Ordered the SC live 2 today. Can’t wait to get started.
Is it good?
I’m a retired DJ, but still enjoy mixing. I also will set my gear up for my own house parties with friends. I think SC 2 is perfect and on sale for $1000. It’s definitely a downgrade from what I have, but it’s smaller, and has built in speakers, Serato is a HUGE plus a $250 value by it self. I’ll definitely spin more at home because I don’t need to haul around my giant JBLs every time I want to practice.

I just got the 2
After 20 years using Pioneer DJ (CDJs, controllers & stand alone units) I decided to jump into Denon world and this week I received my first gear from them, the SC-Live 4. The wifi built in is an amazing feature, specially for someone that uses streaming services (use beatport), also the jog wheels for me are way better than Pioneer jogs.. The mixer it's different and for me not so good as the Pioneer mixers, specially in which concerns to the effects and equalization but, since I've got the unit only for two days, maybe I still didn't have time to use to it. I like the layout of the controller and it's very portable for a 4 channel stand alone. And, the speakers for me it's a really nice add on, specially if you're at home, listening music and do some mixes, when the kids are sleeping and, you don't want to wake them up with your usual speakers turned on. Obviously doesn't replace the quality of normal external speakers but it's very useful! Thanks for the video!
Hey Hugo, thanks for your insights! When you say the jogs are better on the Denon, which Pioneer jogs are you comparing them to?
@@djkit In terms of tension I prefer these than the pioneer jog from XDJ-RX 2 for example which I had one unit for some time.
Okay yea, that's a fair comparison. FYI, the new RX3 has a jog tension knob.

The layout of the mixer / controls is precisely why you would choose this over the Mixstream Pro. The layout of the controls on the MSP are entirely sacrificed to cramming the speakers onto the front, which inevitably cause you to put your arm on the platter/ nudge the pitch etc., with only Engine the saving grace. The Denon has better ergonomics, better speakers and hardware unlock for Serato, which has far better stems than the Prime 4+ will have (when it does eventually make it out of beta). The SC live 4 + 2 are both on the hardware list for Serato stems on the available pads - and 4 pads is enough for Serato stems vocals, melody, bass and drums. With Engine accepting Rekordbox usb, that means this unit can be used standalone, as a Serato controller, or used by Rekordbox DJs. And in many scenarios having the speakers is a godsend, particularly if you are tight on living space.

With engine 3.1 touch effects are superior compared to the hardware effects... you will not miss having any pads at all

@@djkitAfter watching the video I'm thinking the 2. Cause I don't really use 4 channels. Plus the 4 channels on the 7 inch screen seems a little iffy.

Pains me to say this as Ive owned many Denon DJ products over the years but I think Denon dropped the ball on this. Is the SC live 2 really $400 better than Numarks Mixstream?
Get the Live 4 my friend. Only 200 bucks more, only slightly bigger (4cm) and heavier (1.2kg). But next to the 4 channels you get those handy jog displays, 8 RGB pads, Slicer, Aux, Booth and 2nd Mic. Denon castrated the Live2 a bit too much for my liking.
It's amazing what you can do with the Mixstream thanks to Engine OS, but the controls are cramped and you can make mistakes as a result. The speakers are tinny and a waste of space which prevent a sensible layout, specifically 8 pads and longer pitch slider.
Hi next week I’m planning to make a purchase I’m very indecisive because I’m not sure what to go for. I’m thinking of Rane one, Rx3, XZ or denon live 4.
They're all very different controllers!
Curious to see how stems serato can be implemented on this and its capabilities on this system.The advantage here is having subscription options for unlimited tracks versus the rane 4 that has more stems features yet will not be able to get subscription to unlimited tracks through wifi.
Sc4 live is serato compatible, us in PC mode with serato, map stems to whatever performance pads section you want and enjoy!

Is the hard button response mentioned a drawback?
Just upgrade from ddj400 to sc live 4 and can’t be more satisfied, I’m really impressed with this standalone, on live 4 if you press shift+deck will change the viewer for 2 decks
Is your rekordbox music working on the denon sc live 4? How does it work?
Rekordbox doesn't work on these controllers @larsvanderflier
rekordbox analyzed usbss should work with all devices running ENGINE OS, did they change something for those controller's?@@djkit
i still confuse. shoud i upgrade my gear denon sc 2 live or numark mixtream pro. i use DDJ400 before.
OK, everybody knows 2vs4 channels outcome in mixing. But does it really works in 2023/2024 decade? We also know that SC4 has add on effect pads in STEAM mode when having Serato Pro? And the main question: do we have really proper working online music services in it's full software potencial when it was lately announced: Amazon music, and etc.?

Good video! I ordered the Live 4 btw. Similar price and size like the P2. But finally with SweepFX and full Serato Pro support, both things I had always missed. Plus speakers and that nice mixer section on top of that! I am a bit nervous about those "hard" buttons, but I will see, lol. As for your other question, these units do not replace the Prime units, at least not the Go and P4. And I think the pricing on the Live 4 is very competitive now. A crappy XDJ-RR is about the same price, and the RX2/RX3 are much more expensive, while they can do far less. The Prime 4 is hard to get and very heavy, too.

Would you recommend the SC Live 2? I don’t think I really need 4 channels but it’s only like £150 price difference to get the extra channels, screen on jog wheels plus additional pads…
Having said that do you think those extras really matter if I just want two channels?
They're both good units. The in jog displays are nice but not essential. The extra pads are really good IF you use pads a lot, which not everyone does.
I have the mixstream. I think the live 4 would be my next kit whenever I can afford it. Live 2 just seems the same as what I have with the mixstream.
If I didn't have the mixstream tho I wouldn't mind getting the live 2.
This is pretty much bang on. No brainer to step up to the 4 channel IMO!

Can traktor software integrate with this unit?
SC Live 2 or the Mixstream Pro is my headache right now. What does the SC Live 2 give you that the Mixstream doesnt, for the extra money? Are the speakers better? Is anything better other than the tilted screen lol!
The club style mixer layout makes the difference over the Mixstream Pro, but that's just my opinion!
@@djkit thanks for the reply so my next question... the DDJ-800 is coming back in stock this month in the UK. I really like the look of this, reminds me of an RX2 without the screen (which I definitely don't require). SC Live 2 or DDJ-800?
Mate they are two completely different beasts. It's not just about having a screen or not, it's the standalone capabilities. The DDJ-800 requires a laptop with Rekordbox, but the SC Live 2 can be used either standalone mode with streaming, or USBs / SD card, or with a laptop using Serato.

I really don't get these new SC live standalone controllers over the Primes. I think the wasted space from the inbuilt speakers was a bad idea and has made it look like a numark rip off. They could have not put these in and given a larger screen and more real estate to other controls ie move everything up to have bigger and better pads proper beat grid controls. I just think they look very cheap for gear priced between £800 - £1200. I do like the engine software on board by far the best and most powerful standalone software out there. The mixer section looks a lot better a bit more industry standard. But on the flip to that I always loved how Denon did it differently and tried to innovate not copy. I have always found Denon for me far better than Pioneer I really don't like pioneer gear myself. But if this is the way Denon are going they may as well just be Numark and scrap the Denon name because these look just like a Numark standalone with a Denon sticker on them.

First of all Big ups and Thank you for making this video. But I wonder why denon Dj DOWNGRADED there units so much. I love my denon dj Prime 2 console. And i was very excited to hear that Denon dj bring out 2 new units but why i have the feelings these are made by aliexpress they look sooo cheap. and my Prime 2 has Much more features then the 2 new units for example the i have my own logo in my jog wheels. I'm very very disappointed in DENON DJ NOW !!

These 2 units don't replace the Primes. That's a different line altogether. I'm sure they will release an updated version of the Prime 2 in the near future. If you look at these 2 closely, you'll see they're just reworks of the Numark controllers. This is Denon's entry level gear, and the Prime series is pro gear.
Perhaps the Prime are still to have their replacement, and this is just another product on Denon Layout? Imagine you don't have you Prime 2 and you wanted to buy a standalone unit. The Pioneer SX3 is almost 2800€ you have Numark at 600€ and now the SC live 2 at 1099€. I believe there will be a Prime 2 (MK2) untill the summer and targeted to diferent kind of DJing.

Prime 2 doesn't have: (compared to Live 2)
1. Sweep FX section (especially, it does not have a Wash effect. or DubEcho)
2. Wifi chip 5.th gen. (Faster, more stable internet connection)
3. Mic. Noise Gate function (adjustable on menu)
4. Mic send to headphone.
5. Amazon Music streaming
6. Better quality Alps channel faders.
7. Better, bigger Loop Encoders.
8. Significant track info capability on Jog display.
9. Dedicated Lighting and menu buttons) (Most used buttons).
10. Internal speakers (2 pair loudspeakers) 2 x 23W RMS amplifier from Texas Instruments), for monitoring or practice.
11. Bigger - lighter Jogwheel, Better for scratch.
12. Better placement of important buttons, especially the VIEW button, which is larger, more solid. It will definitely last
physically longer, than the View button on Prime 2 or Prime 4.
13. Better CUE/PLAY construction. More solid.
14. In my opinion, much better Layout.
SC Live 2 only doesn't have: (compared to Prime 2)
1. Aux Input
2. Eight physical (touch sensitive Akai style) performance Pads (SC Live only 4 physical pads)
3. Slicer feature.
4. Booth Output
5. RJ45 (LAN output)
6. SATA3 bay
7. Ability to display artwork on jog screen.
All other functions, features, capabilities are exactly the same on both models!
It is incomprehensible what "much more functions" you write about on the Prime 2, compared to Live 2 model.
No stems on board with engine dj, only with serato and a laptop, too bad for a standalone. Already outdated
