      They actually used Hokkien for the red flag practice missions because the Americans were logging on the frequency of the RSAF, which is cheating. So after they started using Hokkien, we won them more times than we lost.

      Yes I did. She is quite the character. She would deny knowing the roof leaked even though we reported it to her before we moved in multiple times while there, she refused to give us any part of our security deposit back even though the one thing that needed to be replaced didn't cost anywhere near the security deposit. She expected us to clean out the gutters in December. We took care of the landscaping, repaired small things ourselves, installed the fans for her, purchased and installed blinds and when we asked her to show us the receipts to prove her claims of costs it had everything from paint (to paint for the new tenants even though I'm sure she told the new tenants it was free as she told us, misc food items she bought and other stuff that had nothing to do with us) I remember she placed a pie in the fridge for the new tenants it had a big label on it from the company saying its price was reduced because it was a reject product not meeting the manufactures expectations. This is how she ran the place, she was the worst landlord I have ever dealt with on every conceivable level.

    Singlish is important for ALL Singaporeans and Singapore.

  • @Averagebum21
    @Averagebum21 10 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    Soon, Google Translate will have Singlish as a language, and the TH-cam captions will translate Singlish into English. Then, all this will not work.

    • @iamt_tl
      @iamt_tl 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      An zua translate singlish? saya sio buay tio. One english word got so many way to say and shortform in singlish. i say singlish the most complex and smart language in the world.

    • @Averagebum21
      @Averagebum21 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But it still can be translated. In fact, I think there already are several Singlish-English dictionaries. One of them is the Coxford Singlish Dictionary.
      Singlish has colloquial phrases, very contextually and tonally-based exclaimations, and a uniquely Southeast Asian consonant pronunciation.

    • @Averagebum21
      @Averagebum21 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TLTango
      For eg: "An zua translate singlish?": [How to translate Singlish?] How can Singlish be translated?
      "saya sio buay tio.": [I think not right.] I can't think of it.
      "One english word got so many way to say and shortform in singlish.": There are so many connotations for each English word, and so many abbreviations in Singlish.
      "i say singlish the most complex and smart language in the world.": I would say that Singlish is the most complex and sophisticated language in the world.

    • @ExDarkx3
      @ExDarkx3 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Averagebum Bum idk why the government is discouraging sia, i mean we should learn good english but singlish should be our mother tongue or something XD

    • @Averagebum21
      @Averagebum21 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      ExDarkx3 Same reason we weren't allowed to use Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, etc, in the 70's. We lost all the culture that came with those dialects.
      The Government wants us to be conversant with other countries, because trading ability is all we have to survive, having no natural resources.
      But of course, the more control in anything, the less room for creative expression. It's always the stability/security versus creativity/freedom dilemma.
      They are on opposite ends of a continuum, and exist in amounts inversely proportional to the other, but we need both. Very hard to find the right spot in between.
