" I gotta go, my wife wants Chinese." Classic! Lol. Thanks for sharing. I totally agree with you btw on the changes. I love the old magnifier and Phillips, but prefer the new file/hacksaw. Thanks man!
Ya I still love mine too! Right now I'm using a S557. It's a great urban edc. No saw or metal file. Smaller like the sportsman. Mix between Wenger and Victorinox.
Something you overlooked... on all new 91mm knives since early 2000 the flat head screwdriver has an extra nib on the shank that helps stop the driver closing when used in the fully extended position.
I have the old one as well, and I am very happy with it. I did not know about the shorter screw driver, but you missed that they also added the hook and a pin to the newer one as well. I have the 1985 version that I purchased the same year, which I think is the original.
I've one of the old ones as well. Served me well over the decades. I think they are more accurately called a "Champion" which was superceded by the SwissChamp
Yeah the newer one is better. The file being thicker makes it capable of more tasks than just a file. And its more aggressive as a file. Mag glass being bigger is sweet too! Phillips is shorter but still very good!
Hey, the Blade of the old one is 2,4 mm thick and the new one only 2 mm. The bottle opener and Phillips dosn‘t stop half way on the older. Greetings from Germany 👋

"I don't know why they needed to fit a bigger magnifying glass?" Doh!
So normally quality decreases over the years with manufacturing. With victronox, the quality increases lol.
Still love my vintage champ

Thomas Harrison oh did I? They did do that didn't they.... Thanks for watching. Even with the poor quality of the old vid.

Thanks for your input and tolerating the old bad looking vid! Im going to redo this vid some day lol!
Old one? Looks new compared to my 1978 version - magnifying glass, tools etc different

I have owned my Swiss champ since 1985 and both the philips and bottle opener stop half way.
Good review. Can you put this knife in your pocket to edc?
Thank you! Yes you can but it takes up pretty much the whole pocket. I use a victorinox pouch.
@@JimHowlett71 thanks
@@JimHowlett71 Which pouch do you use?
My file on mine is not like that at all. Mine was 2015 i think ?
The new magnifying glass has better magnification so its better for spotting and getting a splinter out ect,,, and it's easier to start fires with 👍
Why house the magnifying glass in plastic to start with, steel is much better
