This is my heartfelt tribute to a part of my childhood and my adulthood. Inspector Morse was the gateway for a little girl into the ivy-covered walls of Oxford, the world of red Jaguars, crosswords, opera, and, most importantly, loyalty. LEWIS continues this tradition with Lewis and Hathaway finding their way as partners and friends.
This video's purpose is to show the similarities between Morse and Lewis's relationship and Lewis and Hathaway's relationship. Morse's legacy is Lewis and Lewis is passing the torch to Hathaway. Morse will never die so long as someone out there keeps his story alive.
Morse was proud of the man Lewis became over the years. As a man who never married and had no children, the ambitious DS became like a son to the aging DCI. And - to Lewis, Morse became a father-figure after his own father died young. Lewis has become the investigator Morse saw in him so many years ago. Morse saw Lewis as the right man to be his legacy and Lewis allowed Morse to be a part of his life - a friend, a mentor, a father.
And, as history is prone to doing, events repeated. Lewis has a DS of his own - a DS who is an outcast from the rest of the police force, save Lewis. A DS who is in need of someone who will listen to him, be his mentor, and, most importantly, a friend and father. DS Hathaway will be Lewis's legacy, carrying on Morse's maverick spirit.
None of this belongs to me. I just hope anyone who watches this will give the shows and the books a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Thank you, Colin Dexter, for bringing this world to a little girl in America. I am forever grateful.
