  • The World's Smartest Liquid Cooled Mattress Cover is pretty awesome. Grab an Eight Sleep Pod 3 Cover for your own bed here and use my code JERRYRIG for $200 off: www.eightsleep.com/jerryrigev...
    Huge thanks to Eight Sleep for sponsoring this video. I've always known about liquid cooled computers, and liquid cooled vehicles, but a liquid cooled bed makes a whole lot of sense. The Eight Sleep Pod 3 Mattress Cover is able to track your sleeping pattern and adjust the temperature automatically so that your body gets a more restful sleep at night. Plus - This mattress cover has both a built-in thermal alarm clock - as well as little vibration motors to gently wake you up in the morning.

    I gave Eightsleep a serious thought when I was buying my new mattress. However, requiring a subscription for full functionality on a multi-thousand dollar mattress COVER was a deal breaker. BUT it'll also be able do all this neat biometric and automation so you don't have to manually. I've had the pod 3 cover on top of a natural latex mattress I bought for a month. I'd say, if you're not an athlete, or if you don't have trouble falling asleep, you probably won't notice a big difference. I've always had trouble falling asleep, bordering on insomnia occasionally. According to my fitness band, the cover reduced my fall asleep time from 32 minutes avg (30-60 minutes min/max) to 22 minutes avg (21-25 minutes min/max). Even on days where I only sleep for 4 hours I feel much better, the whole-day feeling of "dread" isn't there anymore, it's just "regular tired" now. That being said, it's a great piece of tech and I wish it'll come down in price soon.

    • @MenkoDany
      @MenkoDany 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's a million things you can do starting today to improve your sleep just as much if not more. Cold shower before bed (at least your face) gives about half the benefit I got from 8sleep. Monitoring/cutting caffeine is also very important - find out your caffeine half life absorption, you'll be surprised how much variability there is in the general population, it depends a lot on your genetics. I had both blood work & a genetic test done and I know that my half-life is about 8 hours, but it can depend on a lot of factors too, for example if I drink too much caffeine, the window is longer. Actually for some people, it can be the opposite, the more caffeine you drink, the quicker you metabolise it. As a general rule, cut any caffeine before 16:00. At worst 18:00, if you drink past 18:00 your sleep quality will be heavily impacted. Ideally aim for no caffeine after 12:00 or 14:00. Also wait at least an hour after waking up before taking caffeine, and get at least 30 minutes of sunlight or sunlight-equivalent before your first caffeine intake. Keeping dosage low is also important, remember it's caffeine half-life, so if you take too much it will affect your sleep/stress the same way even if you only take it at a reasonable hour. It will keep cortisol levels on a natural level. I thought I had anxiety issues so I went to the psychiatrist. Turns out I was just overdosing myself on caffeine every day! Generally you want to keep your caffeine intake at ~80mg if you take it daily. But if you're an athlete or you're trying to lose weight, you can take up to 300mg on a short-term basis. When you exercise, you lose caffeine a little faster through sweat + burning fat.
      All that being said, the thing that is great about 8sleep is that you're offloading changing your habits onto technology. You get to sleep better, even if you drank way too much coffee and totally ruined your sleep schedule. It's been amazing at upping my mood, and because I sleep better, I both have more time in the morning and overall it's been a big impact on my quality of life. I wouldn't trade it for anything. It's just a bit too expensive, it was too expensive even for me, had to get financing for it. But it'll pay off in my mental healthy. After all if I lose it, I'll have no income, and any income is better than no income.

    • @MenkoDany
      @MenkoDany 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Also, if you have sensory issues I'd advice against it. My girfriend tried it once and absolutely hated it. I solved it by putting a mattress topper on her half, but it's not ideal either way. And this with with the Pod cover 3, which supposedly has a "significantly improved feel" over the Pod 2. If that's "significantly improved", no wonder the Pod 2 had so many returns. I don't have nearly as many sensory issues as my girlfriend, I think I pretty much fall in the "normal" range albeit on a tail end of it (certain foams give me the ick, and I have the urge to wash my hands the instant they get greasy/dirty, but it's not like overbearing or something that takes much energy to ignore/overcome). Even for me it took 2 nights to get used to the feel of the "grid". I actually enjoy it now, but just FYI. That being said, they have a 30 day return window and from what I've read nobody had an issue returning it
      Oh yes and before I forget, there have been numerous reports of people getting leaks. Supposedly with the latest version of the Pod 3 they "solved" the issues, but who knows. I hope I never get a leak. The subscription thing is bullshit. The autopilot hasn't been 100% worth it for me yet, maybe it's placebo but on the nights that I tried it with the autopilot off, I felt like I slept better. If it weren't for the included 5 year warranty, as well as the fear of leaks, I would stop paying it.

    I’m sure it costs a pretty penny to make one but for the price of one bed cover I could redo, refresh and outfit my entire room (not from U.S.) with enough cash to spare for a quality AC unit… and a tv to boot. As for the subscription, it’s a slap in the face, after a year you could buy an Apple Watch with the same sleep tracking functions and plenty more to boot. Every other control should just be folded into the heat pump which circulates water. I know an app can be convenient - I have a Chinese spy fan which I can rotate and adjust from my phone but it’s an option, I can still do everything by just clicking a button on the damn thing itself. Such a good idea, the execution is garbage.

    I went ahead and purchased a Purple mattress shortly after your factory tour and quickly fell in love with it. Your video on those mattresses helped influence my decision since it addressed most of the things I valued in a mattress.
    I believe that someone else might have that sort of experience based off of this video... If it weren't for this mattress functions being proprietary and subscription tied. For something as expensive and influential to everyday life as a mattress, losing all of that if the company goes out of business is a major downside.

    I own the prior v2 version of this and have owned their products since it was a Kickstarter, and yes, am grandfathered re subscription. But it's a freaking amazing setup and I cannot imagine sleeping without it. Spouse has medical issues and so individual warming/cooling for each side has been amazing. The Kickstarter version was much cruder and had issues, I had a leak with V2 that we spotted early (it's not a lot of water) and a replacement came without argument and it's been flawless. It's allowed us to adjust house heating that saves money as bed is perfect when we go to bed. Don't use the alarms, don't need them. But I'm no doubt going to give V3 or whatever their latest version is a nod when it's time to upgrade. But sure, that's just me and I'm sure other options are better for others re cost and comfort. Just glad we have this available as it really does work great for us. YMMV.
