@@b1ac4yt69 I remember that in one interview, James said that Cliff was the one who used to keep them grounded and not fall for the rockstar kinda lifestyle. And after he died, they felt lost and didn't know what direction to go with their music and life in general because they couldn't rely on his "bullshit-o-meter" anymore. :D That was a perfect description.

@@ian6fx995 He wasn't addicted tho, and he didn't do it at parties. Apparently, the weed helped him relax and get into a really creative and philosophical mood. And they were all drinkers when they were younger, but it was only for fun and again, no real addiction. It was only after his death when the recreational use became abuse, to numb the pain.

The pic of Kirk sitting with his toys and comics hung on my bedroom wall in high school. That pic showed me that Kirk was a true nerd and that it was okay to be a nerd. I was a budding metal guitarist who loved kittens and puppies, loved Star Wars and would cry a little during sad parts in movies. What a relief! Thanks Kirk.

Kirk Hammett is like the David Gilmour of Metal. Melodic, lyrical, hauntingly beautiful, and deeply memorable guitar solos. He always makes the guitar sing.
Such an underrated guitarist. One of the top 10 of all time in my book.
When I worked backstage in Amsterdam at their concert last year, I sat down with Kirk and we hade a couple beer. I liked all of them a lot, laidback, cool, funny dudes. But Kirk really stole my heart with his kindness and relatableness
when i started listening to metal, metallica was my big fav, then i started seeing kirk as a bad guitarrist cause of what people use to say about him, now years later i hear them and watch kirk's videos and im honestly in love as a guitarrist, idk what fuck is people thinking when they say he is bad, he is not the best, sure, but he is a hell of a lead guitar and hell of a rockstar cool guy, probably the coolest and one of my damn favs :)
Ugh - I agree, just pedantic trainspotting. Kirks playing is full of emotion, and air is just electric. I like the line up with Rob they all, play off each other really well.

The Kirk Hammett hate and wah wah bullshit comments aside, I've always wondered what Metallica would have looked like if Kirk and Cliff didn't switch beds. Imagine how different Metallica would be. Not in a bad way of course, just how different the band would look without Kirk, but with Cliff.

Still to this day, one of my greatest life highlights was being in the Front Row of Metallica's World Magnetic Tour in Adelaide, and Kirk playing the entirety of Fade to Black in front of me and my mates on That Black Les Paul Custom.

When i was a teenager, i fucking worshiped this guy. Any one talking shit about kirk was met wit an explosion of angst fueld punches with no warning. Kirk was literally a god to me. I didnt think anyone could be better, but thats only because ive never heard resl metal before. My introduction to metal was master of puppets. Still imo the greatest metal album ever.

@somekindofmonster7 It happened. Although, actually Kirk played the right key but James' accoustic guitar was tuned half step higher. Since James played intro before Kirk's solo kicked in, people heard it off key. James kicked the accoustic guitar and continued to play the intro with clean tone guitar, which was tuned half step down just like Kirk's and Robert's.
