Love this series! The stars aligned and i found this series a mere day after episode 1 was released. Been following ever since. Best silent hunter 3 content on the whole internet! 👍
Same here, got episode 1 randomly recommended to me when it was released, thought, "hey, i remember that game" and checked it out. Haven't missed an episode since
@@tarkalak Agreed, I had just bought Graviteam: Mius Front and was looking at his tutorial videos on the game when I saw he had an SH3 series going, I believe he was about 40 or 50 episodes into the series at that point. Took me about a month and a half but I caught up to the latest episode, been watching every episode that has come out since.
That first ship you engaged and missed was a Canadian ship, trying to sink my countryman are ya jajajaja. Good video as always, seems to be getting tougher and tougher for you now, no more slipping inside of convoys for you anymore my friend. Gonna have to engage from distance or wait/approach submerged and ambush them like a wolf does. (Kyle9154 - Onealex mod team)
Another great installment! Too bad about the weather. Tough call, but I think once you were inside the convoy I would have just focussed on finding a target and firing and getting out - while "mostly" ignoring the escorts. When you are that close in, is always risky indeed. But, the main thing is, you lived to fight another day and kept your crew safe.
Another episode and so soon, and just as I sit down to eat dinner. Thank you. I think that due to that storm that you should have let that convoy go. I'm amazed the first ship didnt spot you and report you in to the escorts. I lucky day or U-80.
You should be going for magnetic piston under these conditions. Calc a course with zero Gyro, and under 65 deg AOB, it will hit. It looks like a small composite freighter, it definitely doesnt have a 6m deep draft. Also the highest speed settings would help, I exclusively almost never use slow speed for torps, medium speed only if simultaneous hits are required, errors in the solution grows exponentially with the impact time, so its even better to fire a fast torpedo from a longer distance, than a slow torpedo from a short distance.
Was that torpedo set to impact pistol or magnetic? I wonder if a magnetic detonator might have been the best option given the heavy weather and depth you had to run your torpedo at. Also, I think you might have been fairly safe from ASDIC in such weather.
Awesome stuff! Wondering what would happen if you set the torpedo shallower, despite the storm waves? I appreciate the storm depth setting is the depth where the ships hull is not exposed by the wave action. But would the torpedo break through the waves and continue anyway? Or would it be affected by the waves anyway, perhaps deflecting the shot or pre-detonating it?
I would have set it shallow to allow for the bad weather situation. But in reality I would have waited for the weather to calm down a little but stay in contact with the convoy, before attacking. The worst thing any submarine commander can do is waste torpedoes you only have a limited amount of them to use!!.
@@Foxrich99 Torpedoes just fly at the set depth. It would go through the air. Normal unmodded failures includes torpedoes exploding earlier, but that is not linked to depth. The depth failure that is linked with the t.h.t table is from Stiebler's patch and works like that: 1. At 0 meters torpedoes have 98 % failure rate 2. At the designated depth D buy the table torpedoes have X % failure rate. At 15 m/s wind D = 7 meters. Failure rate X % depends on magnetic or contact fuse and the year. In 1943 it becomes 10% and stays so. In 1939 and early 1940 it is higher like 40% or so, but I don't remember. 3. At depth between 0 and max from table failure is linear between 98% and X%. So if you sail in 1944 at 15 m/s and shoot a torpedo at 3.5 meters depth your failure rate would be 98% + 10% / 2 ~ 44%. I don't remember the actual function but this should be true. So if you shoot at slightly above the T.h.T table depth your failure rate should be slightly higher. Note that Stiebler's failure rate is separate from the normal game failures that can happen. Stiebler sets torpedo depth to 25 meters to simulate the failure.
I think its pointless to attack under these circumstances and on surface because it is guaranteed that they will detect you even in bad visibillity.Your opponent is AI which is pretty good.If it was the real life maybe they wouldnt have spotted you.Personally i dont attack escorted targets at night with bad visibillity.I prefer to stalk them from distance and parallel to them until light comes in and diving frequently only to check them from the hydrophone. If you continue with this approach you will mess up promising attacks like in this episode and endanger your boat and crew.I know you play with historic realism but still it is extremely dangerous.
Was your approach into the convoy wrong? No, I don't think so. You did all what you could in the most extreme weather this game can simulate. But, I think going into the convoy in the first place was hopeless. You couldn't damage a ship that was, at least by the 1941 conditions, given to you on a silver platter. If you could only stare at a defenseless ship, why bother with the convoy, where escorts still can do their job even in this kind of weather?

I think I found Tonci from one of his training videos in SH5. But this series is definitely the best.

Good job brightening the image.
The kind of night where whomever needs a bath the most gets put on watch duty.
LOL 😂
Probably the lightning that gave you away. With the flash everything becomes black and white

Valiant effort!

Very entertaining attack but also very dangerous! Bravery and aggressiveness is a double edged sword!
Gripping. Light convoy bobbing so much. Seems like the Tommies have radar. Exciting moment when they tripped their ambush!
Thanks you for good video. I study English and tactics in silent hunter with your videos!
when thid drops on a wednesday I'm in hogs heaven.. love it.

Oddly relaxing episode. You definitely got too close.
"The boat is new." Imagine if they added material fatigue.

Ooo man, talk about pucker factor...
Lordy. Past life me is having an anxiety attack from the sea state at the first of the video.

Pretty sure there was one episode where he did that and the torpedo flew out of a wave, smacked into the next one and detonated prematurely

Really seemed a bit reckless getting so close to the convoy on the surface. Was inevitable you would be spotted.
