I hope this album gets people to listen to her Christmas EP. All of the original songs there are SO GOOD and “is it new years yet” has the potential to be a New Year’s Eve anthem.
god i completely forgot about Fruitcake. the pace at which shes pushing out quality pop albums is crazy
I’m torn! I’ve never heard it but do I want to listen to Christmas music in August 🫣.
I was literally listening to "Is it New year's yet" before the album came out lol
can’t wait to listen to ‘is it new years yet’ again this year, and wallow in my singleness 😍😍😍
Juno and Good Graces are THOSE girls. My favorite songs from the album.
Pitchfork gave her album an 8 and ppl were rioting in the pop threads on Reddit. Many were saying it didn't deserve a high rating esp when they gave HMSAH and TTPD lower ratings but were “better”. Fans were also upset it got a similar score to Olivia’s Guts. You honestly can't compare any of the albums because their lyrical content and production are all different and the way they execute it varies between each album.
I do think them giving it an 8 makes sense. The aim and purpose for this album is to be carefree, unseriousness, and fun. It's not meant to be taken seriously or to be this thought provoking album that will change lives. This albums did what it was meant to do. Sometimes, music is just meant to be fun and that's what this album did. This album may not be critically acclaimed or be an impactful album for years to come but it is a cohesive album that is fun for now.
Edit: for more clarification lol
Yeah an 8 is a fantastic score and not everything needs to be a solid 10. I immediately loved the album when I first listened to it too, but people really gotta chill
@@Mtv20O1 I feel like it’s a fair rating, i would think people are up in arms bc they probably feel like other releases this year also deserved a decent score? Like nothing to do w Sabrina, you just never know what mood the pitchfork writers are gonna be in when it’s time to rate lmao
@@naomi.cannibal yes agree! ppl were getting mad the other releases like TTPD and HMSAH deserved higher ratings and were mad that Sabrina got a higher score than the two. I take pitchfork ratings with a grain of salt cause like you said you never know what to expect, lol.
wait i thought people would be mad that it’s too high… it’s too LOW? does no one understanding how ratings work? a 10 is a masterpiece.
@@Sylpphire Completely agree!! I edited my comment but ppl were mad it got a high rating. They believe she deserved a lower rating.
I love the background, it's gorgeous.
I really like Sabrina, she kinda reminds me the pop girls from the 00's, great style and she has a sweet voice, catchy songs. I like the vibe of this era.
@@dinasilva9263 I agree! Also cool to see her have her moment after so long, love seeing the ex Disney girls actually get to have the career they wanted
She definitely gives off that late 90s/2000s blonde pop girlie vibes and I’m all for it. I remember hearing someone say that she channels the early Britney/Xtina vibes and I can totally see it
Sabrina stated in an interview that all the songs on the album are inspired by her own experiences EXCEPT don't smile which is inspired by a friend's experiences
I didn't love this quite as much as I absolutely loved EICS, but this was still such a damn great project from Sabrina! She really blends in well with every genre she indulges here from Pop to Pop-Rock to Country to R&B, and as usual, the lyrics range from absolutely unhinged and unserious in the best possible way to really deep and introspective! It's going to be a MASSIVE commercial success for her and I love it!
My Top 3 (Excluding singles) are Bed Chem, Juno, and Don't Smile (Good Graces is close too)! 😊
bed chem, juno and coincidence are my favorites. I like the retro 70s aesthetic and sound.
Juno has solidified itself as my favorite song of all time. This song took a hold on me in a way no other has ever did. It really makes me want to dance and cry at the same time because it’s so fun and upbeat and playful and reminds me of my teenage years, it has really funny and creative lyrics and that production is just eargasm. Bonus points for that amazing instrumental brake with the guitar going crazy
I'd suggest looking into Carly Rae Jepsen's music if you haven't already, especially the Emotion album. The "you make me want to make you fall in love" parts of Juno are so Carly-coded it's wild.
2:42 this is also a reference to one of the movies the video is referencing, Death Becomes Her. The leads are trying to kill each other but can’t since they drank immortality/eternal youth potion.
@@naomi.cannibalcan you do a review when your done watching it please please please 🙏🏾
@@naomi.cannibal that’s awesome, I hope you enjoy it. The video is also filled with a lot of other movie references that are worth checking out too😍
I really need an Aribrina remix for good graces, hoping thats a future single
I can’t even pick top 3 from this album it keeps changing with every listen
I felt the exact same about Juno! The second I heard it I immediately imagined it being on a soundtrack for a summer romance, coming of age movie in the 80s or something. I could totally see it in a summer musical too! It's such a beautiful song
I really like your style of describing the songs instead of reacting, you got to listen and process the songs before talking about them, :) I love Sabrina, can't wait for her tour
Her in this album, give me if Kacey Musgraves and Gwen Stefani collaborated on a project. And I mean that in the best way, cause I love both of them as well as Sabrina
Video idea: who are the musical parents of gen z artists (example: Sabrina, mix of Ariana and Taylor)
Sabrina is Ari and Katy fs. Like Sabrina and Katy both had the coquette image, vapid and fun songs, girly persona. Ari just bc nonsense sounds like an Ari song
Sabrina is Ariana daughter
Dua lipa is Katy Perry daughter
Olivia is Taylor daughter
Billie is Lana daughter
All of these are my oppinion you can also have different opinions,🫶🫶🫶
Sis your commentary is always just on fkn point. What you said about Juno and its unique screenplay, maam YES!
Comparison that I haven’t seen anyone else make yet is that the verse of good graces sounds so much like hold it against me by Britney, the tune of the lyrics is almost the exact same
When I love you, I’m sweet like an angel / Hey, over there please forgive me
Drawing hearts round our names / if I’m coming on too strong
And dreaming of writing vows, rocking cradles / hate to stare but you’re winning
And I LOVE it lmao girl is in her pop BAG
@@jenjenbeingbored omggggg I’ve been thinking this!! But i think of the “I might be a little hazy but you just cannot deny” part! I feel so weirdly validated lol
this album and emails I can't send go hand in hand for me
On slim pickins. It’s subtle but I love how she says I’ll be “moaning and b****in” which is an inversion of “b*****in and moaning”. By flipping it, I feel like she’s saying She’ll be moaning… but then complaining about the guys who make her moan afterwards.
Man you develop an appreciation for her voice over time it's such a grower
I just listened to this album this morning, and yeah you can hear the Ariana influence in Sabrina on certain songs 🤷🏾♀️.
@@nicolesherman8974 Someone said Ariana lent Sabrina her ponytail for Good Graces 😭😭
I disagree she gives off country vibes. But they share the same vocal coach
I feel like Sabrina has always had a couple songs in her past albums that are Ariana coded. Nonsense maybe?
The bluegrass sound of Slim Pickins is my favorite
Sharpest Tool is my favorite so far off the album! I understand feeling overstimulated though, particularly once the 2nd verse comes in with the filtered vocals. I can tell Jack Antonoff was having so much fun in the studio producing this.
I remember discovering Sabrina Carpenter in 2017 and thought Thumbs was a good song. I've followed her music for years and the first time I thought "This is who Sabrina is" was when she released Fast Times. Very cutesy, very demure single and I'm happy where she's at now!
I've been playing this album over and over all week. No skips but my #1 favorite is Don't Smile. Instrumentally it's gorgeous and her adlibs & background vocals showcase range. She really won me over.
This album is definitely growing on me. I didn't like Taste but I am getting it stuck in my head all the time. I love Good Graces, it gives me girl group vibes, I could see her doing some heavy choreo to it. Sharpest Tool starts slow but when that sparkle hits, it's definitely 🤯 it gives me Frou Frou. Juno is really cute and I bet it'll take off, 00s nostalgia is in so a Juno inspired mv would be huge.
Okay I had mixed thoughts at first bcz I never listened to country so obv I was taken aback. I actually love the album. And it’s perfect timing that u put out the video when I 100% am at peace with it haha
I am a Ballads and lyrics girlie, but Sabrina’s album felt like stand up comedy specially with “Sharpest Tool” and “Coincidence” the LaLaLas; her imagery; her vocal delivery all made me chuckle so hard. Good Graces/bed chem had good lines like the camaraderie and the athlete line. The athlete line is specially brutal given how much guys STAN their favorite athletes, it’s soooo obsessive; imagine their favorite athlete gushing over their ex?!?!?! Insane line
Taste 🎶 has a vibe of I touch Myself by Divinyls & Bed Chem has a vibe of Tamia - Into you 🎶
Another Taurus queen added to my representation roster AYYYYY🤣🤣🤣 "never found god at your ex's house" is SO FUCKING REAL LIKE I LITERALLY SCREAMED 😩
not the video being almost as long as the album😭😭😭
I would pick Juno as the fourth single! The hook is so infectious
Short n Sweet is my AOTY and you are my TH-camr of the century. So glad that I found your channel.❤
The video I've been waiting for!! 😊
Another great video, Naomi! I really like Sabrina’s album “Short n’ Sweet.” I enjoy the nostalgia and newer elements of the album. Yes, “Good Graces” must be the fourth single👏🏾🥳!
Juno!! 💖❣ also rlly like taste
This album was such a solid follow up from EICS and I'm genuinely happy about it. We pretty much have the same top 5! If we get one more MV for this era, I hope it's *Bed Chem* or *Juno*
I've been waiting for this ❤
hey naomi! i really love the tapestry being more in focus, i think its adds a little umph and was a nice surprise. 😊
I came across a comment online that said Sabrina Carpenter is Dolly Parton meets Ariana Grande, which seems fair!
omg thank you for telling me what that little cindy lauper moment was reminding me of!
Have you heard the bonus track, needless to say? It’s def one of my favs off the album
luvved this- i had a lot of moments of comparing melodies on here to other tracks. the one that stuck w me is how the strings(?) on "dont smile" sounded a bit like "dreaming of you" by selena hehe
You are so stunning fr fr, I think that every time I watch your videos! I really enjoy your commentary
you have a good ear! i loved when you called out and appreciated 80s synth pop influence. my favorite style
Doesn't "Taste" have a sample from a song in the 90's? The video is a homage to the amazing movie Death Become Her and I love it. My man asked me if Sabrina was a country singer lol.
I ain’t go lie, it was definitely short and sweet. It won’t be in my library however I understand why some ppl might keep this album in rotation
I looked up the Cyndi lauper credits too because I was sure it was a sample lol
Bed Chem sounds like ovulating feels 🔥
You're analysis is amazing!
I absolutely adore this album!! Still not tired of espresso, it has been my obsession since it dropped 😅 This album exceeded my expectations and I really love it. I am super proud of her!
i was expecting her to get more fun and goofy cuz it got the potential in nonsense so coming from eics being an emotional rollercoaster ride, we got short n sweet which is fun and exciting 😚🙌🏼
Lovedddddd this album. I can definitely see bits of influence from some bigger artists but the album very much is her own unique style - especially lyrically with some of the clever, funnier lyrics. We saw it in the singles, but it's there all through the album and it's genius.
What an amazing reaction! Thank you.
One of yall couldn’t put time stamps? smh
I have felt Sabrina reminded me of Christina Aguilera since I first heard Emails I Can't , the album. Same holds true for Short
and Sweet even a bit more !
Gurllll… You should watch DEATH BECOMES HER. That’s the reference. Great movie!
mr president she kept the wave tapestry
we have the same top 5!
put the lego version of the great wave art in the back it slays
You look stunning and I hope you doing well 🫶🏾
Want a deluxe edition, I think that we have some months. From Brazil.
ok random comment but like I love the tapestry but specifically only bc the way it like waves in the background like a flag from the fan /wind makes your videos feel so cozy like we’re just chillin in ur room talking if that makes sense? Lmao so IMO it could be any tapestry idk if anyone agrees or not
I took Juno too seriously when I first heard it. I was like 😑. But now I love it! I like the country elements when they showed up in the album. I would follow her into the country genre.
Juno might also be a reference to the goddess Juno instead of just the movie
Let’s give Sabrina flowers first bringing back the art of music videos
Ohhh Naomi you look GOODTTTTT
We have the same top 5 in a different order!
I'M SOO PROUD OF SABRINA CARPENTER... I'M A FAN SINCE DISNEY AND SEEING HER NOW SLAYING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS MAKE ME HAPPY...
I LOVE "SHORT & SWEET" BUT THE ALBUM IS TOO SHORT TO MY LIKING ! HERE'S MY FAVES
1- ESPRESSO
2- GOOD GRACE
3- PLEASE please please
4- JUNO
5- TASTE
The music video made me love “Taste.” The horror references are great and the video’s so fun. I was hoping the rest of the music would lean more towards “Espresso” personally, I don’t like the country tinge most of the songs on the album have. Her voice is beautiful, but all the sliding around in notes is why I don’t like country music - feels overstimulating to me.
i loveee this !!!!😊
not even gonna lie i haven't seen juno so it wasn't on my radar, i thought it was like hera/juno being the goddess of marriage, like she was like "u can wife me up 😌"
Where is the Chloe album review??! 🤨🤨
There’s a few songs in the album that sound like things I’ve heard before.
The songs sound like they're about Joshua Basset. He's obsessed with therapy and meditating and recently found God/Jesus and Olivia had a song about hooking up with her ex in Guts.
I'm guessing that Sabrina's description of the album being about how sometimes the shortest relationships have the biggest impact it's probably a mix of both
Please don’t tell me I’m the only one who boo-hoo cries to please please please????
the whole album is good imo but the only songs that i didn’t vibe to is dumb and poetic, coincidence and lie to girls. kinda wish that she replaces it with fun and poppy song
or a sad song with poppy tune like please please please
i’m gonna rate it 8/10
I hope y’all know what movie she’s reference this -- it’s on TH-cam ❤❤
I'M SORRY BUT ALBUM LIKE
1-SHORT 'N SWEET
2-HIT ME HARD 'N SOFT
3-QUANTUM BABY
HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, THEY REALLY GOOD BUT THE TOOO SHORT 😅
Sabrina sounds like the KPOP star IU. If you listen to IU’s song BIBBI you can hear the same cadence. I think it’s just me though…
emails I can't send is way better. (in my opinion)
I agree. I like sabrina’s playfulness but on some songs it’s a bit too much for me and is kinda cringe (no shade) but I think this album will grow on me over time
It honestly baffles me how y’all don’t be doing research like girly pop if you’re gonna make the video….. THEN MAKE THE DAMN VIDEO.
Hearing please x3 and espresso EVERYWHERE had me fed up so I didn’t even bother giving her album a chance lol
first!
I love sabrina and espresso is the ultimate summer theme of the year but for me sabrina should not compete to pretty girls as theme. Shr can sing about love happiness and hearthbreak but avoid pretty girls love triangle its a battle that she could not win for all the obvious reason. Shes not a throphy type of girlfriend. Berry short chubby bodied. Fetishistic man will love her
It was mid for me, I've listened to it 3 times now and I have 5 of the 12 songs liked. I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Juno lol. I'll try and give it another chance 🫠
the video length being only 3 minutes shorter than the actual album length time is sending me 😭
@@happinessD I was ready for someone to comment on this lol… I just had a lot of thoughts and wanted to talk about the videos & production too 😭
