    I was so close to buying this a few months ago, but then I found out that the way the looper works is nothing like I had in mind. Now that I see the case flexing when pressure is applied I'm again grateful I haven't. Still it does sound really good. I wish it was half the price then I'd buy it for outdoor fun.

    I own this keyboard.
    Really nice Keybed, no latency in the interface. Amazing sounds (even the GMS built-in are pretty good actually). The 128 notes poliphony, which is basically what you could found not so long ago on more expensive workstation, means that you can torture the hell out of It in the recording section without issues. The only 2 things that this Little keyboard doesn't have are the sound layer function and the metronome..It also sound really good when recorded into DAWs via USB soundcard,

    Hi, nice review! I'm thinking of buying this keyboard to use in my band, however I was wondering about the output and how it sounds connected to a PA/digital mixer? I noticed the ouput is on 1/8 rather than a 1/4 jack. Have you tried connecting the output to powered speakers and/or a digital mixer, and what was the sound quality like? Were there any audio artifacts? Also, can the speakers be switched off when it's connected to external speakers?

  • @Inaworldoflove

    MY REVIEW:
    I bought this because I needed a new MIDI controller for my compositions and love a keyboard with nice keys. If you want a piano like experience with your keyboard, this is one I can recommend. I did have trouble connecting this keyboard to my DAW with the bluetooth. It worked briefly. I gave up trying to fix that and went and bought a USB connection (sadly not included in the box.) After that, it's been a great MIDI controller.
    Sadly, the speakers built into this unit are not good quality. I prefer to use this with headphones on if I'm going to play around. It's good to connect your phone/tablet to it and put on your music because you can play along to the music. This is a great way to learn music, you just keep hitting the keys until you find the key the song is in and play along. I've learnt lots of great chord patterns doing this.

    Of course you can learn but you can fine a better keyboard better then this for learning focus piano song.

      Thank you for this insight. I was hoping to buy this for my 1 year old. But wanted some semi-weighted keys. I liked that this has lots of other sounds and looping etc to keep him engaged and give more dimension but definitely don't want to encourage bad technique. Really just something that's fun but also does the fundamentals.

I think I'm buying this to add a reasonable selection of sounds to the only other synth I own, which is the slightly redder Roland keytar that clashes exactly the same on the redder side as this dude's slightly clashing pinker shirt, which I also have to buy to further the theme this dude has started of clashing reds.

    Thankfully, Roland refined this concept with the Go Keys 3 and especially the Go Keys 5. Real buttons and a real pitch bend wheel! The 5 is nearly a professional instrument.
    The membrane "buttons" scream cost-cutting. You will not appreciate them if you are performing live.

    Thanks for the decent review.
    My Roland Go arrives today, and I'm stoked to jam on it. I wanted something to get my little ones into playing the keys. A factor I liked for my kids (as well as myself), was the unique feel of the keys. The action seems a bit lower in that you don't have to push down so far, like a normal piano. The keys aren't weighted, but they aren't 'clacky' either. The sound (Roland) is always fantastic.
    If people want more sounds, plug it into a computer and use it as a midi controller. Quit complaining. The pricetag is more than fair.

    I have a couple guitar reverb ambient pedals, can they be connected to this keyboard to create even more ambient sounds ?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, iemore40! This definitely can work. The important consideration here is that the GO:KEYS only has an 1/8” stereo output. You will need to break that signal out to two mono ¼” connections in order for it to work with a guitar pedal. This is the cable for the job: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/IPMB2Q2--pro-co-ipmb2q-2-2-foot
      That cable will allow you to use guitar pedals with stereo inputs. If you have a guitar pedal with only a mono input, you can either choose to only use one side of the stereo signal from the GO:KEYS or sum the two signals together to a single mono output via a box like this:
      www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SummingAmp--jhs-summing-amp

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! If you have a keyboard sustain pedal, there shouldn't be a trick to making the sustain function work inside of the GO Keys - all you'll need to do is plug it into the "pedal" jack on the back of the keyboard. If yours isn't working, perhaps you are using the wrong type of pedal - you'll need a non latching switch to function as a sustain on most keyboards.

    Can I use this as a midi controller for my Yamaha Reface CP?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, D A. Thanks for reaching out about the Roland Go Keys! The only way to use the MIDI with the GO KEYS is via USB or Bluetooth, so controlling your Yamaha Reface CP will not be possible. The Reface has its own MIDI capability though, and has a dedicated 5 Pin MIDI connection that is In/Out (shared). You will want to get a keyboard that also has a 5 Pin MIDI connection as well, and that can easily be found through our site. But if you have any more questions, let me know. Thanks and have a great day!

      Hey, CJ! Thanks for reaching out. You’re correct, this is not like a workstation where you can create and edit more intricate loops (like the Roland Fantoms, for example). The loops in here can be triggered and combined to create your larger loops/songs, but if you want to record your own loops with it you would need to use a DAW or external recorder.
