I adore my gretsch g5120! I put jazz D'adario strings and a little bit of reverb, some bluesy backing tracks and it's the next best thing to heaven! Btw, if you find a black falcon hanging around with your white one, please send it to me. I'll even tuck it in and kiss it goodnight! Stay safe and well!

@@Jockeylotforfun For the time being I've got my now discontinued G5126 in fabulous silver sparkle and De Armond pickups which is a lovely guitar......but it's not a Falcon that I crave, it's a Penguin. In Cadillac Green, and with gold hardware. It's such a rare bird to find in England, I can't find one anywhere 😢

@@JammyGit I don't know if they make the Penguin in green, ( gorgeous color btw) but you may be able to special order it directly from Gretsch. I actually found two Penguins at guitar center (dot com) which, searches the entire USA. One is a 1958 reissue, the other is casino gold. Here's a link..... www.guitarcenter.com/Gretsch-Guitars/G6134T-58-Vintage-Select-58-Penguin-with-Bigsby-Hollowbody-Electric-Guitar.gc Oh, another thing to mention. Guitar center has a monthly payment plan at ZERO interest if paid off in 24 months...Sooo, that makes your Penguin around $130/month in Us dollars. Agreed... I know the reviewer says that it’s essentially the same guitar construction as the G6118 Anniversary but it sounded much smoother and less “harsh” to my ears. Clearly as the specs are essentially the same this is just a natural variation from one guitar to the next (I don’t think anyone would claim that the finish colour or the neck binding will contribute to these sound differences! 😛) so it would be wrong to read anything in general into this... another reason to try before you buy if you can, although I’d be more than happy with the G6118 from this video as it’s still a great sounding guitar.

I like the playing, the guitars, the run-through of the pickups on each guitar, and the playing with the track. It’s all good, as far as it goes, BUT...this otherwise excellent demo has the same deficiency that afflicts so many other guitar videos - namely, the apparent presumption that everything must always have some distortion.
Has it actually come to the point where clean sound is so unpopular and out of fashion that almost no one thinks its worth including it in guitar demo videos?
I understand that driving an amp into harmonic distortion can fatten the sound, increase sustain, and be exactly the right sound for the right music. I use it myself, although I usually go for a smoother OD sound than this video used, with less break-up and dirt. But admittedly that’s a matter of preference.
But I don’t use OD/distortion for everything. Shouldn’t a comprehensive guitar demo - especially for guitars like these Gretsch beauties, which traditionally were known for their clean sound - also include a run-through without distortion? I think so.
To be clear, I’m not criticizing anything the video included. I’m talking about what was missing. A supplementary video demonstrating the guitars’ clean, undistorted sounds would be awesome, and most greatly appreciated.

I love the sound of the Falcon. But it was so much bigger then I anticipated. I have MS, and I felt that the weight of it was hurting my back too much. Which Gretsch sounds almost as good but cheaper then a 6120?

    Was the tremolo really necessary?

It's part of the guitar. Deal with it.

Guitar Man Funny how you call yourself guitar man yet dont know a very obvious effect going on after the guitar signal. Though, apparently its not that obvious for some people.

+Guitar Man are you talking about the vibrato bar? Guess what idiot it's not actually meant to be called a tremolo, he is talking about the actual modulation affect tremolo

When did they remove the tone switch from the 6118? All other Anniversary models I've seen have both pickup selector and tone switch.

GREAT demo! It helped me make up my mind on a 6118T. Is your backing track available anywhere please?

I’ve tried TV Jones PUs Country Gentelman 6122 but they sounded too bluesy for a Gretsch guitar. I préfère the stock Filtertrons PUs .

It doesn't look like you could adjust the intonation on any of the four guitars shown. Am I mistaken?
