Courtyard Garden Home | Semi-D House Transformation | Wood on Wood | House Tour | Interior Design

- Welcome to DESIGN SEED!
In minimalist white, a huge compound stands bordered by vertical lines of wooden slats. At closer look, it is actually two separate semi-D units with adjoining courtyards. The wall between them was taken down and the courtyards connected with a composition of wooden slats. Hidden within is a fascinating space designed to connect two families.
Today, we showcase a 3200 sq ft property designed around a connecting courtyard with its very own garden view. This artistic masterpiece is designed by S/LAB10, a design practice based in Sydney, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
This is a story of two houses and two families, and it begins with the connecting courtyard.

Why do you think so? I'm pretty sure they've thought about security and crime in JB is not that bad
Hmm, not sure about this approach. Maybe it’s perfect for the "rich people's taste and lifestyle"? I mean, it's basically just timber slat walls and roofs connecting two properties-super groundbreaking stuff, right? The whole design feels so warm and inviting... oh wait, no, it's actually cold and soulless despite all the timber finishes. They’re clearly aiming for a seamless, simple interior, but sure, let’s add a million hidden doors and cabinets on every wall. Super practical!
And the kitchen? Genius idea to hide it way in the back. I can already picture myself hauling dishes all the way through an awkwardly shaped bar, the dining area, and finally reaching the "communal space." Half the house just to serve some food-unless, of course, you’re smart and order KFC or Pizza Hut. Problem solved, right?
Oh, and natural lighting? Yeah, just throw a communal space in the middle and cross your fingers. Who needs daylight when you can live under artificial lights 24/7? Honestly, it feels less like a house and more like a display unit.
But hey, that’s just me. Everyone has their taste, and apparently, this luxury icebox just isn’t mine. Form over function, I guess.
love the way you designed and built my dream home. the videos you share are so soothing and engaging. you are awesome! thanks!
Thank you 🤩🤩😋😍
Doesn’t seems to comply with semi-d boundaries setback regulations
I like it
But too much wood
and too much brown
I think the house will look better with Roman pillars as you Malaysians love them.
I think the renovation is spectacular. I like how so many Malaysian upscale homes use wooden slats. I also love the speckled terraza stone . However I didn’t understand what I assume was the kitchen area. Everything was hidden behind doors which is a design decision. But was the only counter space the little bit with the curved end?
I enjoyed this one. My brother and I have a similar courtyard that is 6m in width. The houses in the Philippines are required to have a 2m setback from each property line so we would have 4m (it usually becomes a service alley) of wasted space if my brother and I decided to build a wall. So instead, we will build a shared courtyard and we gave up 1m each to complete a 6m width. It will be our shared outdoor area for bbqs, children to run around in, and for bigger gatherings when the outdoor wearher is nice.
Its going to be worth it! Im glad you enjoyed!
Hello. Also have a brother with adjoining lots. Currently in process of designing houses on those lots. Liie u, we want to have a common space where our kids can play. Hope u can share the architect who designed your house. Hoping for your kind response. -john
Beautiful Space that has a minimal yet classy design.. a bit too much of Terrazzo but ok
Here in the U.S. (Florida) they started building homes called “next generation) about 4 years ago. It’s definitely NOT this type of build. This is beautiful!!
Love your contents 👍
Thank you keisham! Sincerely appreciate ur support!❤
Let me do some sketches on this project! Stay tuned haha ❤ great job guys!
Cant wait!!
If the tree is a bit bigger it would be nicer.
beautiful❤
Liking obvious natural element showing in material, color and lighting.
Can’t wait for next one !
Man, I don't envy the Kakak who will have to dust and wipe all those wooden panels and mirrors. . Not too sure about the colour temperature of those white walls in a tropical context. Something also feels quite odd with the base of the wall without the baseboard. It works with natural cement/concrete wall, but yeah if you see on the 8th minute, that wall is a bit uneven. Perhaps it could only work on prefabricated walls, but since the concept is minimalist, all the little details stand out so much.
Exactly my thought , cleaning on a tropical climate is a big issue . Unless you appoint a maid to clean , most of your day will be spend on cleaning the walls.
The same with the usage of mirrors , on tropical regions , the sun is harsh and a mirror will only make you feel worse , even if you manage to diffuse the hell of the light hitting your room .
All of those will compound as soon as you have a kid - i guess people dont plan that far .
The video said the house is naturally dark because it doesn’t get much sun. I assume you are referring to the mirrored stairwell; I agree about the effort to keep it clean. The owners would have cleaners for the house. They obviously have money.
@@sbaumgartner9848 Have money but lack of sense xD
lol dont worry, people with this kind of house would definitely have kakaks to clean them, nobody will clean a house like this themselves 😂
Always love to watch design seeds content and video. Thanks for sharing❤
Terrazzo sets it apart from other projects.I loved it! Please upload more content.
Really well-done! Not sure I would want to live with my parents in this fashion but it's the norm in their culture.
