Stories like this make me thankful to live in a more modern era, at least medically. His birth situation reminded me of my niece and SIL, who surely would have been lost during birth in those days. I can't imagine living in a time when death was so much a part of daily life. How much improved could his life have been had he had today's care?
It is good he did not live to become King. He did not have any intellect and was immature for his age. I don't think marriage to May would have helped him either. He was a dull lazy man.
He certainly had intellect, in his last years he was going to be appointed viceroy of Ireland, I do not think that someone of little intellect would be appointed to such a high position as viceroy, you should watch some documentaries about him and inform yourself a little.
@@Martinez_632 yes his surviving letters to Princess May were beautifully written and contained great depth of thought. The ‘Eddy was a feckless dimwit’ narrative was pure propaganda to cement the popularity of his younger brother ( who ironically WAS one dimensional, bullying, profoundly uncultured and his only notable achievement was the collection of thousands of stamps and the slaughtering of tens of thousands of pheasants throughout his life). He was an awful tyrannical father but by all accounts mellowed in old age and was much more at ease with his grandchildren (including his beloved ‘Lillibet’ the late Queen Elizabeth)

Thank you!
Can I suggest that you Google how to pronounce such words as penchant, argyll and many more.
So many of these narrators mispronounce all sorts of words. I don't understand it - it's so easy to Google pronunciations.
@@pageribe2399Are some of them maybe dialect differences? I haven't noticed them yet but I'm fairly new to this channel
You are " nit picking"..... mispronunciation did not spoil this excellent video for me. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Do you really think that he died of the flu?
Knowing his father, bet he wasn't premature.
