  • NJS Club Members Chet Moore and Richard Vible, along with President (at the time) Larry Loyko set up an HO Trolley layout at the Shore Mall Holiday Display for the years of 2010-2011. This layout is powered off of the overhead trolley wire. eNjoy!

    The operator of that PCC car would be suspended in a flash for going around that loop and through all that special work at such high speed. Otherwise, a brilliant little film. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing it.

      Ironically the person operating the car at the time was a retired motorman for PTC and SEPTA. He has since passed on, but the video remains. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice layout. In fact.....BEAUTIFUL! But you need people inside the trolleys. I loved the Reddy Kilowatt sign. Those little touches make a big difference.

    You guys did a FANTASTIC JOB modeling the trolley system !!!!!! The street work with the switches is marvelous. I LOVE trolleys, missed them in Brooklyn by 3 years. Now retired I would love to build a layout but the hands don't work like they used to. Keep up the GREAT WORK.

    Loved this video. Very realistic trackwork and overhead wire operation. Nice billboard with Reddy Kilowatt. Great night time operation too. Liked how you had cars representing the 19th century, early 20th century and modern PCC. Great work!

    Great layout! Looking at the tight turns I was reminded of the signs at North Station, Boston that warned pedestrians to beware of the swing of the cars around the curve

    A very nice video and layout. I have plans to expand my own HO scale layout, and while I don't have much room for trolleys, I am proud to be from a city that takes pride in its own trolley fleet.

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure, honestly. I would ask, however the three folks who made this layout are in very different places now, one passed since the making of this video, one has moved to South Dakota, and the other is primarily in to trolley modules and we do not see him as much.

    A working catenary? Big brass ones on youse guyz! That's a spectacular layout especially with the night run. Are the cobblestones prefab or laid and carved? Thanks!

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The layout is powered by the trolley wire. I am not sure on how the cobblestones were done. One individual who built this passed away, another is in South Dakota now, and the third is hard to get a hold of. We'll see if we can get an answer.

      Youz guys is something I would always say only to be corrected by my dad with “ Hughes is a dead chief justice of the Supreme Court . There’s only one city that people say that phrase and it Philadelphia. Actually it can be narrowed down to a few neighborhoods along the river and at an infamous intersection that has the letter’s K&A in its spelling. I’m talking about that neighborhood when everyone I knew as a kid still had a grand parent who spoke with an Irish Brogue; not the disgusting hell hole it’s become today . It breaks my heart seeing my church that woke me up every morning at 6am playing the morning bells for the first mass of the day , sitting a burned out shell of its self .

    Excellently modeled and operating, HO scale layout!
    Very nice background music as well.
    Though it's 12 years later, but I have a question regarding the make of those street lights...
    Are those some sort of Walters street lights?
    I'd like to purchase them if they're still available now.

    Very nice layout! Just curious, are these trolleys powered by the overhead wires or through the track? Thanks!

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! The trolleys are powered by the overhead. The blooper at 8:57 shows one of the cars losing overhead connection.

  • @davidkinser9581
    @davidkinser9581 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How does it run so smooth

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is powered by the overhead wire, so it has less dirt buildup than traditional rail powered track.

  • @petworthtraction

    May we know the dimensions of the layout please?

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is not a layout we currently have access to, and we cannot ask the owner as he recently passed away, so we are unsure of the exact measurements, but it is roughly 2' x 6' if memory serves.

  • @johnbees4443
    @johnbees4443 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How were you able to get the overhead wire and the Pantagraph to touch each other like that? Again the wiring had me impressed how it kept the illusion as it moved

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not an illusion - it is actually powered from the overhead wire. The blooper at the end proves this. It is wired so the overhead wire is electrically one rail and the surface rails are the other rail.

    • @marcvandyck8052
      @marcvandyck8052 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NJSntrak yeah but... how did you make sure that the trolley takes the right direction when taking a turnout ?

    • @NJSntrak
      @NJSntrak  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcvandyck8052 I am not sure exactly, but I think the trolley pole is pulled along by the trolley and it stays in line with where the car goes. The trolleys have switches on the physical track to control which way they go.

    • @garysmith394
      @garysmith394 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NJSntrak I assume there are frogs in the wire which allow the pole to go to the correct wire when the car turns or goes straight through it.

      A great layout, full of detail. I am planning a London trams layout that I can get on to a six foot by three foot board, using “00” gauge track, motor power from the track and lighting from the overhead so that it can stay on when the tram is stationary.
