CUT ONE INCH OFF OF THE LENGTH! Whoever calculated the length as three times the width didn’t take into account the difference the seam allowance makes. My bag was 36”x12”, and it ended up very lopsided. I made another one using 35”x12” and it was perfect. THE MATH: If you remove 1/4” seam allowance from the width, you need to remove 3/4” seam allowance from the length. Of course you’re not going to make a 3/4” seam allowance, so you need to remove the additional 1/2” from each seam. 1/2” + 1/2” = 1 inch.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this gorgeous and stunning origami bag. The fabrics are really really stunning and cute and adorable too. I really really love ❤️ it it’s so adorable too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
I’m going to make five adult bags and one smaller for my granddaughter. I’m going to use a rotary cutter. Much more even cuts. Thank you for your video. Very thorough.
I've made this bag and it turned out beautifully. thank you! I saw a bag with the same crossover bady, but the pointy ends were longer and tied into a knot, no separate sewed on straps. I can't figure out how to do this. the pointy ends are never long enough for shoulder straps. Any thoughts or suggestions?
This is WONDERFUL! When I measured the 1X3 width to length (14X 42) I ended up with a rectangle instead of a square during the folding stage and had to shorten - any tips on how to get that square in the middle?!
Mine is more rectangular. If you are wanting it to be square I would say that you would have to shorten the length, but I am not sure by how much. Next time I go to make this bag I will play around with the dimensions... In the meantime, does anyone else have any thoughts on this?
Hold up? I know how to sew and i’ve followed your directions to the letter. Body: 15 x 45 , straps etc. But at the 2:50 mark when you say ‘fold the bag diagonally, the right side ‘doesn’t match up. There’s “At least” a 3” gap and trying to put the sides together doesn’t work the way you are showing. It looks exactly the same UNTIL you say “make the big diagonal fold. It doesn’t match up. I’ve just wasted my fabric. Call you help?
Hi there. There will be a slight gap before you clip the sides and sew. It is so the bag has a little depth to it and isn't entirely flat. You just want to pull those sides together. It may help to fold the bag in the other direction (so the side seams are on the edges) but for the videos sake I showed it the way the bag will lay naturally. Hopefully that helps.
If revising this video - a novice sewer would sure be happy to know that each step should be ironed/pressed so edges are more precise. Sorry - old Home Ec rules rearing their head.
This is a great tip and if you are a novice sewing reading this, do this for literally every project. The end result is going to look way more professional 👌

Short and sweet and so cute!!!!! Very well done, to give alternate size directions was excellent! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I would iron the fabric, I would use interfacing, I would reinforce and finish all seams.
Great tips!
the fabrics are wonderful!

Thanks! I’ll try this. My bag was off centre and I couldn’t figure out why.
Love this! I just crocheted one of these and lined with fabric now I'm ready for an all fabric one. Thank you for this easy tutorial!😊
You are so welcome! Good luck with the rest of your bags!
Thank you! I have a book that has instructions for this same bag, but it’s not explained this well at all. This was very helpful.

I like the label on the Fabric scissors. 👍

That is just amazing. I subscribed.
Welcome! Thank you!!
thank you!
Great tutorial! I do have a question. Based on your measurements, what is the approximate finished size of the bag?
I would say about 2'x1.5'
