In FTM, click on the Publish tab at the top of the program, click Person Reports from the left, and then look for the Data Error report option on the right.
I've been using Family Tree Maker for about 20 years, as well as a couple of other programs. With assistance, I stopped at 47 generations, to 386 AD. With links through Charlemagne, to 3317 BC in Ireland.
Fantastic! Christy Callum does a great job in very clearly explaining some issues with syncing your tree. The options were very helpful! I kept getting an error when syncing. After watching this video, and I checked all of the details she explains, It synched just fine! Whew! Thank you Christy!!
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a way to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly lost my login password. I love any tricks you can give me.
@Kai Simon i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Myrtha - You may already know this now but below the video, there is a little button that says "CC". Click this and subtitles will display on top of the video.
It depends on the upload/download speed of your internet connection. I make loads of changes all week long and then sync once a week and it works just fine for me. (~Crista)
I currently am running win 10 and updated FTM 2019, and chose NOT to sync them together with my tree on Ancestry. I TRIED it, and was a disaster! after the Synced them, Ancestry came up with doubles of EVERYTHING, and with over 30,000 people, it took me over TWO yrs to unattach it all and I still am running into deleting doubles on ancestry.
Hello Donna, thanks for your message, we're so sorry to hear this, we can imagine how frustrating this must have been. While Family Tree Maker is owned by another company, we can still assist you with any duplicates that appear in your family tree on Ancestry. We understand that it can be a time consuming process, so you might be best to try another sync or create a copy of the tree instead. However, please do try this guide for some help with removing any immediate duplicates that you come across: support.ancestry.com/s/article/How-to-Avoid-Creating-Duplicates-in-a-Tree. We really hope this can help, but please do refer to our Support Center if you need some more assistance: support.ancestry.com/s/article/US-Using-Ancestry-Support. Good luck! 🌳
Hi Chris, we no longer provide customer support for Family Tree Maker since it was bought by the MacKiev software company. You can still use FTM in conjunction with Ancestry for your family history research. If you have any questions or issues regarding FTM you can contact them via chat here, support.mackiev.com/597357-Live-Chat-Service
Hi Christy. I am using FTM 2019 but I find that every now and again all my media (photos etc) are no longer attached to the person I am looking at. If I click on their photo it shows me the window with 'Family Treee Maker cannot find this file: etc. I caneither select to do a manual search or 'Let Family Tree Maker search for this file. If I click on the latter one and click OK it will find it. Is 5there anything I can do so save going through every person individually and just do the search for ALL persons in one hit? Your help would be most welcome as the way I am doing it takes ages.
My family tree and all genealogy research is currently on Ancestry. I would like to preserve a local backup copy. If I purchase Family Tree Maker by Mackiev, will I be able to create a local backup copy, independent of Ancestry?
Thanks for stopping by, Betsy. We regret any misunderstandings as Family Tree Maker has not been owned or supported by Ancestry since 2016, even if the latest versions do sync with our program. We can recommend to reach out to the new owner, MacKiev for advise on their software and details on which options they have in regards to backups. You can learn more here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Family-Tree-Maker-FAQ. You may also consider downloading a copy of your Ancestry family tree as a GEDCOM file. This is a standard format for family tree data which would include only text. You can learn more about this option here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Uploading-and-Downloading-Trees. Many thanks for being a valued Ancestry member. We hope this is helpful!
I have a question I cannot find the answer to anywhere. I have a family that I have the male being the son of a certain person. Turns out he is the grandson - I have his father on the tree. How do I transfer that family to the correct person?
Anyone have any tips for a not syncing properly error coming to me when trying sync with ancestry? Just called 800 number and they said they can't help so you can update this video.
Family Tree Maker is now owned by Software Mackiev. The only version that syncs with Ancestry at this time is FTM 2019. If you are using FTM 2019, you can access their support services here: www.mackiev.com/techsupport/ftm/livechat.html
You are wonderful, but Family Tree Maker will not sync for me no matter what I do. I’ve asked FTM developers for help numerous times over the years, but received no useful help. I would love to hire you to figure out my problem. Is that a possibility? I am a little disappointed that I will probably be forced to learn a new Genealogy Program. Thank you.
Is there a way to sync a family tree to more than one account? I have a sister who would like the tree I have been working on for 12+ yrs so she can add her Adoptive family's information. HELP Plz :)
You would be getting FTM 2014 and you should have no problem transferring your files from 2008. (That said, whenever you're migrating anything make sure you create a back up first. Safety first.) :-) Once you get FTM 2014, you will have the autosync features described. If you run into any trouble or have questions our Member Services team can help. 1-800-ANCESTRY Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
i bought the FTM, found a ton of info on my family with Ancestry and FTM. now its not syncing even though it did the first few times. I have checked everything they suggest but if I I unlink the tree - does that mean I have lost all my information?
If you have made changes since your last successful sync, you may lose some of that information. But, all information entered prior to your last successful sync should be fine.
We're sorry you've found that to be blurry, Jeri. We're always keen to hear any feedback, if you'd like to provide any suggestions for feedback to us, please do so on the Ancestry website: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Providing-Feedback-About-Ancestry. We do appreciate this, have a good day!

No, unfortunately. However, you can download the free Ancestry app available in the app store and download your tree on the Kindle.
I have been using Ancestry & Family Tree Maker for a week, and love them. Thank you for your tutorials.
I enjoyed the video presentation. If people only want to see bullet points then maybe they should just read the manual. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
So exciting!! You sold me on Family Tree Maker. Thanks for your wonderful presentations!!
I just started using it and have found it so user-friendly, even without reading directions. Forest Gump simple and straightforward. I like it.
Myrtha - You may already know this now but below the video, there is a little button that says "CC". Click this and subtitles will display on top of the video.
I recommend that you sync often. I sync about every 10 minutes, I have got a lot of errors when trying to sync a lot of changes.

Not that I'm aware of BUT you can load the Ancestry onto a tablet or iPad and then access your family tree from it.
Just downloaded FTM today and downloaded my online tree. Where is the link to the Data Error video so I can check for errors?

great video. I just installed FTM and will look for other helpful videos.
I don't understand. If FTM is no longer supported by Ancestry as you say in a comment, since 2016, does that mean it won't work?
