about 3/8 to 1/2 inch.
Just found a very clean Greensmaster 1000 with brand new bed knife for $400. I've been looking for almost a year and one finally popped up on Craigslist locally. It cuts paper all the way across the blade so I feel like I got a SUPER bargain. After watching this video I'm going to get all the grease fittings applied. How many did you find? Great video!!!
I think you got a great deal also. I believe there were 8, they are all visible though, and there is one under the belt cover too. Definitely download the service manual which you can get online as well. Best wishes.
I decided to get one. Please let me know if you see anywhere, because in my country it is not exist or really hard to find. I'd appreciate! Many many Thanks for the content :)
@@randyman8984 Thank you for the VERY kind comment. I really appreciate it. These all take a lot of time but I really enjoy getting to share what I do with everyone and the feedback really is encouraging. Lots more coming too. Thank you again
Very cool! Up here they are very tough to find also. Having worked on a lot of equipment these are very rugged. Most times it will just be maintenance items that will cause any issues which can be easily resolved. Hope it works out well for you!
Yeah these mowers are mainly used for warm season grasses like bermuda, But they do nice on cool season grasses too. Check out connor ward here on you tube. He has a cool season grass type and mows VERY low with a reel and his lawn looks amazing!
I have bermuda and would love to find a deal like you did on a reel. I have been looking at getting a reel. Main thing Ive read is you have to have a level lawn for it look its best. Something I dont lol
you have some great timesavers in this one. im a lawn care guy, and I picked up two MUST ads in this video. Im getting that stihl sprayer for washing fluid, and the caps for the 1 quart bottles. Im always looking for a funnel to top off oil on our equipment. That is such a great idea....TY!!
Thank you. They have saved me a lot of times over the years and some very nasty chemicals work great in the Stihl too so it's heavy duty. I wish Stihl sold online but most dealers cary that size in stock..
It is a sad tale for me with the reel mower. It was a beautiful machine and I was very excited to use it but after I sat back and realized I had over an acre of grass I realized :) that it wasn't going to work. I also like to mow multiple times a week. I never would have been done! I have looked at a few riding machines but without a vacuum pickup I don't think it's practical for me. So the short version is that I sold it. But with equipment I am always getting new items so there is a good chance there will be another one back in my life and I will share a video of it.
Great video! I've enjoyed all the videos that related to me that you've made. This is my favorite so far. Where did you get replacement parts and find out what year model it is? I do have labels. It's not very clear to me though. Thanks

No I sold it. It was a nice machine. but long term I would no longer recommend it. The issue is pats prices and maintenance. You have to take the whole machine to a shop for sharpening and most won't do it. Don't be fooled by a few people that have a place to take it, that's not the norm. This is the reason prices on these skyrocketed, but then went back down. You are much better off buying an Allett long term if you wan't to mow low. Hope this helps.
