      Mine too! and I wasn't sure if folks would like to hear about both but I really just can't seperate them because everything I do and live are interconnected and will ebb and flow depending on what's going on in my world. Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate it.

    Lovely podcast. Thank you for introducing me to the idea of reclaimed yarn. I am a small on-grid homesteader in the southeastern US with bigger dreams for more of an off grid life. I am interested in seeing what your off-grid life looks like. Take care.

      Hi Jennifer, thanks so much for stopping by. There's been quite a bit of interest in how I reclaim yarn and process it so I'm actually going to be doing a video on it (hopefully this week). I'm so excited that you have dreams to live off grid. I hope that this little space will, over time be a source of information and inspiration for you :)

I lived in Paris for 6 months in my 20s and it was magnificent. I did not speak French at all, I was very scared to speak but I did understand more than I could speak. I wish I'd taken advantage of living in Europe more but I was young and foolish as they say. Now here in Australia it's hard to find others to practice with so I am very much a beginner French speaker still. Looking forward to sharing my next episode with you.

    Hi Sarah, greetings from central Illinois USA. I was excited to see you reclaim yarn . I used to do it a lot when my kids were young and I couldn’t afford wool yarn. You are a girl after my own heart, I love tiny spaces and sewing also. Best of luck with your building projects , I’m looking forward to seeing them take shape. Isn’t it fun to connect with someone on the other side of the world.
    I don’t understand hotel lockdown, that can be pretty expensive, and terribly boring , can you explain.
    Lovely to meet you,
    Carolyn

    • @TheMakersCorner
      @TheMakersCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Oooh I didn't manage to make it to Illinois last time I was over the in the US. I hope you're safe and well there. My mum and Gran used to reclaim yarn when I was a kid for the very same reason. Also not to waste. I remember mum frogging back a man's jumper and making my brother and I a jumper each for school from the yarn. It's amazing how resourceful they were and what's quite fashionable now. I'm sure I complained at the time for having hand made things...
      It's been incredible connecting with people from all over the world. We really all do have way more in common than not and I love that we have these free platforms to use. So exciting.
      Hotel quarantine is expensive. It's $3k for the 2 weeks and it's something mandated by our governments for anyone travelling interstate from a 'hotspot' / place with Covid outbreaks. It's there to make sure that if you do have Covid, that you're not in community during your infectious period. Home quarantine was free of course but is only allowed in some circumstances.

    I was so excited to see you gathering reclaimed yarn. I do this myself, both for knitting and weaving. When you were showing your thrift store finds in fabric, I wondered if you got knitted goods to take apart and use as well, and you do! I love the wool you bought for your coats and will enjoy seeing you make them. I always tested my patterns in some cheaper fabric first, before tailoring a coat. It is a slow but satisfying process. Looking forward to the tour of your van.

There seems to be quite a bit of interest in the reclaiming of yarn so I have planned some time to actually make a seperate video this week on that process as well as one showing how I scour and clean. my yarn. I just happened upon your podcast and I love it! It is a combination of so many of my favorite things. I admire you for embarking on your homesteading journey and I can't wait to see your bus conversion. I dream of living tiny one day, though at 46 I wonder if it is ever going to happen. I would have to have a separate building or trailer for all of my spinning wheels, wool, looms, tools, yarn, etc. because those are my passion and I can't be separated from them. I'm going to figure it out one day...maybe have a small off-grid homestead with a she shed and some fiber animals and a small converted work trailer for me and the hubby to travel in. I look forward to your future episodes!

    • @TheMakersCorner
      @TheMakersCorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do a short bus tour at the very beginning of episode 2 which will give you a good idea of where I'm up to. My entire build was done around my dining table / sewing space so I totally understand the need for our crafts. I will have a seperate room / shipping container on the homestead for my workshop. Absolutely essential. Living intentionally and even minimalism isn't about an amount of stuff as so often is thought But actually about the things that really make up one's joy and life. I'm almost 42 so please don't give up or think it's not possible! Thank you so much for your comment. I hope you enjoy my other episodes (#3 coming later this week) and so glad you're here :)

    Hi Sarah, Hello from Scotland. You just popped up on my TH-cam suggestions, and I’m so glad you did. I was knitting with some Miss Click Clack Merri Creek Sock yarn while I was watching you. I’ve been a member of her Ravelry Group for around 6 years now. She is a wonder with the dye pots! I even flew from Adelaide to Melbourne a few years ago, for the day, just to attend a Craft Event and a “Clackette” get together. (I have lived sporadically between Adelaide and Scotland over the years - long story) I don’t sew but I still enjoy seeing beautiful fabrics and hearing what you intend to make with them. I’m amazed at what you found in thrift stores. I’m looking forward to seeing your winter coats in those gorgeous wool/cashmere fabrics. The aran cardigan was also a great find. It looks like you are leading an interesting life up there and I look forward to seeing more of your bus, and the surrounding country. And… I thought I had detected a tiny trace of a scottish accent here and there, and then you confirmed it. All the best. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥰

      Oh yay! Hello fellow Scot and thank you so much for your comment. I'm so jealous that you got to do a real in person meetup at a Clackette! I think, even without Covid they were rare. Yes the accent never really leaves you but I've lived on 4 continents now and outside of the UK longer than in it so it's a bit made up these days... Thank you so much for watching and I look forward to more :)

    Hey Sarah. Enjoyed the podcast, a refreshing change to the usual. Loving the Shallows Shawl - off down the Etsy rabbit hole to find the pattern for myself 😊. Looking forward to watching your next episode Sam

      Hi, thank you so much. I really appreciate your comment and so glad you enjoyed it. I'm really looking forward to recording again. I've made the very rookie error not to have multiple projects cast on and so am now impatiently waiting for ALL THE THINGS to arrive in the post :) Enjoy your rabbit hole!

      Hi Sarah. I'm happy to tell you what I'm knitting! I'm just on the last few hours of knitting the Perun vest for my husband, as well as the Starfish cardigan for my sweet daughter. Also, here in Northern Alberta, Canada, spring and gardening are calling to me now :) I think it may be a pair of socks on the needles next.... for me :)

      @@lizsannachan Nice! We're getting ready for winter here and I'm prepping my very first sweater

      @@lizsannachan Oooh yes it will be starting to thaw where you are. I imagine Spring is a very exciting time when you've had a big winter. It's much milder here and I try and take as much advantage of the sweater weather as possible but it's only really between 6pm and 9am and then the temperatures are very mild indeed.

    Hello from Nome Alaska, USA. I enjoyed watching this podcast and look forward to seeing your projects as they progress and are completed. I do believe that I was more creative in the days where I was a single mother on a very limited budget. I sewed and knitted a lot from the op shop finds. Now that I am very much older and better off financially, I can buy anything I want, but am less creative, I think. I like how you intentionally buy fabric from thrift stores and are recycling yarn in that sweater. I look forward to more podcasts from you and the tour of your bus.

      Ahhh I LOVE your accent. I think it's one of my favourites. Mine's a bit made up these days. I've lived on 4 continents and out of the UK longer than in it and I've been in Australia for 15 years now. Grabbed a coffee and I'm off to watch yours! Yay :) Thank you so much for your lovely comment and congrats on your channel too
