What takes the sounds in front ? volume knobs ??, gain level ? or compressors?? I watched the art of mixing video by david gibson. Can you make a newer version of that using new tools and modern mixing using modern software tools, with live examples???
I guess im randomly asking but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account? I was dumb forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Caleb Lyric Thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Damn you just covered the 20% [using parallel compression for mastering] I needed for me to be 100% confident with my parallel compression technique man, may the universe and all vibrational good energy bless you!
i got a list of like 8 youtube channels ima have to thank and give a shout out to when im charting on billboards, first person getting a shoutout and BIG thank you is YOU Devvon. bro, i been watching all your tutorials for over a year now and you have helped me improve so much bro bro. thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and information, its delivered in a very professional way and its so thorough and your energy is always up man! thank you Devvon. you tha man!
This is genius. Basically you can keep the tone and make it louder without affecting the dynamics or clipping it. I do something similar with multiband compressors, but I clone and mix the tracks separately to get the tone I want. I never thought to put the source thru a send first. I'm not an expert on vocal mixing so techniques like this always blow my mind.
this means nothing until its time but when its my turn to top charts im shouting you out. much love dawg ive been watching for years you feel like a big bro. keep doing gods work
Thank you for making this video Devvon! I now use the same approach to parallel compression after watching this and it has totally improved the sound of my music!! You're THE man!!! Best wishes for you in 2023 👍🏻
I appreciate you for the way you explain things. I've been recording music for years. But you make things that I still don't understand so simple to get.
dude thank you for tha time and effort you put into teaching and make these videos. very detailed and meant to truly understand what you're learning. I wasn't making too much progress until I found your channel.
Hey @HelpMeDevvon I'm trying to understand the attack/release concept a little better. On the CLA-76 plugin, the attack time is set to the "fastest" time which is at 7 but I thought the lower the ms time, the fastest the attack is?
If you put an EQ on the parallel, make sure that it is set to linear phase mode if it sounds off when you do apply the EQ. Look out for this especially on drums and bass.
As you can see from my photo, I'm probably not your typical viewer. But your tips, and the way you present them, are fantastic. I've been struggling with parallel compression... until today. Thank you!
Parallel makes vocal pop cut through the mix. What is parallel compression: copy of the vocal. Take the duplicate and compress it to the max, no dynamics. Blend the super compressed with the dynamic semi compressed. How does he set it up Sends, to a bus, a track Create a send, send it to a track Puts a NLS on the track Cla-76 waves all ratio Attack fastest Release medium Look for around -10 range gain reduction Move to a limiter L1 limiter Threshold -14.3 Out -8.1 Optional steps EQ Roll off the low end Last SSL channel Take off 3.5 khz range Fader set to -25.4 Bring it all the way down then find sweet spot
Thank you so much from Barcelona, Spain. I did a parallel compression by mistake (rookie) when I was messing around and it made my bass mix sound much better, but I had no idea why I was doing it. With your explanation I now understand it. cheers!
This was SO helpful!! Thank you very much for demystifying the concept of parallel compression for me. I'd seen the topic come up several times on different message boards as I recently began my foray into drum compressing techniques but never knew how to accomplish it. You're great at what you do, and I appreciate your time and efforts! Cheers, man! Definitely subscribed! :)
Damn. Thanks a lot devvon. I was hearing this kind of sound in many songs and i didn't know what it was. Now i know it's parallel compression. P.s. I've heard about parallel compression before, but I've seen so many bad tutorials on TH-cam that i didn't know that it brings this kind of sound. I thought in the beginning that this technic is bad, but it's awesome
Bruh you are a gifted teacher!!! You have a degree in teacher education? You are an effective teacher. I don't use any of your DAWS (I use LUNA) but your explanations are so clear and organized by thought process that I know exactly how to apply to my DAW. I'm ready to sign up for classes!
Devvon, I noticed you had a send on your vox par, is there any way you can explain maybe with another video or here in the comments as to why and what that send is doing in the overall mix? thank you in advance.
Devonn you should definitely do an update on your parallel compression using MV2 i saw it the other day in one of ur reels , saying how u dropped the CLA-76
Ain't gon' say everything bruh does is fully correct but this channel the most informative when it comes to atleast gettin you close to mixing your music how it should be. Only "tutorial" guy I respect for his explanations that isnt a top mixing engineer in the industry much respect my G
been doing this for +5 years. It seems really obvious but never thought to use the compressed signal as the blend. usually use it to boost the attack with it set to roughly 30ms with drums.
Sounds good Devvon... cept in my PT LE when I create an AUX I don't see any prefader option and for the parrellel comp I don't see in the send draw bar I don't see parallel comp? What do I do ?
this was a beautiful tip...i didnt make it past the 3:20 mark after you gave that basic break-down. I went straight to a mix and implemented that...it was just what i been missing
I have a question : If I use a send to send my lead vocal signal to a parallel comp aux it will be the signal without the reverbs and delay right ? I mean, when i'll be adding the compressed signal it will ad "dry" compressed signal. Is this the right way to use parallel compression ? Or should I send all my vocals + rev and delays to a bus and then send this bus to my parallel compression aux ?
You can experiment and see what sounds better. I usually go for a wet signal, since the dry signal can have a bunch of problem frequencies and transients
Hello devvon thanks for the tutorials. I now understand parallel compression trick, but when I do this my mix becomes airy, please how can I attack it.
Head on over to www.helpmedevvon.info for more bells and whistles!

Thank you for making this video Devvon! I now use the same approach to parallel compression after watching this and it has totally improved the sound of my music!! You're THE man!!! Best wishes for you in 2023 👍🏻
Returned back to this! Would it be possible to get more info on how the original signal should be processed?
I can’t believe there’s a downvote on your content! Aside from that thank you for all of your videos and music you share with us. 👍 Much appreciated!!
You're a beast ! Love you Devon, I can feel your passion for music at every second of your videos !!
I appreciate you for the way you explain things. I've been recording music for years. But you make things that I still don't understand so simple to get.

I’m just here to say, besides your musical talent, you are a great teacher.
This is a phenomenal TH-cam channel, thanks for your tutorials, I'll be watching all of them.
As you can see from my photo, I'm probably not your typical viewer. But your tips, and the way you present them, are fantastic. I've been struggling with parallel compression... until today. Thank you!
Love your videos Devvon! This is channels is in my top 4 of TH-cam!
How do you setup PRE-Fader on fl studio
Parallel makes vocal pop cut through the mix.
What is parallel compression: copy of the vocal. Take the duplicate and compress it to the max, no dynamics. Blend the super compressed with the dynamic semi compressed.
How does he set it up
Sends, to a bus, a track
Create a send, send it to a track
Puts a NLS on the track
Cla-76 waves all ratio
Attack fastest
Release medium
Look for around -10 range gain reduction
Move to a limiter
L1 limiter
Threshold -14.3
Out -8.1
Optional steps
EQ
Roll off the low end
Last
SSL channel
Take off 3.5 khz range
Fader set to -25.4
Bring it all the way down then find sweet spot
Very cool.💯 Would you leave the double vocal centered or pan it a bit ?
Always a pleasure watching these videos, very useful tips for beginners and pros. Thankyou for taking the time out to help us!
I can’t wait to get home and play with this method 🙌🏽
Thank you so much from Barcelona, Spain. I did a parallel compression by mistake (rookie) when I was messing around and it made my bass mix sound much better, but I had no idea why I was doing it. With your explanation I now understand it. cheers!
Loving this! Thanks again for explaining everything so nicely.
does anyone know how much you're supposed to send to the parallel bus? everything?
You are a great teacher
Thank you for the tutorials devon

GOAT MIXING TUTORIAL
I needed this refresher! You put out some great stuff Devon!!
No problem!! Glad it helps!!
You as well as this video are gems. Thank you!! 🙂
Great explanation, thanks! Used to love your covers in 2016 too 👍🏻
Devonn you should definitely do an update on your parallel compression using MV2 i saw it the other day in one of ur reels , saying how u dropped the CLA-76

I’ll take that lol!
THAT!!! ...just stepped my game up,thats what i was missing! your amazing!
Great video my Dood! Thanks for the info!
I use parallel comp on vocals mix bus as a send as well as my drum mix bus as send def fives a lot of energy
it's good for the voice
been doing this for +5 years. It seems really obvious but never thought to use the compressed signal as the blend. usually use it to boost the attack with it set to roughly 30ms with drums.
You explain so well, its crazy haha
ok but do you compress your vocals on original track as well (seprately from parallel compression)??
Do you set the output of the Parallel Comp to Stereo Out or send back into the original instrument bus?
Devvon is the goat 💪🙏
Sounds good Devvon... cept in my PT LE when I create an AUX I don't see any prefader option and for the parrellel comp I don't see in the send draw bar I don't see parallel comp? What do I do ?
your tutorials are spot on. your music is damn good too.
YES BUT WHERE CAN I LISTEN TO THE SONG
Wow this info was gold! Thanks bro 🙏 waves CLA compressor is indeed the one
Amazing video. Well explained man
This trick is just amazing. Thank u for your relevant and awesome tutorials. Love your channel😍
Very articulate!! Thanks man
So do you send all of the tracks that you wanna use parallel compression on to that same bus? Or do you create a different bus for every track?
Same question here!
Your videos are so helpful man everytime I really wanna hone in on a new mixing skill you break it down to a science!
Thank you bro 🙏🏽🙏🏽
You're such a blessing!
God bless you 😇
Simply Amazing
So this method instead/over the ssl g master buss compressor method you showed us previously ?
Still waiting for your vocal presets to be available on logic........
What are your thoughts on the free SPECOMP compressor from Analogue Obsession? For me it goes toe-to-toe with the CLA-76 and it's FREE.
Do u need to use a send for this to be effective or can u just throw the 76 and limiter right on the duplicate vocal track?????
this was a beautiful tip...i didnt make it past the 3:20 mark after you gave that basic break-down. I went straight to a mix and implemented that...it was just what i been missing
wow, i love your mix man.
Thank you mate, you are a great teacher!
could you use an external buss comp for the Parrell compression
At what point do you route the signal out from the main track? Is it a dry signal? Or is it after some of the the processing?
I have a question :
If I use a send to send my lead vocal signal to a parallel comp aux it will be the signal without the reverbs and delay right ? I mean, when i'll be adding the compressed signal it will ad "dry" compressed signal. Is this the right way to use parallel compression ? You can experiment and see what sounds better. I usually go for a wet signal, since the dry signal can have a bunch of problem frequencies and transients
it's good for the voice ?
My ears are kissing the earphones when the vocal hits...oh 🔥 ...it's mad ...link official audio ....if available.thanks
are you still doing a bit of compression on the main one when doing this?
Heck yea of courseeee mix your vocal like you normally would!
Hello devvon thanks for the tutorials. I now understand parallel compression trick, but when I do this my mix becomes airy, please how can I attack it.
Great tips man. will definitely use it.
Great tutorial
