Idk it's got it's fair share of acclaim, if you know the band you probably know the song. It's not Wonderwall levels or anything but the most popular song is rarely the bands best. Nirvana is almost solely known for Teen Spirit, Blur for Song 2, and Oasis for Wonderwall. It's just the way it is.

Ok, lets get a little deep for a second boys. When you think about it, this is a song of desperation. Noel wrote it from a perspective of a guy (maybe himself) begging a girl to just slide away with him from society. He tells her of the wonders they could experience - chasing the sun and begs 'let me be the one who shines with you'. Noel gets pretty emosional when performing this live, as he knows in all reality, its impossible for them to slide away - it just wont happen. But still he dreams - he pleads, he fucking screams out of desperation ... Slide Away!
That's... actually kind of sad.

Bit of trivia: Noel wrote this song on a guitar given to him by the Smiths - Johnny Marr. Marr wrote "Panic" on this guitar which uses a slide guitar technique, hence "Slide away".

Actually a great romantic song. Noel was once asked if it was, and he refused to answer. Sometimes songs take us where we want to go, or always are, but where others can't be.
