  • Great Himalaya Trail - Day 16 - 30th April in the Kanchenjunga section. Today I hiked from Ghunsa (3,600 m) to Kharka (4,160 m). Climbing up to the first pass.
    🔽 The Great Himalaya Trail
Hi, I'm Dave Brophy. From April to September 2019 Mathi and I thru-hiked the Great Himalaya Trail across Nepal.
The concept of the Great Himalaya Trail is to follow the highest elevation continuous hiking route across the Himalayas. The Nepal section stretches for 1,400 km from Kanchenjunga in the east to Humla in the west. It winds through the mountains with an average elevation of 3,750 m, and up to 6,200 m, with an average daily ascent of over 1,000 m. The route includes parts of the more commercialised treks, linking them together with sections that are so remote even the locals seldom hike there.

was wandered from Pangpema episode about that white piece of gear - and here it reveals itself) did this open-air-tent supported You over the whole trip?!! I can imagine how overwhelmed with impressions you were at that moment, and it's just the beginning of the Trail!)

So the tent is an Ultamid 4 by Hyperlight Mountain Gear. I also have the inner tent which has bug net and a bathtub floor, but for this section I just took the outer tent to save weight. Once I met up with Mathi in the Makalu section she had the inner tent so it was a bit more luxurious!

Was there any kind of floor mat or ground tarp in your tent or are you just laying a pad right on the dirt?

Yeah I had a very thin polycryo plastic ground sheet from Gossamer Gear... just keeps the water off if the ground is wet.

Haha yeah he was pretty cool. Probably wasn’t as heavy as some of the loads we saw strapped to guys heads later in the trek!
