Hi Steve. Wonderful images of some very magnificent animals. If this was a tough year for elk, I can’t imagine what a good year would be like…although I hope to experience it.
Suggest you share your concerns/comments with your local photo tour operators. I had several setups interrupted this year by vans filled with tourists and led by your competitors that moved in and took over the place. GTNP is a real jewel but like so many other of our wild places is being ruined by inconsiderate individuals and tour operators. Jealous of the time you’re able to spend there and the excellent work you do. Thanks as always for sharing.
Last year I visited this wonderland of wildlife and found what you say to be sadly true, however,as that was my first time with no idea of where to go I followed a couple of vans to a few select locations, which I later used to my benefit.I also observed that most of the photographers were not as avid as you may think as the vans only stopped for 15-20 minutes leaving me with the fruits of their labor, cheap of me…nope, just glad I never signed up to be in one of those groups.
The videos and photos at the end were truly spectacular, especially the long scene of the giant chasing and bugling. Thanks for your time in producing and publishing it, it really took me away for while!
So often people don't have enough lens for wildlife photography and attempt to get closer on foot. Very short sighted. Thanks for posting. Great footage of the fight.
I agree. I didn't get good shots of Moose this year because of people wanting to get closer to them which kept them in the tree line. Messed it up for the rest of us. It does happen a lot.
One of the downfalls of wildlife photography is having people being totally inconsiderate. A very nice montage at the end of the video and I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Christmas. Looking forward to the next one.
Beautiful footage, Steve!! (I’m watching this from inside the Park…hope to run into you this week.) Happy holidays to you and yours! Stay safe and stay warm! Thank you for another year!!😊
Always great content Steve. We have been trying to make it out to the Tetons for a few years now. Maybe soon as it is on my list of places to visit and photograph. Long drive from Michigan tho. Have a good holiday
Awesome video again, Steve. Bummer about the jerks though. Hey I've been following your page for awhile now and had a question. I've been looking at the beanbag you use. Could you share where you bought it, please? I shoot a lot from my truck and that would be a great addition to my gear. Thanks in advance, Brother.
I try really hard to be even overly considerate. If I see somebody else shooting, I usually won’t go in front of them. Mistakes can happen, but I try to be really intentional to not screw it up for other people. But you are correct, even in the Tetons this fall I was having problems with people getting way too close to the moose. There was a moose in my campsite and I probably had 50 people walking through my campsite set up Shop asking if they could sit in my chairs. It was pretty insane.
I've heard of bad moose encounters, bison and, of course, bears, but do you know of any bad elk encounters resulting in a threatening or violent interaction? We had a bunch of photographers show up for our first productive eagle's nest, down here on the gulf coast, but almost everyone kept a pretty respectful distance and silence. Most of my photographs had to be made with a 2x converter on the 35mm equivalent of a 800mm lens. Both eaglets fledged and we now have two more juvenile eagles in the park.
That elk situation is not just in the US...but those people were not smart about animal safety. If the bull was still bugaling the potential that the bull charges is very high. In Canada, federally anyway, that behavior could be seen as harassing wildlife which is covered under the regulations (could lead to a charge).... anyway it's frigging annoying when it happens. Unethical behavior at best! Beautiful video Steve. And if you want more snow, we are starting our second snow storm in two days. Happy to send the winter stuff your way😅!!
I totally get it about other photographers. What infuriates me are the "cell phone" photographers. Great video as always. Have you made it out the Pennsylvania for their elk rut? They have some monster out that way.
It's not just the Tetons it's everywhere! People scare eagles away all the time because they want to get closer, if your state wouldn't allow hunting the elk in the park then you all would be like rocky mountain national Park but the state loves the hunting in the park. Not that I am against hunting but I am against hunting in national parks

Loved your video sections! Thanks for sharing. Seems to me you had petty successful workshops even with the warmer weather.

Great elkfolio!
Ha! Thanks!
Great footage Steve, I would like to add a mic to my Nikon z9 for my wildlife videos, do you mind sharing your mic setup? Thanks
Just wondering if you educated them while you had them?

Haha wow, that’s’bold’
Would you mind sharing with me what window beanbag you use. Thanks
Links are in my gear list, link in description

Yes, send it over!
Nice Elk Videos. What do you use to capture the audio? Camera mic, mic on camera or external mic and recorder?
Camera mic unfortunately. I wish I had my external…

Not yet but it looks really great… someday I hope…
Sorry about your Elk Season. My Black Bear Season was not much, I think hunters killed to many last hunting season.
TH-cams own AI-assisted video title translations are absolutely horrible! Please don't use it :D
