Get your Warhammer 40K armies at Wayland Games! www.waylandgames.co.uk/wargames-miniatures/wargames/warhammer-40-000 A massive thanks to Wayland Games for sponsoring this battle report! What do you all think of the new style of filmed batreps? We’ve got classic style in the MWG Vault as well.
The way the new system was set up is very good. I expected less. Thanks to the mixture of close-ups, studio shots and panoramic shots. This is acceptable to me as a viewer of the last 20 years. Well done!
Honestly, the primary reason I watched miniwargaming batreps over others, was the original style of battle reports. This zoomed out style takes away from the awesome models and beautiful terrain, which is half the reason I watch in the first place.
Nah I disagree. It's way cooler to see them both at the same time, it really adds to the scene. I for one care about seeing Matthews beyond just his dice-rolling forearm. The future is now old man!
@@mattjek828 I made a comment in response to the video, stating my opinion; How I felt about the matter. I didn’t ask for opinions on my opinion of how I view things.
I like both styles, variety is the spice of life and the important factor in any batrep is the presenters, we must be able to engage with them and this was engaging.
Just keep in mind that the Broodlord doesn't have Synapse built in. Also, you keep your base Adaptation as well as gain the 2nd one when you use the Predatory Imperative stratagem. So probably balanced out in the end lol
People forget there's synapse army and Synapse keyword. He had synapse in 9th edition so it's easy to forget. You can get around it with Synaptic lynchpin enhancement and he then had 9" range
This style is so great. Easier to follow, and appreciate the feel as if we are in the room witnessing the game. When zooming in on the battlefield it’s best to not snap out of frame too quickly. Adds more to the narrative. Just my 2 cents. But overall I love this format.
Throwing my opinion in so they hear a variety of feedback. Seeing a lot of people saying they prefer handcam, but I like this a lot more. For whatever that’s worth.
This feels old-school and fun like I'm sitting in the back of my lgs watching a game my friend is playing. Love all y'alls work but this was cool. Cheers boys Yaaaaabaaabbbaaa.... DOOOOOLOO
Its a shame theres less handheld camera work. The fact that i still get some though makes me happy 😁. I understand handheld is a lot more work, but please keep up the hybrid camera work. You guys are so awesome and a huge inspiration for my hobbying.
Quality Overhead camera, before and after movement phases, concise explanations of army special rules, very well done. Enjoyable while learning, without sitting through a 3 hour game.
Gotta say I prefer hand cam. Honestly the biggest reason I watch you guys over other channels is because you were the only ones doing hand cam. I think you did a great job with the multi cam style, I just prefer handcam
While I like how the handheld camera makes it feel more like we're at the table playing, this style of multi-camera and overhead view makes it much easier to follow the game and understand what's happening.
i feel when cams are over head i feel a bit disconnected to the battle. when yall do hand cams hte zoom ins and over view shots help immerse :) I hope this helps. Allways love watching yall!
Great job with the new format! I especially liked what you did with the lighting in the studio, it really made the Nurgle scenery pop! I think you might want to experiment with the brightness a little bit though because the minis looked a little bit washed out in the overhead shots. I'm reading what a lot of people are saying in the comments about the handheld style and I have to say I agree, the intimate first-person shots to me are the MWG brand, you should own it! That being said, I really do appreciate the overhead camera for getting a sense of the army positioning and battlefield objectives. In my humble opinion, you should stick to the handheld cam for most of the batrep and use the overhead shots in between turns and phases, kind of like popping open the map in a video game to get your bearings. Once again, great job. I really appreciate the MWG team always trying to innovate and improve their content!
Loving that you guys are getting into upgrading your youtube videos, really nice step in the right direction! Highly recommend getting some music to play in the backround, really ups the immersion and gets peoples blood pumping. Can't wait for more Ravaged Star videos!
I like the new Camera / battle report style! Curious about the reason for changing it and what do you think about not having to hold the camera anymore?
Might have realized it after but in round 1 you couldve used the Termagant's agility once the Space Wolves got on the objective to roll a d6 and move. With the right roll it couldve gotten more Termagant bodies on the objective and denied that secondary and kept it under Tyranid control for the next turn!
Love your batreps but honestly I never liked the multi-camera style. Stoped watching on-demand TTT because of that and BBone leaving them. Would really hope to see more old style batreps still.
I personally really enjoy PlayOnTableTop. I enjoy how they edit it and make it a bit shorter and more accessible for other people. Usually they do 40k in 40mins. Unfortunately for me personally, I don't have 1.5 or 2 hours to be watching camera held batreps.
Can't wait to see this style used on Age of Sigmar, or the old style....or anything on Age of Sigmar. I love all the content, but Age of Sigmar is my main game and the reason I found this channel and you guys seem to be covering it less and less lately. I get that Old World came out, and you haven't had a lot of folks come out for AOS lately but man Im missing batreps for AOS. Maybe get Dave playing AOS too! lol
I really like this new format, it comes off as way more personal. Yabba Dabba Doo, I also really like the overhead camera and the overlays you guys provide, giving a lot more context to the overall battle. I know that's not a terribly innovative thing, but it warrants praise.
Love the new setup however I think it would be awesome to include some hand cam shots in this too! Best of both worlds but not relying only on hand cam 😁👍🏼
Yaba! Daba! Doooouuh! I love seeing Tyranids in action. And all though i know, this is not what it meant, i m excited for the possibility that "Ep1" means, Tyranids game 1, out of many.
Great game and really like you changing things up for this style of camera coverage. Maybe it's my old eyes but I'd ask if you could have more light or zoom on the dice cam :) Keep it coming MWG, never get bored of your content
Great batrep guys. Lots of fun and it's great that you explain what you're doing and why, as you go along, which is very useful. Also, Yabba dabba dooooo!
35:00 I wonder how other people interpret consolidation. As I read it you have to consolidate into a unit, and only if you can't you can do it on an objective. Was Bjorn not in ramge there so Matthew had to consolidate into him instead of the obj?
I like this overall. A couple of pieces of feedback: * More zoomed in shots while the "action" is taking place. I think this was the appeal of hand cam, where we get to see the models a lot more. * During the army introduction segment; A little more time spent on each unit would be great. * Also, during the army introduction segment, staying on the models rather than flipping back and forth between presenter and models would be preferable. It's a little jarring. I think there are times that staying with an angle would be better. The swapping is kinda jarring.
I appreciate that you both have Classic & New Camera styles for both videos. I wouldn't mind seeing both videos for each one or two one week of the New and then two for the Classic.
I prefer this to handcam, MWG does a good job but there are other channels where I can't watch shaky handcams. I would add that I don't need to see every roll, you could skip inconsequential or foregone conclusions.
Really loved the style! It seemed as Luka looked a little tired/resigning with the SW -but I had a similar feeling with my wolves against my buddy´s Necrons. I saw the armies and knew it´ll be a defeat^^. It was a big defeat but also nice to see my buddy happy
Yabba dabba doo! The carnifexes by themselves are pathetic but when the boss is around, yikes do they work beautifully ! Well done commander of the hive mind, a well deserved biomass feast awaits you now. consume at your will.
I liked your batreps the best because of the walking camera. Just my opinion. I could see the board better and know where the models were. I can’t follow what’s happening in these kind of bat reps.
Amazing report and great camera work. Love to see my nids being played properly; there are so many battle reports with rookie mistakes on them but in this game it was both a nice list and well played!
Hy there A question for SW players: can we use the Pack Leader (in termi armor or any other) characters in units (as discribed in their datasheets) alongside the original Pack Leader of the unit? I have to ask this as the individual Pack Leaders' datasheets specify you can't have more than one Pack Leader in one unit - meaning you then have to remove the original Pack Leader?
I love this new style. Reminds me a lot Table Top Tactics and Play On Tabletop, the only other channels I watch regularly for battle reports. It has a more professional and less of a “two guys in a basement with a camera” feel, which most YT battle reports are. I would suggest adding a score ticker somewhere on the screen with VP, CP etc.
i have a lot of fire warriors, pathfinders, kroot a commander and 4 suits, 2 devilfish and 2 hammerhands and i like the big suits but do you need them??

So, I notice a lot more of these kinds of battle reports from you guys recently with the fixed camera. I realize that's how most battle reports are done, but I specifically subscribe to you guys for the more casual shot from the camera style of games. I find them easier to follow. While I don't expect anyone to cater to my taste specifically, I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy the other style of video, and if it's dropped entirely, I probably won't be keeping up my membership. There might be others like me, so I thought I'd at least say something.
A few suggestions: - move the MWG logo off of the die rolling camera - add some light to the die rolling section. those orange dice were tough to see. - the sponsor message was a huge eye sore but you need the $$$
1. I really like that both combatants are visible. It was sad that we couldn't see the guests almost all the time. 2. I'd like to have dice tray camera not right above but at the angle so rolling will feel more natural and emotional 3. I really miss players' perspective view. Right above view doesn't really show what's happening as well as sideview. 4. I wish tactical missions appear on the screen bigger. Someone new to the game might want to read them but it is almost impossible. Overall, this is great! With a few little tweaks, it will be perfect! MWG's batreps were the best around already but this time you can really jump to the stratosphere.
I love the new format. If y'all added some graphics for points and CP that would make things easier to follow, but I enjoy this more conversational style of batrep as much as I enjoy the slick, pretty PlayOn ones.
I like this style of batreps, it looks more professional while still seeming like a couple friends meeting up for a game. Only critique so far is maybe slowdown the number of camera switches, got a little dizzy a few minutes in. 😂
As someone who is more into painting and the way the armies look I have always felt like the really best next direction for any of the tabletop gaming TH-cam channels or providers to improve and getting me watching again I would need to see the entire quality of the models and tabletop highly increased, I don’t know if any channel is doing high quality painted models and terrain. But maybe it’s an impossible ask because then the teams would need full eavy metal style teams full time painting models like GW itself. But that’s just what I wish to see.
I imagine this saves time on editing and filming, but I much preferred the old method. It made it feel more like you were there for the game, but with the slow parts edited out. This is like a slightly improved livestream, and I’ve never been a fan of these livestreamed tabletop games.
