Within the story, Uncle Ruckus is a nut who spouts racist crap. On a meta level, he's a caricature of all the racist bullshit spouted by the ignorant. He is mockery personified, played straight for comedic effect. When Uncle Ruckus says something racist, you laugh because of how stupid it sounds. But if you take a second to think after laughing, you realize some idiot racist, somewhere, has said that crap out loud.
The best part about Uncle Ruckus is they eventually go through his backstory and he somehow goes from "shockingly racist black man who thinks he's white" to "tragic shockingly racist black man who thinks he's white". And it never detracts from what he said before or says after...though it does give context to why other people continue to tolerate him within the setting.

Boondocks is such an amazing show. The episode where you meet ruckus's family and you actually see how he was abused and brainwashed by his mother and father kinda explains him in a way but doesn't excuse him. The writing on this show is so great.
It's even funnier when you find out that some of Uncle Ruckus' lines are ad-libbed. Gary Anthony Williams' delivery is the best and makes this character.
You REALLY should watch Boondocks in its entirety. It's an amazingly thought-provoking show. Ruckus is just the comedy relief. Everyone else has significantly more character depth. Huey and Riley's relationship as polar opposites plays out in a lot of fun ways.
I’m constantly amazed that Nux is so flabbergasted by how wild some of these characters from the 90s and early 2000s were. I’m just gunna say it, the world was a more Tolerant place pre 2008. Everyone was fair game, and we as a culture were at lot thicker skinned.

My most prominent memory of uncle ruckus is the whole police episode, and dude it hasnt left, the part where he told the officer he might get him next time always throws me even after the years.
I think people love Uncle Ruckus not just because he’s funny, but also because he has the most tragic story of all the characters in the show. In Season 2; he gets an episode that shows in great detail as to why he is the way he is.

DUDE, Nux, how have you never seen the Boondocks? Dont waste time on Season 4, but 1-3 are fantastic. There is some amazing social commentary in the show hidden behind the comedy. Aaron McGruder is a genius.

Ruckus’ season 3 character development gets undone. The Civil Rights episode must have had McGruder ghost writing, because its the only one that really felt like a real Boondocks episode.

My nan Nux FINALLY being introduced to the wonderous splendor of South Park & Boondocks is a joy to behold. This was back when we could have comedy. The Boondocks was honestly genius. Much like South Park it tackled a bunch of issues of the time in such a masterful way. Ruckus was just one part of it. A full on Uncle Tom.

"Breaking Granddad" and "I dream of Siri" are pretty good episodes of Season 4
While not every episode was great, Boondocks' highs were absolutely S-tier. So many episodes I still remember clearly to this day.

My nan Nux FINALLY being introduced to the wonderous splendor of South Park & Boondocks is a joy to behold.
This was back when we could have comedy. The Boondocks was honestly genius. Much like South Park it tackled a bunch of issues of the time in such a masterful way.
Ruckus was just one part of it. A full on Uncle Tom.
