very clever! I wonder if you could use say a spare ring pull lid off a food can to put over part of the stove when it is burning to help block some of the jets to drop the heat if you need to?? ( a bit like the sliding lid on a Triangia burner???) or would it put the stove out??

Easier and simple compared to the coke can, but you should really have cleaned out the paint first. Burning paint especially mixed what ever fuel you use would cause toxic fumes.

If the holes were in the lid, if you extinguish the flames, you could replace the lid with a lid without holes to stop the alcohol from evaporating!? 😶
I have a better idea then alcohol not as risky. Take the can and put card board in the can tightly and melt wax into the cardboard let it set up then use it when ever.
Probably a longer can should do it, than a wider can? But if the can is longer, is there less gas pressure as it runs out of alcohol, hence it cuts out? 🤔

Adding a soaking cotton cloth inside and 3 bricks on the side as a pot stand and wind break helps ....😊😊
