Another reason why Graham's show is one of the best, he can go from the funniest interviews to the most tear jerker ones by creating a really comfortable environment for his guests.
It's actually really nice to see a "celebrity feud" be discussed with such maturity and honesty; both admit what they did to contribute to the conflict with humility. Again, so nice.
I actually really liked The Beach even though it was a flop apparently. I read the book by Garland in the 7th grade and a year later heard that they were making the movie... was excited. I also lived in Thailand for 5 years so really related to it.
I know I say this a lot about most guests, but I didn't expect Danny himself to turn up on the show - I hope this leads to more directors ending up on the couch
CaptainGrumpy dannys a really cool bloke, heres a bit of knowledge for you....as and when he won the oscar for slumdog he thanked the people at st marys social club the place his father used to drink in radcliffe, manchester. He actually took the oscar to the social club and you could say hello to him he was extremely friendly, great man indeed.
awww... that sucks they couldn't get past it for so long but great they finally did... that story on the plane is kinda sad; I'm glad their friendship has survived, I love them both...
They were on a plane together and had a chance to talk and make amends, but rather than talk to each other they stayed in their seats until they went to sleep
And Ewan, his wife and Danny were the only ones on 1st class (for hours)...so it was the perfect occasion for a quite private conversation...and didn't happen!
Ahhhh it's one of those things that shouldn't have gone anywhere but went on far too long and things got awkward. You hit that ceiling where the two of you don't even know what you were angry about in the first place but don't know how to patch it up.
you know this is why graham norton is the best seasoned host out there, i love the way he handled this, other interviewers would have asked this question in such a pretentious emotional deep way which would've just made it awkward but graha just charged into the question with a great positive energy and humour which killed the tension even before it rose.
Star Wars (the first prequel movie) came out in 1999 and The Beach came in 2000, so they were pretty close and it's fair to assume the shoots were overlapping.
Hey mate, the correct term is "wouldn't have". "wouldn't of" isn't really a thing, you probably know, but if not here's a friendly fun fact / half polite grammar nazi correction.
Emma x You do realise that the guests tell the studio what they want brought up in the show, right? The discussions are scripted, and Graham brings up what the guests want him to. That's how talk shows work.
That's so relatable. We all have friends the grown apart from each other and now I think how irrational I was. Hope we'll have the courage and grace to handle this kind of situation in life.
Sometimes though friendships just grow apart. But its good to reconnect before its too late. I found out earlier this year that my best friend in highschool had died of a heart attack last year. That really upset me because we just hadnt spoken much at all after highschool and then grew different ways,. After school, I joined a punk band and went down that whole path, and he was an LA rock and roll dude, and we where both very diffent. But looking back, actually we where both pretty damn similar and it really came down to genre, and I wish we had stayed in touch, because I had so much love for that guy. Reconnect, before its too late.
That airplane story is priceless. I can so relate to trying to start a difficult conversation when the stage is set perfectly to initiate the conversation… but you just chicken out 😆
Danny Boyle was still trying to make it in Hollywood and probably he had to obey to the producer who wanted it Leo to sell more tickets...that´s why probably he dropped out of Hollywood and returned to the UK to shoot the indie film 28 days later which was a huge it...Curiosly after that when he went on to make Sunshine and the studios wanted a bigger name than Cillian Murphy who had previously been the lead in 28 days later and this time Danny didn´t gave in...lesson learned. Also I don´t think that Ewan can really complain e was in Star Wars(even thought the films were not good, well it´s Star Wars),Moulin Rouge that was a huge it and Black Hawk Down(badass film),all films that compared to ''The Beach'' were more impactfull and IMO better. I just hope that these two after T2 can worked together in another film!
I've often thought a hugely important part of any TV series or film is casting people who are perfect fit for their characters. Looking at them all there you can see Renton in McGregor, Johnny's sarcastic wit is pure Sickboy, Robert Carlyle looks like a quiet guy who could explode in a nanosecond and glass someone, and Ewen Bremner is..........well........he's a bit Spudlike!
i love The Beach movie. Danny Boyle and his visual ideas are breathtaking. From the 90s, the beach always inspired a lot of people. A traveller's idea of a paradise. (before it gets ugly)
For some of us it just goes, my own went super quick before I was even 25. It's funny you care enough to comment on it, highlighting your own insecurities. It's just hair bro, some of us even look better without it. It's a shame there's people out there somewhat like yourself that think it matters whatsoever
heels mojo yeah that’s one thing but when you’re friends and the role was originally going to go to you and you were set, you prepared and was ready to get to work on your friends next great film. Then to be replaced by a relatively bigger name..it kind of hurts in a brotherly bond/betrayal kind of way
Interesting the way Ewan touching his fist hand smoothly whith his other hand, whyle Boyle explains "the story", we can feel his very deep emotion. (..."He as to Handle" like Boyle says...).
I can understand Danny Boyle using Leo because at the time it was a smart financial move to use him. I remember Ewan was set to star in the film but when Life less ordinary didn't meet well with critics or audience. The studio pressure to greenlight The Beach with a larger budget using leo was too good to pass up.
Damn, I loved the first Trainspotting. I was 11 when it came out and watched it with my sister on VHS numerous times. Seeing these guys now - damn, I feel really old.
Another reason why Graham's show is one of the best, he can go from the funniest interviews to the most tear jerker ones by creating a really comfortable environment for his guests.
Just a Plank over 200 likes on your comment and not even a single reply? This is preposterous. Now let me do the honours.
alan carr is good too.
ronnie marx ah he doesn't compare at all with this legend
You guys are all forgetting that Michael Parkinson was the guy who actually did the best interviews. Every time.
Yeah he made meg ryan really open up
It's actually really nice to see a "celebrity feud" be discussed with such maturity and honesty; both admit what they did to contribute to the conflict with humility. Again, so nice.
Wow, faced with a very difficult question and they both handled it like absolute gents. Admirable
Oh come on, every talk show goes over what they can and can't ask before the show starts.
@@Splotched sometimes questions are difficult to answer even when you know they're coming.
@@bryanewyatt Agreed. Plus forgiveness is a process, and declarations of mutual forgiveness often occur prematurely.
I think Graham is the only interviewer who can pull this off... there probably was a pre-interview but still, pretty graceful, hilarious interview.
probably was a pre-interview... and some. lawyers, pr, fixers, etc etc
"I was so upset I actually did The Beach with Danny" LOL!!
ffsf739 lmao
I actually really liked The Beach even though it was a flop apparently. I read the book by Garland in the 7th grade and a year later heard that they were making the movie... was excited. I also lived in Thailand for 5 years so really related to it.
I love The Beach too.
I loved it too!
That is not obi wan kenobi shaving beard being bald
I know I say this a lot about most guests, but I didn't expect Danny himself to turn up on the show - I hope this leads to more directors ending up on the couch
some directors are more public like danny, tarintino, smith, bay, JJ, martin, and others. And some writers like Aaron Sorkin.
Kevin Smith
kevin smith
CaptainGrumpy dannys a really cool bloke, heres a bit of knowledge for you....as and when he won the oscar for slumdog he thanked the people at st marys social club the place his father used to drink in radcliffe, manchester. He actually took the oscar to the social club and you could say hello to him he was extremely friendly, great man indeed.
he went there probably because of this story
That bit about the plane and the lights... that explains men pretty well!
Graham is such a good interviewer. He was able to turn such an emotional answer into a hilarious moment
It's so great to see celebrities openly express their friendship with each other.
awww... that sucks they couldn't get past it for so long but great they finally did... that story on the plane is kinda sad; I'm glad their friendship has survived, I love them both...
sorry i couldnt really get what ewan was saying along that line.. can somebody type it out?
They were on a plane together and had a chance to talk and make amends, but rather than talk to each other they stayed in their seats until they went to sleep
thanks......
And Ewan, his wife and Danny were the only ones on 1st class (for hours)...so it was the perfect occasion for a quite private conversation...and didn't happen!

Yes, Danny Boyle talks about grace and there it was, in front of him. I love Graham.
Classy. Classy, down to earth, loyal people chatting. Piers Morgan wouldn't understand
TruncaTech Ew. Please don't bring that thing up here 😷
What about Piers Morgan? Can someone explain?
its amazing to see how they handled a difficult question they were terrific :)
How does Graham Norton get people to open up about things without making it awkward or gossipy? Very skillful.
That’s the raw reality of life...we don’t always do things right but it’s how we handle it afterwards. Everyone deserves a second chance.
The fact that these very public social celebrates are willing to share their awkward human interactions on the show is really sweet.
OMGoD the love is so deep Danny is actually tearing up while talking about it and Ewan’s face. It’s well sweet
thank you Danny for not casting him in that film, because if you had, Ewan wouldn't of played obi wan in star wars! so thank God he cast Leo instead!
Sam Armstrong ewan said so in an interview that he put off saying yes to star wars because he was waiting to on confirmation about the beach
Star Wars (the first prequel movie) came out in 1999 and The Beach came in 2000, so they were pretty close and it's fair to assume the shoots were overlapping.
Leo and his Americanisms were the worst things about The Beach. Ruined a potentially very good movie.
Hey mate, the correct term is "wouldn't have".
"wouldn't of" isn't really a thing, you probably know, but if not here's a friendly fun fact / half polite grammar nazi correction.
MetObsessed thanks! a classic case of trying to put 'northern' slang into written word!
The description has trippled my respect for this show.
Brilliant interjection by Robert Carlyle on The Beach.
They all handled this so well, including Graham, like I would become a nervous wreck if I were asked a question like this
Most presenters i find questions like this quote tactless but graham went about this so right
Don't normally get emosh about chat shows but that got me a bit teary eyed.
Two guys who genuinely like and respect each other being honest about a painful falling out.
I honestly love those guys.
Stop digging Graham. Stop digging it up
Why? That's why Graham is good.
thats like... his whole set up
Emma x You do realise that the guests tell the studio what they want brought up in the show, right? The discussions are scripted, and Graham brings up what the guests want him to. That's how talk shows work.
mind RUINED lol
LOL, the guests tell him what they want to talk about before they go on the show.
aw this is so beautiful, graham is the best interviewer on the planet
That's so relatable. We all have friends the grown apart from each other and now I think how irrational I was. Hope we'll have the courage and grace to handle this kind of situation in life.

Ewan tearing up cause Danny's complimenting him, Awww
love seeing people get over problems and be positive for the future
Graham is so so good at what he does. Just... bloody brilliant.
That airplane story is priceless. I can so relate to trying to start a difficult conversation when the stage is set perfectly to initiate the conversation… but you just chicken out 😆
It's so Sweet to watch them talking about their feud with Grace and love as true friends
Yes where would the world be without the grace and courage of actors.
Shallow Grave is an underrated classic! Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle would make a remarkable Doctor/Master duo!
i never knew Rumple had a sense of humour!
Mishell - OMG I just thought to myself is that Rumple? It threw me for a loop.
Mishell - Rumple looks great! Shorter hair suits him.
i always thought his best look was when he played Nicholas Rush
I'd feel really intimidated if I ever saw these four actors together in one place. Cannot un-see Trainspotting.
this was a heartwarming interview , really .
First there's an opportunity, then a betrayal
"courage is grace under pressure"
well this was handled brilliantly by all parties... we have our own feuds though hahah
You would never ever see anything like this on American talk shows. This is why I love Graham's show.
Some 70s American Talk Shows WERE like that, but for some reason they all switched over to the Tonight Show format.
congratulations graham on your NTA!
Robert Carlyle's response is gold.
Cannot wait to watch this tonight. So excited!
" Courage is Grace under pressure ".
Such a great creative collaboration. Glad it's gotten going again.
Love Danny Boyle’s movies! Side Note: Those accents 😍
I LOVE The Beach. Boyle, I want it on Bluray!!!!!
Dabid Arriola read the book. movie is terrible.
TheGageinator I've read the book three times. And I like the movie also
Watching this video made me realize I had never heard Ewan McGregor speaking off character with his actual accent! Use that accent more often, man!
You could make a great novel or film out of that one moment the two of them in an empty 1st class.
i love The Beach movie. Danny Boyle and his visual ideas are breathtaking. From the 90s, the beach always inspired a lot of people. A traveller's idea of a paradise. (before it gets ugly)
I love Ewan McGregor
My two favorite people on earth.
Jijia Bai who?
he stole that 'courage is grace under pressure' line from Hemingway lol
A Life Less Ordinary is so good.
I love Robert Carlyle, he's so amazing talented & funny too :)
Ewan is such a good dude
Good! Now that they've buried the hatchet, Danny and Ewan can go make an Obi-Wan in the desert movie!
the Shallow Grave is my favorite of Danny.
Thanks for posting.
I'm on a roll of watching Ewan McGregor videos and in every one he loses a bit of his hair
For some of us it just goes, my own went super quick before I was even 25. It's funny you care enough to comment on it, highlighting your own insecurities. It's just hair bro, some of us even look better without it. It's a shame there's people out there somewhat like yourself that think it matters whatsoever
Very respectful
its crazy cus I read the beach and ewan would have been so perfect for that character but life is strange and its sad they stopped talking
"We had our own feuds going on..."
Robbie u are a legend!!
Ewan would've been great in the beach! Maybe even better than Leo
Jerich0 Ewan would've worked great because in the book Robert was a brit.
yeah robert was in the beach film. he was brillaint
love Robert Carlyle
Waw, that went very deep, very quickly. Superb.
Beautiful Iyanla-Oprah moment with bros.
I always enjoyed The Beach and Di Caprio's performance but I could also really see Ewan Mcgregor in that film too 🎬🎥❤
A great team, easy to forget how excellent, original and groundbreaking Trainspotting is.
An actor should not expect a director to cast them in every single movie they produce.
heels mojo yeah that’s one thing but when you’re friends and the role was originally going to go to you and you were set, you prepared and was ready to get to work on your friends next great film. Then to be replaced by a relatively bigger name..it kind of hurts in a brotherly bond/betrayal kind of way
Ewan’s narcissism is so apparent. He got some fame and it went to his head.
The studio pressure to greenlight The Beach with a larger budget using leo was too good to pass up.
Sigh, miller has aged. They all have, and so have I. 😭
Glitter Pig you've aged like milk
From the guy that doesn't even have a photo
Robbie McKenzie now every time I see milk, I'll cry. thanks!
Time makes fools of us all
Well I guess high school is never over
Danny Boyle is such a sweet dude
Forgot that Robert Carlyle was in The Beach. He was great as Daffy.
Graham is the master.
Boyle looks like an old and bold Morrissey.
Only Grahame could have brought this up and generated laugh and good chats out of it.
The description writer being serious for once haha
Damn, I loved the first Trainspotting. I was 11 when it came out and watched it with my sister on VHS numerous times. Seeing these guys now - damn, I feel really old.
I hold Robert Carlyle in a far higher regard then Ewan megregor as an actor and as a man , I prefer the Glasgow folks too
Ewen made two appearances on the show in the space of 3 months. Must be a record.
1:19 THAT BODY LANGUAGE -- HE IS VISUALISING TAKING HIM APART
I love you Graham!!!! Wish I Could Sit there Once!
Annoys me that we are two weeks behind the U.K. for the show on BBC America
3:56 was a really cute laugh from Graham #nothomobutstill
when are they uploading the entire episode. T2 cast is the best
Graham needs to get those lights raised or something. Every episode is just everyone sweating their cods off.
Graceful, tactful and yet witty interview about some pretty serious past issue. Graham is more than just a host who lets his guest speak.
I'm really tired and I heard Graham say #tagteamdanny 😂😂😂
showing class
Ohh! Master Ewan (Obi-Wan Kinobi) The force is so strong.
Carlyle is the best!
Remake the beach with Ewan 😁😁😁
