For those that don’t know, this was filmed in 2010 and aired in 2011. The son is doing better. The CMO of NASCAR who was undercover in the episode is now the President of NASCAR.

Medical costs have gotten crazy! Most hospitals can forgive some of the debt, not all of it though. It may be worth asking your acquaintance to call the hospital and asking them to forgive part of the costs due to no insurance. We also had a family friend who didn’t have insurance but had a high hospital bill due to a heart condition. They called and the hospital took off about 1/2 of the costs. I hope your acquaintance is doing well now.😊

As an Australian watching this.. I have to keep reminding myself that in the USA if your child gets sick, you may have to pay for treatment. You may end up with crippling debt. I can’t imagine being in such a terrible situation with a sick child, and then have to worry about paying for treatment!! I am sooooooo thankful that I live here. Delivering babies, sick children, car accidents, cancer treatment, etc etc.. all covered by our universal healthcare. This was a wonderful story. 🐨🐨❤️

Lol USA isn’t like that at all. We have the best hospitals and we don’t wait in line for weeks like y’all do. Only people who complain are jobless losers who get a couple hundred dollar bill for not having insurance

My Aunt on my mom's side of the family is a breast cancer survivor. You have no idea the toll cancer has on everyone unless you've been in the spot. That was so incredibly generous of the CEO.
