- I upgrade a standard dust collector with a cyclone dust separator from dust deputy. This makes the dust collector much more efficient at separating fines to keep your filter cleaner.

Next on Gate City Wood and Metal Working with Shawn... 😂
So, this is what you do in your spare time 😅. You’re like one of my friends when the apocalypse comes we need guys like you to build the world 🌎 again lol
I have kind of stopped making videos of my hobbies. I mostly mountain bike, scuba dive, and travel
@@GCFDngl, I liked those videos too.
please upload more videos of you working in the shop, I love this type of content as much as your drainage work
Flush cut router... that's going on the 'to buy' list. I can see how that would be handy in a shop. Nice build.
Thank you!
I made my Harbor Freight dust collector a two stage and used nearly the same design. I did not use threaded rod or anything to tighten collection barrel, I made a 2x2 support that easily slides under barrel for tight fit.
Awesome Jeff!
with all cyclonic dust collectors, the most over look problem people don't realize is the lid MUST have a tight seal to the bottom container. If there is a leak at the seal, the vacuum draws air into the container, take debris and dust with it and into the vacuum. Especially prone to the 5 gallon bucket types. I have two dust deputy cyclonic and knowing this solved my problem. So make sure your seal is tight.
Nice job Shaun! I am a woodworker and a welder and I have a delta stand alone dust vacuum that I could do the same to. Thanks for the idea! Love your channel and keep those video’s coming! I am also a fellow North Carolinian just east of you about 2 hours in Washington NC. Take care, Tim
I really wanted to share this build so I'm glad you enjoyed it Tim!
Can watch these all day 😂
Great work Shawn, that's a serious heavy duty dust collector, Great job! and Yes, we enjoy, and appreciate ALL your content, even your hobby, and travel videos. Great looking shop too.
Rube Goldberg would be proud
Looks good. You may end up wanting to revisiting the barrel placement eventually to make it a bit easier to get on and off but it's obviously working as is.
I need this to clean my apartment. Cheers.
Nice work McGyver 😊
The mobile cart is a good idea for your shop. Yours is a lot more sophisticated than my old Craftsman wet/dry vac that has different nozzles and adapters to hook up to different tools. Either way having a dust collection system makes for a way better work area.
Wow great job! You have so many skills it is amazing!
If you flip over that bottom plate with the nut welded on, you’d get a little extra space for the platform to drop because of the space the nut takes. May have to make the hole slightly larger….
Very clever setup though.
Edit…. Just got to the end and see you realized this 👍
Great eye Bob!
Hey! Some almost mini-@CuttingEdgeEngineering vibes today! ETA: Shop made tools, specifically
Love everything about this video, the subject , production ,etc.
I looked into this a couple of years ago for my garage but ,with one thing and another, i never got round to it ,
One thing that really interests me is that i was under the impression that you needed to put an anti vac valve in the bucket to ,basically , stop it imploding on itself !! Apparently you dont need it
Always the round toits ...
Fantastic idea 💡
With diferent content, I enjoyed watching,
Good idea and good job Shaun 👍
Thank you Martin!
Cool design for sure.
Thank you Riley!
V interesting, it’s on my list of jobs to build a dust extraction system. Thanks for the vid😀👋🇬🇧
Thanks for watching!
Shawn, you spent a lot of time messing with the lazy susan etc. An easier solution to lift and drop the bucket would be better if you used a bladder or old inner tube siliconed to the base, maybe an extension air valve. you could drop the bucket by unclamping it at the top, letting the air out. Put the bucket back in position when empty and inflate? There are a few bladders etc out there that could make dropping and lifting the bucket much quicker.
That would be slick!
15:27 Drill an access house through the round base, so that you can attach the lazy susan to the small square base of the plywood.
House? You mean hole. Anyways, you beat me to it. Thumbs up.
Brilliant video Shawn - really great content.
Could you incorporate a quarter- turn cam to lock the platform in a high (sealed) position and a low position for emptying?
Or a small scissor jack (with a welded nut acting as a stop to prevent over tightening) - powered by a dewalt drill 👍
You can resses the lazy Susan. Plates, top and bottom, that could get you another 1/4, inch of clearance
Like it.
Thank you!
Very nice mod, wish i was good enough to do that kind of stuff lol
Drill a hole in the, wooden , round disk, where the, other lazy susan hole is , like an inspection hole,
Very nice, Aggg Sacrificing the fernco which actually makes it quite impressive, Would mounting the Whole assy on the side with that flange 1/2" higher with adjustable (slot ) mounts etc give any extra adjustable space for the bucket below ( without the squeeze ) ??? it wouldnt take much to get the extra space.
I'm interested in the large sandpaper holders, how he attached the pipe to the wall
Check out Jared's channel Self Reliance Essentials
i wonder if changing to 30fps would help or hurt the horizontal banding from the lighting.
I’ve tried but I need to do something.
I need a French drain in Columbia SC. Do you guys travel?
Glad to say im the 1st to comment. Was busy looking for some good videos to watch...and voila!...im in luck
Awesome!
Shawn, you are playing russian roulette without welding gloves and body protection! It only takes ‘once’ to change your life forever !!! 🧐🤨
Air filtration should be more of a hyped topic. The smoke outside is so bad today that I can barely see my neighbors house. They must be burning down all the Amazon for WWIII farms for war-food.
If you care about your respiratory health you care about dust. On the job and in the shop.
