    Hi Martin excellent job what a beautiful casting that is the pattern on the front looks like a bird in flight. Like you say they don't make em like that anymore they had real style back then in the day. I love the ford transits in the background in the 90s my band had a long wheel base 6 cylinder version we bought it from a dry cleaning company the top half was white and the bottom half was green. It was like a small truck and took all our equipment in the back with room for two in the front. It was ok around town but on the open freeway it started to spit cogs at 90 kph but it always got us to the gig and back home again. One day we were up in a country town when the head gasket blew. Luckily it blew on the outside of the head so we had compression blowing out on the side of the motor and not water leaking into the oil it made a chuf chuf sound when we would excelerate. It had those big pull back doors on each side so we would ride around with them open when it was a warm day. So we pulled up at some traffic lights in this town the lights went green and we started to chuf chuf off. This bloke was standing at the lights and looked a bit startled by the noise so I yelled out :IT RUNS ON STEAM" you should have seen the look on his face lol.Stay safe mate catch ya on the next one.👍

      🤣🤣 glad you liked it , the last time I had a transit I worked with a mate on a construction site and we broke down on a major roundabout so I managed to bump it the kerb on the roundabout its self and get it of the road contacted a fellow worker to pick us up and our tools ,with the intention of getting a tow home after work .
      But after work went back no van after a bit of ringing around it turns out the police had removed it and wanted £300 to get it back , so haven't got a clue weather or not its still rusting away in a yard somewhere. 🤔😄😄
      Stay safe my friend

    You reminded me back in the early 70s and living in west London on bank holidays we would have a trip to the coast in those days to get to Margate or Mar-git we would have to leave early as the wasn’t the fast roads yet and you have to travel through south London ,so leaving around 6 in the morning my grandad was a postie so use to early starts which later I followed in his foot steps, halfway down we would pull into a lay by boot open egg and bacon sandwiches and coffee my mum would of been up at 4 to make them,so if you saw a lotus cortina in white on a road in Kent around that time it was us having breakfast 😂,then my dad would drive the last part to Margate ,as for lorries I always liked the AEC ergonomic cab or the scammel cab with wrap around windows ,nice work mate ,just found the video today ,all the best. Be safe Mark 👍🏻😊

      Thanks Mark I remember those days well, when a car journey was an adventure like you stopped in a layby flask of tea and sandwiches.

    Grand job again, Martin. A lesson learned - if I get round to doing one of these, I'll not bother taking the cab floor out! Those mid-50s Dinky castings were terrific - much better than quite a lot of new stuff in my view, with great detail. You have really brought the front of that cab to life! Great story, too, about the older cars: I had the I-Spy Cars book and actually managed to tick them all off - including the Lagonda Rapide of which only 55 were actually made!

      About a dozen Fodens down the road, I just want to say a big thank you mate for introducing me to these things. I just love them....they must be up there as maybe the most satisfying Dinkys to restore. Love the size, the weight, the detail and the smoothess when they roll. Just fabulous things as code 3s or full restorations. They can be expensive as wrecks, but they are very well worth the effort and expense. Just beautiful things to have. Thanks again mate for showing me the way....Mike

    Top job Martin, You saying Old cars, I can see 60 on the old 'speedo' coming up and have worked on a few 60's/70s cars in My time, so easy to maintain, however, someone told Me today His 'Electronic' steering malfunctioned at a crossroads and the steering ignored His commands, this is a Mercedes!, I didn't know such a steering existed!, No give Me a properly maintained 60's car and it will be reliable from A to B albeit at a slower pace, and with no regard for personal safety!, My first Boss used to tell Me tales of delivering the 'new' trucks minus the cab, wearing goggles and plenty of warm clothing, I'm sure Martin, You know a few!, take care, Stewart.

    Funny how that Vermillion kept changing between red and orange; it looked like the perfect shade of red when you were painting the grille.
    I don't know if you have many young viewers but I wonder if today's kids would appreciate a simple, yet beautiful, toy like this? Where do you put the batteries? What does it do? I may be completely wrong; I hope I am.
    I've really been looking forward to this one, ever since I spotted it on your bench, and it certainly didn't disappoint. I'd love to see more of this era of trucks, if you can get your hands on them.👌👍😁

    I prefer the industrial vehicles over the cars as they are more honest in design. Everything is there for a reason and practicality. The design embellishments on the trucks "faces" were probably to distinguish them from other makes. The Dinky toys seem to have a more robust appearance than the Corgis - they seem also to be of a slightly larger scale.

    • @martindaredare
      @martindaredare  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree the industrial vehicles are superb and have a lot of potential. And definitely more robust then some corgi toys.

      The larger super toys like this one has 20mm tryes.
      Witch ones have you got because there are differences in sizes. 15 17 or 20 mm

    Can imagine 007 coming to inside that pipe and quipping to his rodent companion, "Someone smells like a tart's handkerchief! ~sniff~ Afraid it's me... Sorry, old boy..."
    Just consider it a 'Restoration-Plus'.
