When you think you have the gas block adjusted where you want it turn your rifle to the left, right, and upside down and fire from each position. What I have found is that at times the gas may be enough to lock the bolt back while fired from a normal position but with the gun fired from an odd angle it may need more gas.
Thanks Jesse! Good stuff! I had a feeling my issue was temperature related. Shooting at 34 degrees & not completely cycling. Getting it tuned I. For The Shot Show match.
I always taught that even if you can get the bolt to lock, the gas block may not be properly tuned. I understood that with the muzzle being 12:00 and the charging handle being 6:00, the cases should eject 20-30 degrees beyond the 3:00 position and slightly to the rear of the shooter. Cases ejecting anywhere ahead of 3:00 = under gassed. Or is that an old wives tail?
You might not want to remove the adjusting screw all the way out to put loctite on it. Rather most of the way out. You dont want to get it on the tip of the screw and into the orifice where it would harden.
Just found your channel. THANKS! I just got a PSA Gen 2, 6.5 & its carrier bolt was slamming HARD into the recoil assy. WAY overgassed. It has the adjustment & the lock for it. Your instruction saved me from having to send the damn thing back. PSA did NOT send any instructions w the unit. Subbed!
Thank you for your kind words and welcome to our channel, Dave! We're glad we were able to help - if you ever need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Have a great day!
Jesse, what system does the Sig Sauer M400 have? Gas? I used an AR at a job I used to have and it hardly had any recoil...lately I've been shooting the Sig Sauer M400 and it recoils a lot compared to the AR I had at work.
I’m having issue’s with FTF & FTE on my AR-10 shotgun . I haven’t check to see if it has an adjustable gas block yet . If it does I will try your technique . If it doesn’t should I try a different spring & buffer . Or replace it to an adjustable block ? Also I have seen damaged aluminum blocks . Would you recommend an adjustable stainless steel block . If so what kind would you recommend . I would like it to be reliable . It is an Utas 12 gauge . Thank You It is a Rod Operating System ..
Would have been cool if you would have continued tuning ...to show how to get the ideal 3oclock ejection .....but im sure its not terribly hard to figure out
Is it just me but direct impingement guns are rather difficult to adjust? It's not like the FAL, where you can just move the dial left and right on the spot.
Great vid. Thanks. I just finished my first AR10 308 build. I have a Sentry 7 SLR Rifleworks 15 position gas block. I can get spent cartridge ejection and new round loaded, but I have not been able to get the hammer to cock. The rounds are Winchester 150 grain and ejection of the brass is at about 3:00. Any thoughts on what might be causing this issue?
Hi Andy, Sounds like this could be a tuning issue Yea it’s a tuning issue. For example, the carrier isn’t going back far enough to cock the hammer. If the gas block is wide open and there still not enough power, you might need to go to a different buffer spring/buffer weight? Maybe try higher power ammo? Those are a couple of different ways to possibly troubleshoot this. If none of this works, go ahead and email "techsales@opticsplanet.com", and ask away. Thanks for the question & comment!
A question for anyone. I just finished my first AR build, a 300 Blackout pistol. My only question is about the adjustable gas block, which I have never worked with. I just test fired it and it functions just fine. But, the shell casings are smacking the shell deflector so hard that it is denting all of the necks at the top. Can I assume this is due to too much gas and I should just dial it back?
Yeah, I would dial it back a little. What are the different rounds you are using and grain? The thing is with 300blk, it is tricky to get it at the right adjustment. So many factors :Barrel length, rounds, gas port, buffer spring, suppressed/or non.
If your going to open up the adjustment screw that much, then why don't you just run a non-adjustable gas block. I thought the whole idea behind an adjustable gas block was for turning down the gas to lessen the recoil.. Just saying..
@@boricuaarecibo9259 is it PSA? i have the exact same problem. is it denting your casings by hitting the brass deflector? the PSA kit is adjustable gas block
@Jeffrey Dohnger ummmmmm idk about you, but all of my ARs do not do that, nor have I ever seen one do that. The bolt locks to the rear, but for some reason the charging handle moves backwards Everytime? Doesn't make a lot of sense
Hi JJ, It would depend on the bullet weight and velocity of the ammunition. Our recommendation would be to contact the manufacturer. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us!
Thanks, I'll get a hold of them. It's a 300 Blackout, so ammo I tend to shoot are 147 grain supersonic and 208 grain subsonic (10.5" barrel, pistol length gas system)
Hi Jimmy, Thank you for your feedback! We're always looking to add new videos to our page and it may be a possibility in the future. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact us!

+Davee david Hi Davee, there are many different models out there with different designs that allow you to set/adjust your gasblock. +OpticsPlanet hey thanks man .....I bought a seekins precision adjustable has block cost about $57 ...I saw your set screw placement and thought maybe I installed mine backwards but then I saw must be diff model of seekins
Davee david Hi Davee, yea I can see where this can get confusing. Some models have a flat front with no exit hole, making it a no-brainer on how to install them, whereas the seekins is open in the front.I guess the best way to remember the direction of install would be that only one side has an opening for setting the screw, and should always be to the right side of your barrel when looking down the sight of your rifle. IF, of course we are actually talking about the same gas block.
Greetings! Thanks for the comment. It will completely depend on the gas block and handguard and how the rifle is setup. Some handguards allow for tuning and some require removal of the handguard. The same goes for the gas block - some allow for tuning through the handguard and others require removal. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us!
Greetings! It will also depend on the handguard being used. The Seekins adjustable can be adjusted on the fly with two set screws that are accessed on the front and right hand side of the gas block. If your handguard has large enough openings, the gas block can be adjusted without removing the handguard - but it will be completely dependent on the handguard.
Xaro Xhoan Daxos - they have different grades of lock tight for different purposes, including high temp applications. In some cases you'll need a torch to loosen the lock tight enough to back off a nut or screw
I have an "Anderson Manufacturing Low Profile Adjustable Gas Block - .750" - Set Screw Style." However as I am trying to adjust the gas block with my Allen Wrench, it does not seem to be locking onto something. It literally just feels like I am sticking a 5/64 wrench into an empty hole. Can someone please confirm if there is supposed to be a small screw in the port where you adjust? I believe I may be missing something here on the gas block itself.
Thank you for getting straight to the point and providing great instruction.
This is how you TH-cam. Take notes vloggers!

You can but gas blocks that are adjustable for different types of ammo and reloads that you can adjust like a fnfal

I have a question.
Why is the charging handle go back everytime you shoot a round to lock the bolt? Idk how some AR-15s work.
The charging handle sits on top of the bcg and when it is locked back the charging handle can move freely back and forth.
