it's hilarious in the comments seeing people say things like "The show needs to be more straight" or "They shouldn't make it overly gay" when actual gays are saying it's too straight. Like bruv it's a show ABOUT being gay, don't like it don't watch it, don't tell us how we should be represented

@@misojimo2154 I can only agree, I love such shows, though I came out everywhere in my environment even at work by now and watched the shows afterwards, it's still great to see this and it helps others :D
Imagine how much hate these two actors would receive if they were actually gay. I love Love, Victor and appreciate the story it's telling, but I wish that representation also featured LGBT+ actors. Michael and George are wonderful, but they will never be able to truly understand what it means to grow up gay.
I totally agree!! It’s like..okay..we need allies - Straight/Cis actors who speak up about lgbtq+ issues, but at the same time it’s another series with barely any lgbtq+ actors/producers. Authentically told queer stories (like euphoria, i may destroy you, pose) cover lgbtq+ experiences beyond coming-out and a cute relationship because the actors know about every nuance of being queer. Love, Simon was even worse but it seems like these shows just create a gay relationship, make coming-out the plot which creates drama (mostly in a unrealistic or simplistic way) and the result is as „straight-friendly“ as possible.
See, I don’t really get that argument. Should only doctors play doctors on Tv because only they understand it? Should only straight actors play straight characters? Acting is all about being something you’re not.
@@justintaylor3081 Of course, acting is acting, and like I said, both of these actors did a great job portraying gay characters. But often gay actors are only cast in gay roles. Straight actors play gay characters far more often than gay actors play straight characters. So when you're a straight actor playing a gay character, you're taking away that opportunity for a gay actor that doesn't happen as often. But what I was saying was that for this video specifically, when these two are talking about the homophobia they experience, they can't imagine what that would be like if they were actually gay. It just seems a little silly to me to have two straight guys talking about homophobia because it's so much more than just a few messages on social media.
That in itself is a problem. Leads to typecasting gay actors. And I’ve seen a lot of movies led by gay actors and to be quite honest with you the performance was poor. It would have been better to expand to possibly more talented straight actors. Plus at times some actors really are gay but closeted at the time. So by limiting roles to only out gay actors you’re ironically possibly taking roles from other gay actors simply because they’re not out.
@@justintaylor3081 I kinda see where your coming from but also being LGBT is a marginalized identity - when has a doctor ever received hate or death threats for being a doctor. The same goes for disabled characters having able bodied actors playing them. They don't truly understand the margilization and the issues that come because someone as gay as well as not understanding what it's like to be gay. Linking it back to the doctor analogy, someone who's not an doctor doesn't understand what it's like to be a doctor but there's not the additional layer of marginalisation and issues that they don't understand. (Now I'm not totally sure of any of that made sense!)
me listening to george talking without knowing before he was english: 👁👄👁
isn't it strange how only michael, a brown latino, is receiving that much hate and even d*ath threats for being a straight guy playing a gay character and then theres nick robinson (simon) and george sear (benji) who are white and also straight men who did the exact same thing as michael and are not receiving the same treatment? 🙄

I came out shortly after the Love Simon movie. I actually got to see the pre release with Tyler Oakley. But with Love Victor, I truly fell in love with the story. Like many others, I can see myself in the storyline and I really wish I had a show like this when I was younger. I too have faced homophobia and lots of bullying in Elementary, Middle, and High school before I realized I was gay. I was being called gay because I was different. Many years later, I am super proud to say I am a gay man and have found the love of my life. The Love series has changed my life and I want to thank everyone for making people like me, feel comfortable to be apart of the LGBT community and to be happy of who I am.

This show is really lucky that they casted young people who understand the importance of the topics being portrayed on screen. Michael and George are are wonderful allies for the queer community. It's important to have on-screen representation, but you have to choose the best actor for the role, too. Having straight men who understand the importance of a gay role like these two do will help eradicate ignorant homophobia in the future I hope.
I agree 100%. They seem to bit only be superb actors but also very empathetic and thoughtful human beings

Coming from a Mexican family, I came out as gay in the early 2010s and I wish this show could've been made a lot earlier cause that would've played a big role for me to come out. My middle and high school years were confusing as hell.. Watching Victor and seeing how scared he was to come out as gay was like watching myself through him. I know its a show but everything victor went through was similar to how I also went through the same similar thing. People need to realize that all of us Gays were not a disease, we are human beings as well. We bleed the same blood. And when people say "Being Gay is a freaking sin". I respond with "So is drinking alcohol. So is saying a slur word, getting Tattoos, having sex before marriage, so is lying, Cheating, Eating meat is a sin, Etc" I can go on and on. Anyways I love watching Love Victor. We need a season 2 ASAP

In my opinion I thought that the show had too much heterosexual tension considering it was a show for gay representation. I also didn’t like the fact that they based it on coming out as if it’s the only important thing in being gay is coming out (it is one of the important thing). I thought that the actors should’ve educated them selves more on the subject of homophobia before doing the interview. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate them as allies and the show did have good rep (I’m Colombian like victor) but it would’ve been better if they tried to make the show more realistic and considerate for the lgbtq+ community.
And one more thing gay actors never talk about playing straight roles yet somehow only straight actors are asked about playing gay roles. Theirs no difference.

Dailymotion.com which is where I went to see it.
If the people that chose them to play the characters thought they were the best for the job, then I don't have an issue with them being straight. People need to calm down and focus on the story that is being told and judge the accuracy it portrayed/lacked, not the actors telling it.
They may be the best actors to play these roles but that doesn’t make it okay. Excuses like “they are the best actors” or “it’s called acting” only seems to apply to straight actors playing gay or cis actors playing trans. It harkens back to white actors doing yellow face and brown face.
We need actual queer people telling our stories. Too many times had we seen straight and cis gender people playing LGBTQ roles. More of us needs to be in these spaces. Having straight people telling gay stories doesn’t mean it’s actual representation or diversity if our people are not in it. Yes our stories are being told but they excluded us. They are making money off of our stories without us. They are giving straight people our platforms. They are making straight people the face of our community. For a show that celebrates LGBTQ and being released on Pride month, it would’ve been a home run if the actors were gay. But if you want to support straights playing gay and celebrate them, go off sis.
@@ta21l I'm not even going to finish reading that. I've said what I said and I stand by it. No one likes gatekeepers. Actors are payed to portray a role, these actors portrayed theirs wonderfully and that's all that matters. The point of the show got across just fine and LGBT+ actors are NOT entitled to a role just because of their sexual orientation.
Plus, as others have pointed out, it's actually a really stupid idea to require actors to disclose their sexual orientation for a role. Do you even hear yourself?
Go fight a fight that's actually worth it, not this petty hill you're on right now, "sis".
@@ThiannaD it means what it means, there’s nothing more to it. You cannot compare an actor’s race or sex to their sexual orientation because sexual orientation is about behavior towards other human beings, not one’s physical characteristics. Of course a white person can’t portray a character with dark skin without changing their appearance. However, that doesn’t translate into sexual orientation because there’s no way of knowing the actor’s preferences by just looking at them.
I’m glad that there are many LGBT+ characters on screen and I could care less what the actors playing those roles do in their free time. And so should everyone else, it’s none of our business.
@@ThiannaD if that's what you think then that's great for you.
@@ta21l no we don't need! Why is the show overwhelmingly straight when it suppose to be a gay theme show, explain please.
Because that’s how real life is?
Its about figuring sexuality out. Thats why it ends with that happening.
@@YoungButRetro After figuring it out myself the best answer I can think of is that Victor is surrounded by people that love him, not necessary a gay theme or movie but with people that love him, thus the title Love Victor.

Obviously it can't reflect all gay lives.
There are more than enough illustrations and shows and movies that feature extremely over the top gay behaviour and life.
This one represents what most gay people's lives are actually like.
The show was originally made to be on Disney+. If I had to guess, they tried to make a gay show as straight as possible so they could appeal to both liberal and more conservative consumers. Ok y'all, I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the whole "only gay actors play gay roles" thing. For this reason: there should never be a part of casting where a person is forced to disclose their sexuality to get the job.
Is it reasonable to prefer casting only gay people for gay roles, totally. But I think practically speaking (especially for young roles where the people being cast might still be figuring themselves out) it just doesn't work.
They did a fantastic job. They are actors and they were believable.
No one should ever be forced to disclose their sexual orientation or be apologetic for their gender identity. However...queer representation is important within Hollywood! Though something about this interview made me feel cringy and slightly uncomfortable!
I'm not against it either, however out LGBT actors rarely get a foot in the door in Hollywood (at least in front of the camera). When out LGBT actors are playing as many cishet roles as cishets are playing LGBT roles, it'll be more appropriate.
I'm more so strict about the writers themselves being lgbtq. I dont really care if the actors are or not. IT just makes sense that if youre gonna create a show surrounding the community, get a writer that is actually from the community so that our stories/image can be told/portrayed accurately.
@@PTRAINBOY I'm glad you're able to appreciate that. It's certainly relief from all of these assholes on this comment page disparaging straight actors in gay roles.
Yes we Need this Show in Europe ✌🏼
If you have Disney+ then now it is

So... that's why they cast straight actors. So the homophobia doesn't bother them.
Still sucks for all the unemployed gay actors. #castthegays

For him its just some short time of his life. Some people is there life ....
Quit being so damn dramatic dude everyone gets killed and harrased based on their looks and sexuality no ones untouched stop thinking gay and LGBT people are the only ones being bullied for stuff
Benji in this show reminded of my high school crush
Watch out for people you know, they are usually the snakes around you 🐍
"With friends like these..."
Pathetic that American Disney+ wouldn’t put it on their platform
They said it was too "adult"
@@keelwarner231 it was because of another themes, not just gay
And it's going to be part of Disney because of Disney+ STAR
@@y.2439 take a look at the rest of shows/movies in disney+. they also treat other more "adult" themes but they weren't removed

I'm so sorry I was distracted by the cat loooool
I came out to my friend some years ago. It was wonderful and they were all accepting me, I was glad I told it to some people of my age, but then one or two of then spread the information without my consent, don't get me wrong, I'm totally fine with who I am, it's just that she didn't and stil doesn't have the right of doing those kinda things.
With my parents it was, and still is very, very difficult; they found out gay porn on my phone and they screamed, my mother cried (she said that she cried because I told my friend before her, and that I was confused. I know she lied) and my father shouted at me, slapped me and tratened me to be pratically raped by a female escort in order to return "normal". They now ignore the fact that they know I am gay, maybe hoping it was just a phase... Well, it is not.
This show helped me showing me again that the world isn't limited to my family, my school or my home town, there is a brand new world outside, full of sulporting people; this show gave me hope and reminded me that WE are a comunity, we are family.
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I just want to add that you are loved and I'm a 100% positive that you will meet people who love you for who you are and tbh with you, it's the best feeling ever. Much love and blessings being sent your way ❤!
Eccetto, una famigghia di ricchiunazzi
My own coming out was a rather lucky one. My mom and friends accepted me the way I am and my father does too, even tho it was a kinda rough start. My great grandparents told me, that I am the first in our family, which I actually don't believe. Nonetheless, my family is very accepting, except my oldest cousin, who is homophobic. The only positive about him is that he manages to get it under control when I am there and still sorta supporting me. I know not everyone experiences the same kind of outing. Some are getting more homophobic responses and some might even get kicked out. For me it's kinda sad to know that gay isn't considered normal yet. I know we'll get there eventually. But it's gonna be a long way.
I hope you enjoy your day or evening no matter who you are.
Sincerely, Sam
Happy for you! Really happy to hear that your family accepted u as u are. But It's not easy fot everyone. Im bisexual and It's illegal in our country to be a part of LGBTQ+ community. Pray for me.
Good luck for ur future and hope you get a loving and sexy boyfriend like Benji.💖
Did anyone else notice the cat like low-key having a stroke in the background✋🏾..... no one just me ok
It’s very saddening 💔💔
Nobody could have Done it better great job boys loved every minute when is season two love Chris
This show is also now available in Canada on Disney+ and I'm loving it.
Michael and George both seem like super nice people but I have to say I'm a little bored with listening to straight actors being asked to talk about what they consider important issues to the LGBT community...
It's not about sides! I'd rather hear the insightful comments of intelligent allies like Michael Cimino, George Sear or Skam France's Maxence Danet-Fauvel and Axel Auriant speak because the insights they've obtained playing gay characters and in some cases experienced homophobia because of it.
I second this. Sure, they may experience homophobia from a tweet or something, but they don't live and breathe the fear of homophobia every day. They'll never truly understand the fear of holding your romantic partner's hand in public, or showing any display of affection for that matter. They'll never self-monitor and self-moderate the way they walk or talk for fear of getting called a slur or physically attacked. And it's obvious how oblivious Cimino is when being surprised that people he knows made homophobic comments to him. Surprise, people that aren't straight know the greatest threat to their wellbeing are the people closest to them. All it takes is one wrong person to know and it's all over.
@@darkpraxis Very true. I appreciate allies but it's just not very interesting to listen to their experiences when we could have listened to those of an actual gay actor instead. These days it's becoming almost a trend for straight actors to play gay characters, it's not as much a risk anymore as a guaranteed (and rather cheaply acquired) rise in popularity. Meanwhile, most of the time gay actors are still too scared to come out so they don't get to tell the stories they rightfully deserve to tell. Straight actors get easy recognition for telling gay stories while gay actors are afraid of risking their career. IMO, gay stories will always hit differently when they're actually told by gay people.
You can always not watch the video and search for gay actors telling their stories. This is the internet, there's room for everything
@@erikperhs_ and you can always fight the urge to reply something useless to someone you don't agree with. Will save us both time :)
Michael should not have worn that shirt for this interview --- it's so nice and perfect for Victor to wear it to school (or to that cabin).
Season 2 needs to gayer period😉
it's crazy because when i was watching s2 the thought of how brave it is for michael cimino to be playing a character like victor kept constantly crossing my mind, i believe it's mostly because i know what it's like to grow up around hispanic people and how heavily homophobic the majority are (even the ones that claim they are allies sometimes can say offensive things). after reading the title and watching the video, i was sad to hear that he did receive backlash for playing victor, but i can't say i was surprised. i respect actors who play queer characters, especially people who come from an ethnicity other than white. this interview really is evidence for how an experience of playing a queer character is different between a white person and someone who's not.
As much as I love the two actors I wish more gay actors were cast for gay roles. Typically gay actors only get cast for gay roles so they have less of a chance, but on top of that lgbtqia+ fans flock towards the actors of lgbtqia+ representation and being straight, they typically aren’t equipped to be a role model to lgbtqia+ youth, they also get labeled as “brave” for playing these roles and get a lot more recognition. In a perfect world at least 80% of gay representation in media is played by lgbtqia+ actors and it’s kind of sad that it’s less than 5% right now.
When Love, Simon came out I really wanted to watch it I was around 12 years old and my mom said no because it was a movie about being gay. Well I watched for the first time last year and I loved it. And then I watched this show and I liked it too.
Also do I have a story for her. Probably is not gonna be her favorite story.
Please....
There's a 99% chance that this straight actor is manufacturing or at least exaggerating these "homophobic messages from people he knows" to virtue signal.
As a gay man myself, I'm truly sick and tired of this marketing ploy to the LGBT community every time an LGBT movie is made or every time a celebrity comes out.
Actor:"Omg look at all the hate I'm receiving because I was brave enough to take on this role"
Audience: "We're so sorry there are so many hateful people in the world! You're such a hero for enduring this and we looooove you sooooo much! Omg you were brilliant! Don't listen to the haters!"
Actor: "Omg thanks guys. You have nooo idea how much that means to me. Omg I'm so emotional hearing all your stories. Let's start a hashtag to promote the movie, ok?"
Audience: "Omg yes! #LOVEISTHEVICTOR"
Every time....
So, in your opinion, homophobes would never care about a friend playing a gay character? They'll just be completely okay with it?
You must be that type of gay who grew up in a loving and rich family to say this kind of garbage. People get hate only for being friends with gay people sometimes!
@@erikperhs_ Yes, that certainly must be the case. It must be that I grew up in a rich, loving, and completely accepting family to present the argument I just did. Not that I was thrown out in my junior year of high school and alienated by my mother and grandfather for three years.
I'm sure your poorly argued virtue signaling will help these two actors feel more loved and accepted in that ultra-homophobic industry they're making millions in while you feel heartbroken about them having to deal with random internet trolls or "people they know" disapproving of their role.
You're exactly the type of person they're marketing this video towards, hun. Congratulations on being a prime example of my point.
When is season 2 released??
Don't hate straight actors for playing gay characters. It makes 0 sense.
Gay actors that work hard get as many parts as straight actors do. Really.
Me: "Come On Concentrate, Their Making Good Points! Don't Get Distracte-"
CAAAAAAAATTTTT!!!!! AWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!
A straight actor receive receiving homophobic message for playing a gay role? Oh yes let me get my violin out for this kid who can litterally sleep at night knowing outside of playing gay he himself isn't really effected by this foh try actually being gay and having actual representation on & off the screen than we can talk
I said this too. BUT SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE MOFOS IN THE BACK
I still empathize with him, it's not his fault and what happened is not cool. I get the feeling behind this reaction but it's beyond me.
Morgan Freeman said it best: "I hate the word homophobia. A phobia is a fear. You're not scared. You're an @$$hole". And that cat in the background is a crack up!
