I gravitate to a lot of female vocalists, but Eivør OMG. As others have already said, ‘Falling Free (Live at the Old Theatre in Torshavn)’ is a must watch, one of the truly great all-time live performances. Totally different image of her singing in English with electric guitar in hand in this small intimate venue.
The singing has been analyzed by “the charismatic voice” and there are so many elements in this song that are unique but also the theme about her being connected to a Galdr-madur (Man of Galdr), where galdr is the singing done to control enemies and madur is just the definite form of man, call it a magical chant… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galdr . She sings in Färöese which is a linguistic isolate which still carries many of the forms of the old norse language (like Icelandic). Your reaction is fantastic also.
She's from the Faroe Islands but, this is on a fjord in Norway. There are some requests here but no links, for some reason. Here's a beautiful official video of her song "True Love" - th-cam.com/video/yJL39PFjMXM/w-d-xo.html Here a link to a fan favorite, "Falling Free" - th-cam.com/video/KNPIdGBn7M4/w-d-xo.html
As soon as I saw this pop up I thought "Oh, I bet he's really going to enjoy this one" Her voice is magical. I don't think you can pick a bad video of hers, and I do hope you continue to explore her catalog. You know, she appeared at Wacken 2023 and there are videos of that performance on line. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll get to see her live in 2024.
I truly hope I am that lucky! Seems that my trip might be extending an extra week because there is another Festival a mere six days after WACKEN ends in which a band I have been wanting to see for years is playing... If being able to see her is added to that, it will indeed be an amazing trip!
It is completely my pleasure. That is one of the very reasons that I am doing this. There is so much amazing music out there to be heard! Thank you very much for your comment!
The echos of generations passed, ring into my subconscious where these memories sill resides, whether it be Denmark where this fantastic vocalist hales or The "Gipsy Kings" with their tribal flamingo or the "HU" with the sounds of Mongolia. Ms. Eivør Pálsdótti transports us with skill, to those earth bound connections that have been forgotten, but not lost. Rb
I'm no expert, but AFAIK, her name is pronounced I-VOR. "Falling Free" - Live at the Old Theater in Torshavn, is another side of her that really shows off her gorgeous vocals. I highly recommend that one next.
@@ThePentagenarian she also made music for the netflix series the last kingdom and the computer game gods of war. the last kingdom main theme live at hammersmith apollo is great, but also her other huge catalog of amazing songs: wake me up, live gloomy sunday truth live at studio bloch slor london solo sessions í tokuni music video boxes live 2012 true love live 2012 the list is endless and whatever you pick will amaze you
Personally, I would love to live "in the middle of nowhere". I did for a while, and it was the best part of life. Nowhere is definitely the best somewhere... and that is all I was trying to say. :-)
Now this is funny: When I listened to this I started wondering if she knows Mari Boine (I recommended one of Mari Boine's songs to you in my comment to your Helvegen-reaction). So I did an online search which brought me to an article in which Eivør shares four albums which have been a major influence on her music and guess what, one of these four albums is by Mari Boine! And the album she mentions, "Goaskinviellja", is exactly the album whose title track I recommended to you! The article about Eivør also contains a link to the same live version of this song which I mentioned in my comment. Now you have got another reason to check out that live clip! Some of Eivør's vocals also remind me of Sainkho Namtchylak, but I couldn't find any information if she also knows her music.
Fate is a funny thing! I have Mari all set to be reacted to. One should ignore the signs given by the old gods. 🤣 Thank you for your comment and patience!
Eivør is one of the great singing goddesses of the north winds.

Her vocals like Maria Franz from Heilung are stunning and oh so soothing and primal 🥰
