    i don’t know about housing the battery right on the deadbolt. if an intruder comes kicking in the door, that bolt will have battery leaking out of it. the deadbolt is supposed to be the physical deterrent in terms of brute force. that one is hollow, not solid steel.

    This lock is terrible if you're wanting to include it into automations or use it on any lock too remote from any Homekit hub. It was a nice experience to install and the engineering is impressive, regardless of the hollowed battery-bolt, but after 3 months of "No Response" unless I was standing less than 8 feet away within line-of-sight, I replaced it with a Yale-August Assure one.
    I really wanted this one to work so that I could return to something that didn't scream "Hey everyone, I am a smart lock," from either side of the door.

    So close. I’ve gone smart home except for smart lock because none are ready for prime time. I thought this was it. But the lack of Wifi is a deal breaker (does anyone even own a HomePod?). Also, as clever as it is to have the battery in the bolt, that seems like a really really weak bolt. uh... yeah, NO. from a security standpoint that lock is trash. it was designed by someone that doesn't understand why deadbolts are solid metal to begin with. a few good strikes on that deadbolt and your lock is trashed. not to mention the security risk the thing likely has. if you want automated locking doors there are far better options out there in the commercial sector. the ADIOS system SDS-Tech seems to be much better suited for security and home purposes. it also integrates with access control systems which if set up properly are far more secure then this trash lock will ever be.

      @cameronno6039 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They need Z-wave, google assistant/ alexa access, Wi-fi, and actual strength for the lock. He didn't cover that the lock isn't strong. If you unlock or lock it too hard for the motor, it won't work. I.e, after a normal lock or unlock for me, I have to turn it back the other way just to ensure I can remotely lock it if I want to in the future. In all, it is a VERY limited device.

    • @wanaraz
      @wanaraz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cameronno6039 In an ordinary deadbolt like a one inch throw, the bolt goes in the jamb one inch and about one inch is in the body of the door. This creates a strong point of contention for a thief. This smart lock seems to throw it's whole bolt in the jamb and leaves nothing on the door side. This makes for a very weak connection. Especially if the door opens in as most front doors do. But if you are not too worried about security because of where you live this could be an answer, But Zwave would be the ticket for sure. Yale Nest has a beautiful one that I like that does everything FREE!

      yeah, what of it? a good lock is expensive, too bad this one is way to much tech and a massive security flaw and i just realize it is also a fire risk. a bad guy strikes that door too hard, dents the deadbolt pinches the battery and shorts it out... woops, you just burned down your home. that thing needs to be recalled NOW. (also no reinforcement plate and it likely has vulnerabilities and exploited that can make it wonderfully insecure. if you want a good lock go with a Bowley lock or a bowley and an Audios system from SDS, which likely will be far more secure then this pile of e-waste.

    This issue I have with this lock hes pushing SO HARD is that I have a biometric front door lock ( Lockly) and I can just walk up to my front door tap my finger on the scanner and seamlessly opens my deadbolt within a second. Its been a game changer. To have to pull my phone out of my pocket every time I come home is too much. As if I am not on my phone enough all day long. Its so refreshing to be able to carry NOTHING AT ALL with my and just walk up to my front door tap it and go in. If the Level lock was able to recognize me there and i could just tap the lock without pulling my phone out then I am I am interested because Lockly does not have Home Kit compatibility and I would like that. - JB

    Even though he says that the lock is solid, from a European point of view it looks like a padlock to me. Massive locks don't seem to help much with American doors. The lock may hold, but the door won't. Here the doors usually have several bolts all around and are operated by a Euro cylinder which does not determine the stability of the locking system and they are thicker (if they are outer doors). The important thing is that the Euro cylinder should be difficult to crack.

    Generally lithium batteries aren’t recommended because when they die they go fast. Regular batteries give you plenty of warning and opportunity to change it.
