    Oh and btw that part of archers fork you said was a beast, lmao, yah I went down that, went to Jackson run, turned back an camped at a site near a creak, think it was the one you were at and yah, that beast was pretty easy going down but dang it became a beast going back up lol.
    I had that forest all to myself first two an a half days, and I got to stay at that campground bout a half mile down the road from the scenic Riverview trailhead last night, had the campground all to myself, right on the Ohio River, county commissioner Bob White, whom I met on the trail going out gave me a ride to it, saw it was closed and said go ahead and camp here, if ranger comes by, just tell him I said it was ok, and he gave me 8 pounds of the chicken of the woods mushrooms he had harvested off the trail, OMG that was such an amazing weekend, I got trail fever now, I'm going nuts wanting to get out on a trail again.

    I lived in Marietta for 4 years back in the late 90's and visited the Wayne often. Brings back great memories of me and my dog Duke...'ol Duke was a character.

    Dude that 900 foot descent you made at the end was my first ascent coming in on Halloween this year, that is the hill I told you about in another comment, I made it during a rainstorm, it was beating down rain all the way up, about halfway it started roaring 50 mile per hour wind gusts, literally had to hunker down multiple times bracing myself with my trekking poles so I didn't get knocked off and go rolling down the hill, and you ain't kidding it's a steep hill lol.
    Anyways I got to the top finally, went just a bit till it dipped down into a nice open wooded area close to that view of the river, still pouring down rain, I'm excited cause I made it up, safe and not dead, I raised my trekking poles up, fists in the air and hollared, wooohooo made it, top of the world, the very second that sentence ended, gust of wind comes up the hill sonding like a freight train, I hear a horrible cracking sound as only about 20 to 30 feet straight in front of me a tree at least 60 or more feet tall breaks about ten feet from the base, the lower half hits the ground and about half way up the falling tree it cracks again and folds like a tent pole and goes down , shattering all. Over that hillside, my dumbarse just standing there wide eyes, fists still in the air, I literally said out loud, whoa that's not scary, lmao , lowered my arms and out loud again, couldn't help myself, looked around an said, OMG that's amazing😁😁😁, my first ever backpack adventure, three days and nights, and that was right out the gate all that madness happened, wouldn't trade that experience for anything.
    That was Soo dangerous and I was all alone, was it stupid, probably, but that was my experience, all mine, it was fortunate actually, that fueled my new taste for adventure and I want more😁😁😁😁😁

    These are my home trails even though I'm in Columbus. I normally start from the Cemetery on Archers fork that way it always loops back. From there you can hit them all. Thanks for the vid.

    I like it when you add a couple of bloopers at the end! The Porcupine Mountains, MI was an ancient volcanic area. The SHT is only a short distence away. The Wayne National Forest is on my list. I have family in Ohio and it would make a good excuse to visit and do some backpacking. I also like the water tablet idea for winter. Happy Holidays! Bob & Cathy

    Great video once again! Ive done the archers fork loop a couple of times by itself and id say it is a top 2 bp trail in ohio. The terrain is entertaining throughout. Not sure how far your drive is to get there but it is worth checking out . Just kinda short for someone as experienced as yourself.

    Went out to Wayne two years ago and couldn't find anything. Time to go back as I've learned a lot about finding resources online and through the Forest Service.
    Heard you mention the Superior Trail and that is on my radar for next year or the next. Travelling 1100 miles with four dogs will be interesting but from what I've seen it's well worth the effort.

    Frozen, could you do a detailed video on the phone app you guys were using? i.e. finding the trail on the internet and loading it onto the phone. I think you were using airplane mode. Will the app still track your location? I'm very new to all of this. Keep up the great videos. Thanks, Brian

      I personally don't use it but the people I hike with love it. The app in the video is called Gaia GPS it's a paid app for $20 it doesn't need data it tracks via GPS good app does use a decent bit of battery though. View Ranger is free and also pretty good.

Wow it's cold for an overnight! and uh/ the sign says closed to ORV bikes and horse but Foot TRavel Welcome.. wouldn't that mean you guys are ok year round? ... that trekking pole option to widen the tarp around 25min is great, i can see applying a similar technique to other set ups. always great hiking with you. the oil wells are interesting to see way out there

    I know this video is 9 months old and this is like my 3rd time seeing it but I never bothered to actually compliment you on the video if you feel like going back in Ohio again let me know I've been trying to do the entire Buckeye Trail in small segments but not by car I've been doing it all by mountain biking which is even worse I've already done a small section from Cleveland Ohio to Findley State Park just to the sign before the campground which is just over 90 Miles by bike not by car and I did that with a 50 something pound plus backpack on I did manage to get there and halfway home before my right knee gave out soo actualities I did approximately 166.3 miles according to my GPS all in two days

    Welcome to beautiful Ohio! .... With your tracking apps, do you use a lot of data? Also what is the battery box you use for your cameras?

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's an anker battery charger th-cam.com/video/bNFt9la3Ncc/w-d-xo.html
      The tracking apps don't have to run on data (most anyway) they use GPS which is separate. You can turn off the data to your smart phone and the app will still work.

    • @FrozensAdventures

      The road walk wouldn't be that crazy though, only a couple miles IIRC. You should i it!

    • @WoodsTrekkinAdventures
      @WoodsTrekkinAdventures 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Outdoor Adventures
      There is another loop I've been looking at in the area too. The road walk would only be 1.5 miles. It's taking the NCT from SR260 to the Archers Fork loop and then to the Jackson Run trail. North on the Ohio View to the northern trailhead and road walk back to the car. I do not know the mileage but it would be shorter than your loop. Good for a quick overnight jaunt. Many possibilities in this a area. The Greenwood trail is nice too!

    Great trail. Do you find hiking in the winter to be more or less difficult?

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Way more difficult. You have to carry more gear, more food, more clothes. Fire is pretty important. And you always have to deal with condensation on your sleeping stuff. Knee issues from boots is still a problem for me. But it also has it's perks. It's more quiet sometimes more scenic, and you won't find a lot of people on the trail. So it's a pretty good tradeoff. The people that hike in the winter are the people that really enjoy being out there.
