With longer story lines you’re able to develop empathetic characters. In shorter tales, it seems the author builds up the gore and leaves the characters out. Great job. Love the lengthy stories!

The things i noticed at the end of the story that clicked at the beginning.
When he left the cave and spent the night up in a tree, the creature came out but couldn't find him because of the storm.
The only reason i can think of why it went to Bill's lookout instead of the MC's was because Bill drove his vehicle and the creature heard it where as the MC had walked back instead of collecting his vehicle.

There are many stories about creatures being in the deeper subway systems! I believe the many horror stories of the human monster's that exist help keep their existence well hidden, also if no1 gets out alive. There's no1 to tell how, and exactly where they live, and hide.

Ranger stations should have a hoist system to winch up supplies rather than having to carry them up the stairs, the hoist system and a rescue basket could be utilized to transport an incapacitated Ranger safely to the ground for a medivac flight.

Old houses and barns had a small roof projection in front, with a beam and tackle/ pulley just below, and a big opening/door for large and heavy objects. Seems odd that watch towers don’t have something like that.

  • @michelelyons9410

This was an excellent, really creepy story. What I found particularly creepy was at the beginning of the story, where the ranger is investigating the cavern because he hears what he thinks is the voices of lost campers. At first, as a listener, it seems confusing that the campers are not responding to the ranger's calls. But then, when the ranger takes flight, he fears his own voice, repeating words he said earlier. He realizes, just as the listener does, that he is listening to "something" that is mimicking human voices in order to lure him. Just the way that humans use animal calls to lure their prey into range. Now that is so creepy that I could feel chills!
The journal that the ranger found is a marvelous story point that is used to very good effect. Frankly, this would make a great movie! But there are still unanswered questions. Why was the mine not permanently closed? Someone knew about the danger----Billy certainly did. The mine entrance was shut with a metal gate. But why was it not shut permanently with explosives? And who were the mysterious people who know about the creature, that Billy was trying to contact? We never did find out how Billy knew about the mine and the monster, or who else knew, or who put the metal gate at the front of the mine. The description of the monster was terrific---it did not fall back on the old trope of it being a Bigfoot or a Skinwalker. I really liked the ending where the protagonist lives and kills the monster. Far, far too many of these stories end with the protagonist dead or worse, and that common ending just takes all the thrill out of the story. But the ending, while good, is a bit unsatisfying. What happens next? The protagonist will have no problem proving his story, with the body of the creature and all the other evidence being plain. Does he go back to the mine, to seal it shut with dynamite? I know I sure would! And what was Billy story? I would have loved to find out.
Excellent story, well worth listening to. Well written, excellently told. The narrator's voice is excellent, his tone and cadence adding to the story. I very highly recommend this one!

I live at the base of a mountain and can see the fire tower from my house. Back in the early 1980's I was offered the job of fire tower watch. I thought about it, it seemed like a dream job, but I was in my early twenties and alone is not what I was looking for at the time! Today I know of a place where you can rent a fire tower for the weekend like a cabin at the lake kind of thing. It would be much fun to do so, but I can't climb all those stairs anymore!! If you have never been in a fire tower before there are a few things that are a strike against renting one. First off, no bathroom! If you gotta go, you gotta go downstairs to the outhouse! Second, you have to carry everything up all those stairs! But I would love to tell scary stories in one of the fire towers with a group of 12 year olds!! I scared the crap out of my kids and some of their friends when they were young!! Scary stories and camping go hand in hand!! Love your narrations!!

500 SNW Magnum is a very large and powerful projectile , considering there are no Grizzlies in the Eastern woodlands of TN. I get it trust me, its cool as all get out , BUT 460XVR Magnum is a more versatile, considering that it will also fire the extremely capable 454 Casual , which will handle anything out here, and is a handful in its own right. 😂

Contrary to popular belief, your "gut feeling" is not usually correct. That's old school Hollywood BS. Any trained professional in human behavior can tell you that. Your also under order from your supervisor to return to your post. He repeated that request numerous times and you are not geared or prepared for a high risk rescue. That's why there's SRT. Whatever happens at this point is on you. Follow orders and stay alive and employed or follow your "gut" and, well...

Lmao got enough service to call his buddy but didn’t call anyone for backup as he drove there ? Makes no sense coulda called backup as he drove to his buddy’s rescue so at least they had backup so what if it took an hour and a half at least eventually even after he got there to help his buddy is things went sideways for them both they’d EVENTUALLY have backup
