  • This episode briefly examines the Springfield Model 1863, and I do mean briefly because it's basically an extension to the episodes on the Springfield Model 1861 and Special Model 1861.
Photos of the early ramrod with brass cap are from George D. Moller's excellent book American Military Shoulder Arms volume III: Flintlock Alterations and Muzzleloading Percussion Shoulder Arms, 1840-1865 (p. 326) and are used for illustrative purposes.

I just finished this series, great job! It’s great to see someone else who appreciates the poor little shooter grade muskets. I always try to buy guns that met the elephant rather than sitting in an armory through the whole war.

Great video as usual McNally! I don’t mind the shorter length on this episode at all.

I really enjoy you work and admire your collection. I would be interested in more content tracking the afterlife of the model 1863 into the cartridge era , especially the transitional patterns like the Needham, Snow Miller, and Allin conversions.

This is 100% something I would love to pursue. Unfortunately as the old saying goes, I am made of meat and not dollar bills.
