I live near the Navajo Nation and recently discovered a book about their astronomy. One story that I remember is about a winter constellation called the great snake. When the snake is in the sky, it is not on the earth. When you cannot see that constellation, you must be careful not to encounter snakes on the earth. How practical.
Wow! A quick search did not give me the cover of my book. Many more sources are available now. Mine was from an educational institution ...sorry so vague, it has been a while since I first read it. Give me a moment to locate it.

Christopher, you may be just the right person to tell this to... I am finding parallels between the ancient Chinese civilization and that of ancient Bharat or Hindu civilization. I believe they were both informing each other for way much longer than today's Historians are prepared to accept.

So each animal could also correspond with a western astrological sign eg Rat is Sagittarius Ox is Capricorn Tiger Aquarius Rabbit Pisces Dragon Aries Snake Taurus Horse Gemini Goat Cancer Monkey Leo Rooster Virgo Dog Libra and Pig Scorpio.
I just heard a lecture from Kepler College about the year of the wood dragon this Saturday. She said that the dragon corresponded to the sign of Leo... I think mostly because of its character traits. I wonder which one it's supposed to be. This is a mystery to be solved. Haha

Brilliant as always, Christopher! 👏👏👏 You really helped me connect the dots with regard to many things that are taken for granted in Jyoteesh / Vedic astrology regarding China. For example: in Vedic astrology, each planet correlates to a particular “nation”….but it’s more like “culture” not nation-state exactly. In that system, Jupiter is for China. And now what you just shared gets me to see that that Vedic logic makes perfect sense then! Also, we have a correlation between Vedic and Chinese with the Big Dipper. In Vedic, it’s called “SaptRishi Mandal” (Seven Sages) and each sage has certain jurisdictions on the 28 Nakshatras…lay Indians count 27, 28th one is for timing …usually used by governments & by lay people after consult with a pro. Now, here’s another biggie on the dragons 🐉…We (Indians) refer to them as Nagas - deified mythic serpents that guard treasure AND are responsible for fresh water. 💦 💧 If someone has water problems, the remedy usually involves donating something to a Naga temple or doing some penance there. Here’s another interesting thing: that “yellow dragon”, that’s the very one that the Chinese are encroaching on Indian territory over! 35:54 you see now? This is why they say “south has 2”. Nope, actually they have the red one, we Indians have the yellow one…they just keep trying to claim it! 😂 not to get political lol 😂 but maybe I just did. On the Elements: Vedic cosmology also counts 5 - fire, earth, Aerther / space the stuff between stuff, Air and Water. We also have a different more esoteric system of “8 elements”….but it’s not really elements, it’s called AsthaVasu which means “8 (ashth) in dwellers(vaasu)” which also has this “rock paper scissor” thing going….sorta…not quite. Fire dwells in Earth Sun dwells in Sky Water dwells in Air Stars dwell in Space (I may be off on some of those ☝️…different old books split them up differently) regardless they are supposed to be “in dwelling” like the Russian maitriyoshka dolls. Thank you, Chris! I was born the year of the Fire Dragon (‘76) and my natal Jupiter return happens in my 10th house, late May. Many people who follow Chinese astrology have said it’s “bad luck” as an adult when you have this 12-year cycle. I’m remaining optimistic. ;) I live in the Southeast part of the U.S., but have two business trips scheduled this spring to the Southwest (LA & Vegas).
