    I bought the Backbone PS5, tried it out, and almost immediately boxed it up to return. Product feels extremely solid. Very well made and feels premium. Worked great with my iPhone 12 Pro Max in terms of input lag (next to none). But after trying out a few games, I determined the controls are just simply too small for my hands. It’s not a 1:1 size ratio of a standard controller, and they ever so slightly changed the button layout to the point where muscle memory no longer applies. Thumbsticks feel like tiny toy versions of the originals. Aiming in FPS games is difficult. I wish I liked it more, but just can’t justify the $99 price tag if it isn’t 100% comfortable to play on.

      Yeah all is good, but companies need to stop using those tiny Nintendo switch like thumb sticks. Those thumb sticks are so terrible especially for fps games.

    • @marcusdiddle
      @marcusdiddle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@PantsaBear I certainly don’t want my personal review to dissuade anyone from trying it themselves. They do have a 30-day return policy on it. But “Feels too small” is quite literally one of the options you can choose as to why you’re returning it. I really did have high hopes for it. I thought pairing it with a larger Pro Max iPhone screen in conjunction with AirPods Max would make a killer “casual couch gaming” setup for when I didn’t want to make the trek all the way downstairs where I normally game. And by all accounts, the above combination of hardware is impressive for what it is. But probably better suited for more casual, relaxed games, like perhaps No Man’s Sky, Stray, Lawn Mowing Simulator (yes I have that). But if that’s all you’re using it for, then you need to decide if it’s worth $100 when you can get controller mounts online for less than $20 to attach your iPhone to an actual full-size DualSense controller (something Chris touched on in his vid).

    Love mine personally. I had to increase the stick sensitivity a bunch but that’s really it. It’s super convenient. I have zero issues playing PS remote games other than the heavy MP stuff because the latency drops and it’s just not as good as the full sized PS5 controller so it’s tougher to be quicker with the control scheme.

    Awesome review man, I've also got the controller and completely agree with your views on it, my only gripe with it (and bare in mind this is completely optional) is with the subcription scheme for the app, in order to use the app and its amazing, organised UI which keeps all your games on one place, you have to pay (imo) an expensive amount of money a year just to use it, it's like buying a smart TV only you can't use its UI/OS unless you pay a subscription (again optional as the controller can still be used without the app), I just found it tasteless as it comes across very anti consumer, however I can't fault the controller as it's an amazing piece of equipment and would still recommend it :D

    Hi Chris,
    I’m surprised you didn’t mention that the backbone app has a £44.99 yearly subscription free for certain features, like personal recommendations, Sharing via twitch and TH-cam and such.

    • @marcusdiddle
      @marcusdiddle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Worth noting though that the first year is free, and you’ll only get charged a year later when the subscription renews. You can even activate the trial and immediately unsubscribe and still have access for the entire year. It’s also not at all needed if you’re just using Remote Play to access your PS5. That functionality is in no way dependent on the Backbone app or their subscription fee.

    Biggest problem with the backbone is that it requires a subscription in order to use all its features. The backbone app and even being able to connect to iPad and Mac requires a $50/year subscription. Meanwhile you can get the same thing with Razer Kishi V2 and it doesn't have a subscription requirement to use fully.

      @c_l_a_d_d_i_x 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They updated the app to support 120Hz but as far as your answer goes for the iPhone 13 Pro, that depends on apple. Since the high refresh rate is automated on iPhone it really actually depends on whether the “PS Remote play” app is actually classified as “game” on the App Store. Because the 120Hz on iPhone for the most part is only taken advantage of by safari, the UI, and games
